Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

On itunes 11.1, can you delete podcast episodes? All old episodes appear in the list, and right click/delete is not an option.

In iTunes 11.1, all podcasts episodes appear in the list.

I cannot delete any from the list - if I right click and choose delete, the episode is still in the list and shows it can be downloaded.

How do you delete an episode of a podcast in iTunes 11.1

iTunes-OTHER, Windows 7

Apparently you can't remove any podcast episodes from the List view (unless you delete the podcast entirely, or unsubscribe from it). The iTunes designers, for reasons that escape me, no longer want us to do that; basically the List view seems to be permanently on "Show All Available Episodes" mode. All we can do is hope Apple considers this a bug and undoes it in a future update.

My advice: forget about the List view in iTunes's Podcasts pane. Instead use the "My Stations" or "My Podcasts" pane. They're not as good as List view was 48 hours ago, but they're better than the List view today.

With 11.1.3 on Windows Vista, I can somewhat manage the zombie podcasts. As long as a newer unread podcast episode exists, then I can delete episodes with a cloud next to them in Podcasts / List view and they haven't come back. If you don't have a newer unread one, however, they always come back, and sometimes the top episodes with the cloud icon are ones you haven't heard, and you have to click on their cloud icon to get them. I use control-shift-delete to get rid of cloud zombies; I don't know if that makes a difference versus the delete menu or delete button.

I also try to intercept them during download, but that just stops the problem for that synchronization (and it's annoying). You definitely do NOT want to click the cloud icon to the right of the podcast title in List view unless you want every episode; I believe that this is where there used to be an icon to get all unread podcasts.

But I also submitted feedback to Apple in the hopes that this issue will go away.

It's not clear that this is a Vista issue only, but I'm on Vista as well, and when the issue first occured with 11.1, I quickly reverted to 11.0.5.5, and I'm still on it, I keep watching this post thread carefully before considering changing to any new version. What I'm reading here is not the "fixed" that was claimed earlier. There are still way too many "..You definitely do NOT want to click the cloud.." and "...I can somewhat manage the zombie podcasts.." for my liking. I just like the way I am able to manage my podcasts today. It should not be so difficult to perform the simple operation of deleting podcasts you are done with.

It would be nice if the Apple designers read this forum and saw that people are having issues. This is not the case of operator error, but major design snafu. They have now released 3 new versions without fixing the problem. I'm ready to turn off "check for new version", and check back manually in 5-6 months. In the past they have added some nice features, so I would consider upgrading, but it should not be so painful.

Thank You to those reporting on this thread, I rely on you excellent comments.

In Podcast list view, highlight the podcast and then right click. You must scroll way down to find the delete function.

What I've discovered is that you must also delete the podcast from your iPhone (el al) too. Otherwise, when you sync, your iPhone will put the podcasts back into iTunes.

This is madding and maybe there is some solution, but for those looking to get the files out of iTunes, this is your only choice.

Agreed 100% The lack of functionality and obvious inbreeding of ideas going on at Apple is depressing. They no longer care how their customers are actually using their products or whether they are functional for the product at large. Apple developers just seem toi be sitting around agreeing with each other in their closed little circles and patting themselves on their backs rather than going out into the real world (or listening to it) and seeing how their products continue to get worse for their customers.

I am replying to you because yours is the latest entry. I'm experiencing total frustration in iTunes 12.0.1 due to the inability of being able to delete podcasts on my desktop iMac. I spoke to a higher level tech supervisor on several occasions, who called me back a couple of times in attempting to solve the problem. He wasn't able to delete them either. It doesn't matter how I mark them (played or not), deleting, dragging to the trash, shutting down, restarting - they always come back - and without any visual change in the titles other than categories: One Week, One Month, Three Months, etc. I hate this! I like keeping a "clean house," and resent having to deal with all the unnecessary clutter. I long for the good old days when dragging to the trash or pressing the delete key actually worked. C'mon Apple! Give us back our decision making capabilities!
