iTunes 11.1 problem: no sound when watching movies!

Updating to 10.8.5

Quick 5 step fix;

1. right click on video in itunes

2. select show in finder

3. right click movie again in finder

4. select open with

5. select either VLC or Quicktime

*works perfectly in fullscreen even with m4v files...

My latest fix, with iTunes 11.2.2 (latest update did not fix the bug) on a MacBook Pro and watching videos fullscreen on a 27" Cinema Display.

In Preferences > Sound

switch from "Display Audio" (USB) to "LED Cinema Display" (DisplayPort)

If it happens again, switch back and forth.

Seems to be working, but I wish Apple spent a few seconds on this bug that has been reported for over two years, now!

The "pause/start a few times" method just freezes the video in my case. Would have been easier.

I had the same issue. For the longest time I could not figure it out and I uninstalled iTunes and reinstall iTunes many different versions of iTunes goes all through error codes and wouldn't let me play videos. I had a Mac Mini running on OS X 10.8.3 I updated the Mac Mini to OS X 10.8.5 Along with other various update such as Java. The descriptions for the updates said compatibility and stability upgrade so I went for it. Currently I'm using OS X 10.8.5 & iTunes version 11.2.2 and The video finally plays in full screen with audio no work around necessary. I have the audio problem and I run OS X 10.8.5 like you do, but iTunes 10.4 (18).

Every time I switch to full screen, the audio goes silent. The only way to get it to work is choosing a different audio output (external sound card) and switch back to the original one, EVERY TIME after switching to full screen. I have tried so many things, still no fix 😟

Is your Java up to date? Have you tried reinstalling your version of itunes?

THEY FIXED IT, with iTunes 12.0.1.

Finally, after what feels like years!

The interface changes in iTunes 12 don't make me happy at all, BUT the sound problem with fullscreen video has finally been fixed with iTunes 12, at least for me!
