iPhone 5 with iOS 7 randomly shuts off

Are any of you aware of iOS 7 randomly shutting down iPhones? Ever since I upgraded 2 day ago it has shut down at least 3 times. The battery was at about 18%, 20%, and 36% when it shut down. I don't believe it’s a bug with the battery percentage because it started back up as soon as hit the power button. Also, it is not due to overheating or anything else wrong with the environment. Nothing in the environment has changed except that I updated to iOS 7. Let me know if this occurs to anyone else and if there are any solutions pending?

I just wanted to also say my iPhone 5 is having the same problems even with the newest update ios7.0.2

My phone randomly shuts off and won't come back on till after it sets for a few minuets then you have to hard start it to make it come on. Then some times the battery goes from say 48% then down to 17% then turns it's self off again all in like 4-5 secs and if you plug it up to a charger it will come back on and read 48% charged like nothing happened ?? What in the world is apple doing I'm about to move to android.

I'm having this issue as well, if anyone could help or give suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

i have an iphone 5, bought it the weekend it first came out. I did not have any problems. Then I download ios 7, I noticed my battery drained a lot faster so i played with the settings, turned everything that seemed to be a problem, off. in the past month, my phone would say its 15% all the way down to 1% in a matter of seconds, even though i wasnt doing anything. I'd plug it in, and it jumps back to 15 or 16%, so the display is tricking me.

Then just today, i would have about 20% and it would randomly shut off. I'd try to turn it on but it would say it needed to be plugged in. Maybe after a minute or two of trying to turn it on, it would restart and say its 19%, but then it turned off again. Later tonight, same thing happened again, but the phone was at 8% when it shut off.

i'm using the latest ios. a lot of my settings are off (background app refresh, automatic downloads, push notifications, the motion thing, as well as most location services).

Has anyone gone to the genius bar about it? what have they said/done.

I've been having this problem in addition to a SIM card recognition problem. Apple gave me a brand new iPhone 5 today. 8 hours later and it has just restart itself like it was doing on my previous iPhone 5. Glad they fixed the problem... Not.

For information purposes, my phone was at 100% AND was plugged into a power source when it decided to restart itself.

Well add me to the is as well. After upgrading to IOS 7 both our iPhone 5s started randomly shutting off, 49%, 39%, 17%,9%.

You have to wait a few minutes and sometimes it will reboot without plugging it in. Sometimes it will stay on other times it will just shutdown again. Oh when it does boot back up the percentage of power will have increased by a few percent.

We never had this problem before and the battery lasts very well on iOS 7 and I always maintain my battery.

Very frustrating cause I can't trust my phone.

Apple please address this issue.

All morning I' e been restarting the phone and it boots up with 7% and shuts down. Plugged it in and let it go up by a couple percent and unplugged it and it would shutdown.

So as suggest at the beginning of the post I plugged it in a remove app background refresh, unplugged my phone and so far so good. It's now at 3%!

This may be a solution, plus I removed the automatic updates for the apps but my wife had her's off before anyway and she is having the same issue. We'll try it on her phone as well.

I have the same problem.

I have today submitted the following feedback/bug report to Apple support;

My iPhone 5 is is (just like so many other) randomly shutting down.

see: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5338609?start=0&tstart=0

this has been happening when the phone is almost fully charged (NOT over heated), when just using iTunes, but more annoying in the middle of a phone conversation.

Can you please do one of the following:

1) let me know what I can do myself to avoid having this issue

2) in lack of a recommendation for 1) confirm it is a known problem and a fix is expected to be included in the next release

3) confirm you have (again) been made aware of the problem, but that you at present haven't found out what causes the problem

I suggest that you do the same!

Okay, get this. With the app background refresh off my phone didn't shutdown at 40% like it has been doing this last week and I'll see what happens when it gets below 20% because it does it there as well. Today I come home and the battery is at 38%. I walk away from it for 2 min and come back and it says 11%. I reboot the phone and now it is at 36%.

Very weird. I'm convinced it's iOS 7.

I Too am still having this problem. I was one of the "lucky ones", who stood on line the first day the 5S was released. I have tried all the suggestions listed I this thread. After a few days the same problem exist, I then started to think about all of the suggestions and became I sensed. I bought the new iPhone for all the new features, why should I have to turn off options to get the phone to work the way my old phone did prior to updating to iOS 7. Apple come on fix the big that you clearly know is causing problems for MANY OF YOUR CUSTOMERS. very poor service in my opinion. So instead of addressing the problem effectively, you now schedule a conference to show case your new devices. Here's a thought, fix what you just released, that is clearly broken; then move forward with new products. Purchasing what ever you plan on announcing just doesn't make sense, until this issue is effectively addressed.

So I decided to just go to the Apple Store and get my iPhone replaced completely since this problem kept persisting. My iPhone 5 with the new update and everything works fine now which leads me to believe this problem has nothing to do with the iOS update but the battery itself. Others in this thread have said they fixed it by replacing their batteries too. So if you can't afford to replace your phone or have run out of options, I strongly suggest buying a new battery online and replacing it yourself with a screwdriver. Good luck!
