Apple TV software upgrade

This happened to me so I upraded via the usb cable which worked fine. Now after the upgrade all my movies keep crashing after about 30 seconds - flippin frustrating.

mlassi, start again. It took me three tries to get the recovery done.

I got the same error (1611) over and over again, I really don't know what else to do, I already upgraded Itunes in both OS Mac and windows and keep giving same error it is fustrating.

Please HELP!

Have you connected your ATV before launching ITunes?

I guess that you should try and see, if it finds your ATV and it should give you the option to reinstall the latest software.

And only connect your USB cable, no power cord. That's what I did and it worked

Yes. I tríed to plug after open iTunes and before. In my case, i need to plug the power cord as Well, because itunes won't recognize the ATV not plugged. The thing is in the middle if recovery i get aún iTunes error code (1611) and recovery is aborted.

Its annoying this - fortuately Ive more than one ATV in my house so will be using one of those instead until this has been fixed. ATW3 has to have the power cord in after its been connected to itunes.

I did the upgrade over ethernet and got the connect to itunes message afterwards. Like I mentioned earlier -the upgrade worked but now every movies crashes and it then it goes back to the main menu

Interesting, I can connect to PC without power cord and get recognized.

Seems the nearest apple store would be the solution.

What I don't understand, why some devices work, I have also two and the second one updated without any problems.

What makes them different?

Same result for me on PPC iMac running iTunes 10.6.3

I have same issue but when trying to connect 2nd gen ATV to latest version of itunes on windows 7 computer it does not recognize the ATV in itunes. Everything says I don't need power cord on 2nd gen ATV. When I open my computer it shows up as an iPhoto device and does not appear in itunes. Boy is apple becoming annoying. Is anyone else not able to connect to itunes to do a restore in windows 7?

Connect your ATV to power then by USB to PC , it should then recognise it for a restore

When you connect to your PC, after a while, windows will recognize it and asks you, how to open it. Hit the x and turn that off, than start iTunes, if not already on and see, if it recognizes the device as atv.

I don't have more ideas, maybe someone else has found a way?

Here are some steps and notes to try:

MANY people are reporting they've had to try multiple micro USB cables to find one that works. I got one that worked from a neighbor.

For clarification, this needs to be a "micro" USB, not a "mini" USB

Some people have also reported they've had to try the Restore process more than once.

1. Unplug Apple TV and move it to your computer running latest version of iTunes.

2. Quit iTunes if running.

3. Plug micro USB cable to the back of the Apple TV.

4. Power the Apple TV using the AC cable.

5. iTunes shoud either launch itself (a good indication that the micro USB cable you're using is compatible), or launch iTunes.

6. Click Restore. Software will download and install (big file).

How you explain it is right , worked for me as it recognised the ATV straight away when plugged in.

With reference to micro USB any recent Samsung would have one in the box for connecting to a PC for various updates , ringtones etc, that's what everyone needs, I found 2 in my house from old phones

Thank you it looks like plugging in the power cord has helped iTunes recognize AppleTV. It is doing the restore and recovery mode as we speak. Thanks again. I wish Apple was as good as this forum is. Tks all.
