Don qube 7 and Markrr08...

I have same issue as both of you with attempting to do tethering with my iPhone 5 and Mac BookPro after I upgrade iPhone to IOS7...

Trust me don't go into Apple Store to attempt solution with a Genie.... Ouch - Crap... After being told "politely" that it should not have worked in the first place...in the manner both of you and my self have done.... The first Genie had me reload the Mac Book Pro 10.7.5 that was originially loaded.... Because the iPhone icon had vanished from the Network pane in System Preferrence where you can select the use of Wi-Fi or USB or Firewire etc..

Well I'm not going into what happened next as it is too painful to relive the step by step blow out of several days + hours in the store reloading stuff on my Mac Book Pro... Not to mention useless time spent with Apple Care for iPhone over the phone for the original issue of lossing the abilility to use "iPhone 5" to make phone calls via tethering .... You see some of us who get on planes, cars, ship, or trains etc and cross international borders where you are challenged with higher cell phone rates than on another side of the international border... We could use Tethering phone calls as another solution (won't go any further on that one) ... So I'm on way home across a border and bingo now can tether iPhone for calls now that I'm sucked into IOS7 .... Not too mention one of the Genies suggested upgrading from 10.7.5 to 10.8.5 on my Mac Book Pro ... as I said the loss of business + hours to repair something that wasn't broken is tooooo Painful to get in to are this moment .... Actually gonna call the Apple Store and get a email address from them that I can send copy to this interesting user community agony...with suspect upgrade to IOS7 with Tethering and Mac Book Pro (in my case and seems to be very same or similar in this community thread)

Thanks gang...!!!

I'm "Happy" to say that the Apple Team dug in and "Got It Right"

1/ Solution to my problem stated above of not being able to tether via USB with my iPhone 5 / IOS7 & MacBook Pro 10.8.5 and make phone calls via iPhone 5 & MacBook Pro was solved without using USB cable... But to use AirPlane Mode(because I didn't want use local cell provider, and turn on iPhone Wi Fi... Simple but works

2/ All issues with backup have been addressed and SOLVED....

All solutions provided by the Apple Store - Pentagon City - Also reassured me not to give up on the Apple Team - - Great Work...

Hi folks.
I finally got my tethering working. I'm not using MacOS so it was never anything to do with the host computer. It was regardless of how I connected or who connected via my USB or Wifi hotspot. It was always the phone.

I checked my cellular config in settings and removed all the APN settings for cellular data and hotspot. I then restarted the phone. I then added the settings back in, confirming they were what matched with my service provider. I then restarted the phone and that's it. Tethering works perfectly for USB, Wifi Hotspot and Blutooth

I'm done, I'm outta here. Happy now...

I have been having hotspot issues since I upgraded to iOS 7. I own a iPhone 5 that originally came with iOS6.. In iOS6 it was reliable however every so often it would act up.. Compared to the frustration that I have with iOS7, iOS6 was hugely reliable... Time after time with iOS7 my hotspot stops and it loses connection.. I have to unplug and replug in order to re-establish connection after only a few minutes.. This NEVER was an issue in iOS6... Apple will always say to reboot the device or restore your device, well if they are reading this Hey Apple, Ive restored my Iphone at least 4 times and now running IOS 7.0.6 and it still is an issue.. Its not our phones that are the issue, its something in your OS, possibly source code that is causing devices to lose their connections to hotspot. What changed from iOS6 to iOS7???? What is what you need to investigate.. I use a direct connection from phone to desktop via lightning cable... PLEASE fix this issue with iOS 7.1 otherwise my next device will be an android phone.. I pay for tethering yet its frustrating for me cause I have to reset my device by unplugging and replugging every 5 minutes and cant work...

Also, the TRUST COMPUTER popup is very annoying... I keep saying TRUST yet it keeps coming back.. Please give the user the ability to disable this permanently...

I was unsuccessful using the KEXT Utility and the older KEXT file that everyone else is using. I tried several times. It never worked to fix my USB Thether.

I'm on iOS7, iPhone 5S, originally Mac OSX 10.6.8, but then upgraded to Mavericks - problem happened on both OSes for me.

My Successful Steps:

1. Unplugged iPhone & deleted iPhone USB Network connection from Mac network connection

2. Went to iPhone - Settings - > General - Reset -> Reset Network Settings and rebooted phone

3. Downloaded full iTunes 11.1.5 installer and Pacificst free tool

4. Opened iTunes DMG installer with Pacifist tool (much safer feeling then KEXT Utility from Russia).

5. Drill down into the DMG with Pacifist through "Contents of Itunes" - > "Contents of manual" - > "Contents of MobileDevice.pkg" - > "System" - > "Library" - > "Extensions"

6. Open finder and press Command + Shift + G and enter path of "/System/Library/Extensions".

7. Click and Drag the AppleUsbEthernetHost.kext file from step 5 on top of the Finder window shown in the step above

8. It will prompt you to enter your admin password to overwrite the files. Do that.

9. Reboot your Mac

10. Connect your iPhone again

11. Activate mobile hotspot.

Viola for me after waiting since Oct 2013 to get it working right.

I updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 7 but now its not tethering using USB connection. I am using MAC OS X Lion 10.7.5 and iTunes 11.1. Tethering using Wi-Fi is fine.
