iTunes 11.1 problem: no sound when watching movies!

Hi there

When I try to watch video on my Thunderbolt display (27 inch) connected to my MBP Retina, everything is fine....untill I go full-screen!!! Then I don't have sound anymore, only video!

Can anyone help me out on this, or do I have to wait for iTunes 11.2???

Thanks all out there!

Sven

PS I could perfectly watch videos with sound on my Thunderbolt display with the previous iTunes.

I also have this issue, with Macbook Pro and 27" Thunderbolt Display.

Here's what I did as a workround, a little different to the others suggested:

1. Play your video fullscreen, yeh we have no audio. Pause it.

2. Swipe using your touchpad to another desktop.

3. Open System Preferences and select "Sound".

4. Change the speakers to "Internal Speakers".

5. Swipe back and hit play. Bingo we have sound.

6. Swipe back and forth again changing the speakers back to "Display Audio".

Takes a few seconds, suppose it will have to do until Apple fix it.

Updated to iTunes 11.1.2 and Mavericks. The problem is worse now. Before I was able to fix it by coming out of full screen, stopping the movie, and going back to full screen. Now, no matter what I do, the audio is always choppy in full screen. Now if I play the movie in Quicktime the audio is also choppy at any screen size. Before updating the audio worked fine in Quicktime. What the ****. It just went from bad to worse. My setup is audio out through usb audio interface. If I play audio throught the internal speaker it is not choppy.

I have a similar issue and I've stubbled across a temporary fix.

Issue:

This issue started when I was flipping back and forth from full-screen video to iTunes on the desktop.

When selecting a video to play full-screen the audio will start but stop once the full-screen video loads. The video plays back fine but if I pause the video selecting play does not restart it.

Video and audio play back fine at actual size on the desktop.

Temporary Fix:

When video is loaded and playing at full-screen, I select the next video button. The next video plays back fine and when I select previous video (the one I actually intend to watch) it also plays back with both audio and visual. Play and Pause also work as expected.

Hardware:

- MacBook Pro, 13 Inch, Mid 2009

- LED Cinema Display, 24 Inch, Late 2008

Software:

- OS 10.8.5

- iTunes 11.1.2

I still have this problem myself - my audio devices are all USB (24" Apple Cinema Display included) and I find that if I want to play any iTunes content now in full screen, I have to locate the media in Finder then play with Quicktime X Player. I DO NOT wish to upgrade to Mavericks as it will only beak something in some of my many 3rd Party Apps (not all installed through the Mac App Store).

This is totally unacceptable - PLEASE FIX APPLE!

Well I had similar issue. When playing a movie within a screen as a window, the audio was fine, when going to fullscreen the audio would wobble and stutter.

I soon realised my pro audio card, a Focusrite Pro 24 was at 44.1khz, thus it was not reading the audio correctly.

Maybe in fullscreen the audio rate is increased ?

Anyhow, I changed my output to 48khz and the audio corrected.

An alternative is just to use the inbuilt sound output as this seems to adjust correctly.

I realise this wasn't everybodies issue here, but this is the thread that came up on google for me, so will probably help somebody.

So basically if you are using an external soundcard, be it in a firewire box, USB orr built into a monitor, check in its software that you are running at least at 48khz.
