T-Mobile Model A1533 (GSM) iPhone 5S is it unlocked? Will work with AT&T?

I wanted a non-subsidized phone to use on AT&T so I ordered the iPhone 5s from T-mobile with no contract. Howveer unlike ordering the 5c it doesn't call it sim-free. It does state When you travel internationally, you can use a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5s from a local GSM carrier. Which makes me think it has to be unlocked and I could use my AT&T sim in it as it has all the supported bands. Has anyone tried this yet?

I stand corrected. They are guilty of not providing enough information. Yes, the menu tree to purchasing each phone leads to a locked, contracts device. In order to protect its fourth carrier. Apple deliberately left out the fact that the unlocked TMobile version will be compatible with both domestic GSM carriers and carriers from abroad.

Agree that there will be an "official" unlocked, non carrier labeled version, but because Apple never succumbs to carrier branding in the first place, I find it all the more confusing. In the end, they are trying to protect their carriers by steering initial iPhone allocation to those customers with domestic contracts or will be signing new contracts! regardless of whether the hardware is actually the same or not.

Been this way with every release. And, you can't blame Apple for initially protecting their carrier partners, after all, Apple doesn't own any networks & is totally dependent on the carriers to support the phone. If you ran T-Mobile, given the investment you just made, you wouldn't be too happy to see the phone labeled as unlocked, rather than T-Mobile.

Thanks, Type_11. Good to know.

Wjosten- understood, but Apple, as a mnaufacturer, has the responsibility to publish what their products are capocapable of doing. Yes, they don't need to call out the fact that the unlocked TMobile version works for ATT, but I feel that they were being dishonest by specifically stating that it will work with foreign carriers when they know full well that domestic GSM carriers are also compatible.

If you get AT&T to unlock it. Unlike T-Mobile, all AT&T iPhones are carrier locked. However, AT&T has a policy of unlocking full priced iPhones. Whether they are doing so for the new models, I don't know. You'll have to call & ask.

Actually, I'm from Brazil and I'm asking a friend to buy one for me there, in USA. I'm worried about he buy one from other than T-mobile and it doesn't work with my sim card. It's almost sure that T-mobile will work here, but I don't know about the others. Beyound that, call and ask is a little hard to me.
