bluetooth keyboard not working when prompted for wifi splash screen io7

I just upgraded to IO7 on my ipad and I use the apple bluetooth keyboard. However, when the WiFi splash screen appear to login using say Cisco's login the keyboard does not work. Meaning it does not accept keystrokes. Because the keyboard is paired there is no way to show the normal onscreen keyboard unless you unpair.

My work around has been to dismiss the splash screen and open up safari then try to hit a website which then produces the splash screen within the browser. Then I'm able to use the keyboard again. Anyone had the same issue and is there a work around as this is highly annoying.

After upgrading my iPad to 7.0.3 and testing if this still is an issue, which it is, I have decided to describe the steps on how to work around this issue. Assuming that you have your wireless keyboard already paired here are the steps to get connected to a wifi hotspot that requires a web page login.

1. Go into your wifi setting and select the wifi access point you want to connect to.

2. Wait a couple of seconds for the wifi login banner to appear.

3. Click in the top right the cancel button

4. At the bottom of the screen it will ask you what you'd like to do, select "Use without internet"

5. Switch to Safari and select any webpage you want

6. This will bring up the login banner again

7. Now the bluetooth keyboard will be allowed to use to enter login information.

Again, I really hope Apple fixes this as I don't like performing 7 steps to get onto wifi as it's just supposed to work.....

I suspect that some people that have posted their issue is "fixed" were not having the same type of bluetooth keyboard issue that the original poster described.

It sounds like I'm having the same problem as the original poster. We have a Cisco wireless network as well and when I try to connect our iOS 7 device to our guest network that has a logon splash page, we are unable to type anything into the username or password fields.

With iOS 6.x we didn't have any issues.

So far this problem has occured on every iOS 7 device, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad 4, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5S, etc. I've tested with a Logitech Keyboard Case, Logitech K810, and Apple Bluetooth keyboard.

The keyboards are all working everywhere else, except the wireless splash screen. I can go to Chrome or Safar browsers and type just fine there. On the Cisco wireless splash page, I can't intpu anything in the username or password prompt, but the media keys still work, I can see the volume go up and down, adjust the brightness, so the keyboard is definitely working.

I called pple support and it seems they have not heard of this problem, though they are investigating this for me. I also contacted our vendor that implimented our Cisco network solution at my site. They also say they've not heard of anyone having this issue.

So this sounds like a combination of iOS 7 and the Cisco wireless splash page not liking each other. Though I'm baffled what Cisco could have done that would prevent Bluetooth keyboards from using their splash page and why it started to be an issue only in iOS 7.

That's the case where the keyboard only stops working when a splash screen is shown. In the case where it failed with me is Cisco as well. But I think the issue is generic when showing the splash screen causes the behavior. I'm glad to hear you were able to log this with Apple as my work around that I posted works, but is hard way of just connecting to wi-fi.

I too had the same problem. no matter how hard I tried my Belkin Keyboard would not connect to my iPad. it would attempt to connect but the pairing would always be unsuccessful. i tried everything, re-booted my ipad, turned my ipad on and off, turned bluetooth on and off, etc. NOTHING worked. I read all these articles blaming Apple and the iOS7 upgrades and Belkin but eventually I found the below instructions online that sorted everything and now it works great.

here instruction how to paired with your ipad

1. Go to the Home screen on your iPad and tap on “Settings > General > Bluetooth.”

2. Turn Bluetooth to “On.”

3. Turn on the keyboard and press and hold the “pair” key.

4. The Status LED will flash blue on the keyboard and the keyboard will show up under “Devices” on the

tablet. Select “Belkin Bluetooth Keyboard.”

5. A code will appear on the iPad screen. Enter this code followed by the “Enter” key using the keyboard.

6. When pairing is complete, the iPad will notify you that the pairing was successful. The keyboard will then be

paired to your iPad.

7. If after 60 seconds pairing fails, you will have to repeat the steps above. You can view the status from the

screen of the iPad.

8. You can now use the keyboard to type onto your iPad.

This is definitely a problem with the Cisco splash screen, which appears to be an app and not a web page. My Apple WiFi keyboard works just fine before trying to connect and afterwards; but the Cisco app just will not accept type-in. The iPad knows the keyboard is there because it doesn't bring up the "glass keyboard". The simplest way I have found to get around this is to power off the keyboard (*not* un-pair in Settings). Type in the username and password using the glass keyboard, and then power the keyboard back on after connecting with Cisco. Better than Un-pair/pair, but still a pain.

I have had the same problem at multiple hotels. When connecting to their WIFI their connection screen comes up, usually asking for some input such as room number and last name. I agree, it is a pain. On my Logitec keyboard, there is a function that allows you to pull up the "glass" keyboard by pressing fn+5. This alleviates the need for turning off and on the BT keyboard as I did in the past. Other than that, I have not found a solution to this problem.
