You can fiddle with the background. You can fiddle with the contrast, boldness, size of the fonts in Settings/General/Accessability. But that's it.

You can also pester Apple on their Feedback link (which this is not). Maybe if enough people do so and/or cease to purchase the product, a change occurs. After all, I don't think either Cook nor Ive have big enuf brass ballz to cram this down people's throat like Jobs used to do.

I agree. Just because the opposition are selling large numbers of devices on operating systems with crude graphic design does not make crude graphic design a good idea. With iOS6 Apple had the world's best user interface, with depth, visual clarity and sophistication. Now with iOS7 we have crude cartoonish icons with no depth, extremely poor visual clarity and a naive appearance that you would expect from a child. Anyone who has Photoshop experience will tell you that the iOS6 appearance was a high level graphic design with reflection, form, background shading and a heirachy of colours working together to achieve an apparent simplicity that concealed the considerable effort which must have gone into it. iOS7 on the other hand has none of these features.

There are other poor features. The sea sick feeling you get from having to watch the pointless parallax effect and the decision to burden the iOS to the point where even a new iPad can no longer run the interface in a smooth fashion.

This is Apple's poorest effort, since beacme a fan in 1990. I resent the sight of it every time I use the iPad. Fortunately I only upgraded my iPad. My old iPhone now looks fabulous by comparison. Now Apple's tablet is as ugly as everyone else's, I might as well have a look at their product in future. Something I never thought that I would do.It seems that Apple have prevented us from downgrading. But I agree that downgrading would be the best solution. iOS 7 is as ugly as sin.

Although I agree with the assessment that the general icons are simplistic and somewhat childish looking (I think the targetted demographinc might be pre-teen girlswhen looking at some of them). But, I'm hoping that that reason we got "simpler" icons was to prevent the added features in IOS 7 from taking too much memory in the smaller memory devices (8G and 16G iPhones). The IOS 6 icons were really nice, but the icon files were larger due to the higher resolution and color content.

As a point, Apple does need to worry about the significantly larger customer base of the Android based phones. Most phone users operate in a herd based mentality. They watch the TV ads and see that you can touch your Universe 8 phonse to each other and transfer videos. Or, they see that you can record a concert on a roof-top and have it displayed on a big-screen billboard (really, does anybdy do this?). But, this type of advertising does sell phones. As do the cheap looking bright colored phone bodies (or cases).

If Apple doesn't sell phones or computers, they will cease to exist.

I totally agree that iOS7 is UGLY. Gone is the beautiful 3D look of iOS5 (I skipped right from 5 to 7), the depth and colors. Now we have flat, childish looking icons and amateurish, inconsistent design that reminds me of some kid's free AOL web page from the late '90s. Honestly, it's horrible. Functionally I think it's fine but the look, ugh. So disappointing. The fonts are way too thin and in many cases almost unreadable for me. The keyboard looks different in almost every app!

Seriously Apple. Please fire your design team. BIG step backwards.

Yep, I agree it is so ugly. If only they had made it consistently ugly, it would perhaps be tolerable. But it seems like every app design team was allowed to pick a different keyboard, or a different font or icon concept.

I abandoned Microsoft products because it became apparent that there was no coordinated design and software strategy. Apple seem to now be making the same mistake.

Silvergc, you say....

Can't really agree here... I know a LOT of people that would buy an iPhone except they find it "too expensive" so they go to Samsung...

Sadly if they see the new ios7 i m not sure theyd still be interested in the iphone.

I know ( myself included) 6 ppl that have iphones/ipads.. All updated EXCEPT me...and NONE like the look....for those that will say "they should have checked first etc," they just assumed it would be a regular update like all the others they have done since owning their Apple products and did not expect this....and their thoughts of purchasing other Apple products has now come to an end.. Cant say i blame them... Been running Apple products since early 90's and must say, the road Apple is going on... Very sad.... Goodbye iTunes 10 search and coverflow, iMac built in superdrive, and now visual apeal that once made Apple the envy of all.....EVEN OS9 AND BELOW LOOKS BETTER THAN IOS7

I feel betrayed. I have been an avid supporter of Apple and have a stack of Apple products but having 'upgraded' my iPad2 and iPhone 4s (previously great products running iOS6) I am left with devices that are ugly, laggy and, in the case of the iPhone, virtually unusable.

For the first time in a long time I am ready to look at other products and OS's. I don't want to but Apple has lost my trust. I am ready to put a hammer to my phone. Thanks for nothing Apple.

My sentiments exactly, fatb0y. I tried expressing that in a post which apple removed claiming some weak excuse about being "non-technical". So, technically speaking, they are still unable to take criticism. If there was some 'them' or 'skin' support in iOS7 then at least it could be configured to be less visually repulsive. It wouldn't improve the performance issues on earlier devices but might make the user experience less depressing.

Technical enough for you, apple?
