Wifi greyed out on iphone 4s with ios 7

I wonder if a reflow actually works... Is there a online reflow service?

I had this same issue and found the answer online very quickly.

1. Put the iPhone in "Airplane Mode"

2. Reboot your Wi-Fi router

3. Turn off the "Airplane Mode"

All of your other Wi-Fi spots that your phone has already connected to will be remembered, and will connect automatically when within range.

I did a reflow n it works. Believe me it's the hardware n the IOS 6 & 7 are just the catalyse to make the hardware to died faster. It's not the cause.

I dont know if it is permanent or not (I would doubt it), but I have been working for about 2 days since I heated mine up. I have a 4s 16g, I bought one year ago. Guys, I'm having the same problem with the WIfi after the ios7 upgrade... bluetooth it's ok, just the terrible wifi grey button...

Thats actually kind of the point. The product they sold was defective and an update with their software pushed it over the edge. There was no way for me to know as a consumer that it was defective and from what I have read if I didnt update the software the phone would still be fine. There was no warning that there would be any possibility of a hardware failure if I updated, if there was I wouldn't have updated. No worries though. An Android phone is on the way to use and the iPhone can sit in the drawer for testing purposes only. Makes me really glad I never bought the Mac system.

and me too! Big apple fan, but this is testing my patience. IOS7 worked fine for a few weeks and then I noticed the WIFI kept dropping the signal. after toggling the wifi on and off over a few days, its now stuck in permanent grey and will not work. I now have a dumb phone - great! 😟

I tried the hair dryer suggestion and it worked until the phone cooled

if I reset the nework settings I get the greyed out wifi button

if i then put it in the fridge I get the green button back but it then indefinately looks for networks and can't find them

there's something wierd gong on with all the strange suggestions for fixes; someone technical person must have a good idea what's gone on with the 4s phones and the update?????

I had my wifi grayed out for almost 2 weeks, tried every suggestions i could find on the net but nothing worked but then i read here there's a lot of successful stories about hairdryer method so i decided to give it another chance and surprisingly it worked!! 😀 many thanks for everyone

Just got an email from my service provider stating that this is a known problem by Apple and they are working on a fix. Not sure whether this a software one or a hardware one. I'm in the UK and my iPhone 4S is 18 months old. Let's hope they sort this quickly.

You're kidding? Will they make an official statement on it? Or was it just a high volume of calls about the wifi?

at least somebody is acknowledging there is an issue!

Just need to keep asking questions and hopefully Apple will release a statement!

Hey just like to add my two cents

Got this problem today after my daughter was using the phone

She was playing one of those high graphics game

When I took it back it was really hot which was normal

Then about an hour after I tried using the phone and no wifi

I tried the hair dryer method and it works (only the hair dryer)

This method is used in electronics all the time which means its a hardware problem

And it's the heat causing it in the first place because we weren't using wifi

When it happened

I also had slow wifi for some time now but this fix seems to have sort out that problem also

vinpat - I'm in the same boat, went to O2 they said it's software, Apple say it's hardware and you're out of warranty!

there's been a few people on saying it's basically a conflict or compatibility problem between the new OS and 4s phones that they weren't aware of!

so in my simple logic it's a hardware problem brought on by the software update

for me that's Apple's responsibility as they caused it by the update?
