Apple TV software upgrade

Well, found a micro USB and hooked it between atv and MacBook/ iTunes. It reset it to factory, I input the passwords, and it's working fine.

I am using an android cable as well.

My problem is, I cannot find my way around iTunes, I have no idea how to get to this stage:

I used the micro usb cable to restore the software version 5.3

after it restored i entered my wifi settings

and performed the software update with no problems.

It seems this is happening to people who update over ethernet.

or a bogus ipsw.

Though Apple was no help at all, I was able to get a MICRO USB to USB cable at Walmart ($10). Best Buy said they had one for $5, but Walmart was much easier to get to tonight. Hooked the ATV to my iMac with iTunes on. iTunes immediately recognized the ATV and asked if I wanted to restore it. I did, it took about 15 minutes to do it's thing which included the new problem child update. Afterwards it was exactly the same as a brand new ATV .. EVERYTHING had to be redone. Very frustrating due to the time wasted, hassle of getting the cable, having to pay for a cable I wouldn't have otherwise needed, having to re-invent the wheel regarding all of our settings in the ATV, but it's finally working properly. That said, Apple owes me 3 hours of my life back.

After failed upgrade I connected Apple TV 2 via USB to computer and iTunes as the image on TV said.. Started Apple TV restare and after download got "Device not eligible for requested build." Unplugged and tried again various time. No luck. When hooked back up to TV the image in now just a slow blink apple icon.

I don't see anyone else getting this message on the support. Can I get back to older version? Any other suggestions?

I tried to update my Apple TV 3rd generation to 6.0 after it "updated", the front light start to blinking and it told me connect to iTunes and did so. After I plugged it in, I clicked on "Restore Apple TV..." which told me it would download and install the new version update. I went for it, but then it got stucked at "Preparing Apple TV for restore..." and after a couple of minutes I got this "Unknown error (1611)", which didn't explain anything, and I can't use my ATV now. Can anybody help me please?

Hi, one question, did you updated iTunes to the last one version ? (11.1), maybe this is the problem

Yes, I have 11.1 on both computers, on macbook and othe with windows 7. Same problem, get erro 1611. Apple TV cannot be restore.

Same, same, same. Flashing white light AFTER the download was complete (ostensibly during install). Now I must go out and "buy" a mini USB. I think I'll send the bill to Apple assuming it even works to restore. Then there is my "time" to venture forth, buy the cable, do the restore, re-enter all the codes/passwords for Netflix, HBO Go, etc.

I'm thinking that should come to, oh, $300 at my current rates. I'm sure Apple will step right up. Not.

Let's all just see how much "integrity" Apple really has. The clock is ticking.

No way, i get stucked on preparing Apple TV for restore, afdter a minute or 2, get the message, with error 1611

Had the same problem as many, got hung up in the update process and getting the music logo. Non of the reset hints worked, so I connected to regular PC, ran through the ITunes installation and now it works.

Interesting enough, I have two ATV and the second one did not hung up through upgrade.

So try immediately to run through ITunes after connecting to PC (only USB/mini USB, no energy cable) and it should work.

Same problem here on apple TV 3 (1080p). Forced to do a restore via itunes. Will post results.
