ios7 home sharing issue ( Video App)

After updated to iOS 7 and itunes 11.1, there are several issue I encounter with home sharing that I would like to share.

My problem is only in the video app. Music app works, no problem

My House have 3 media libraries (music + movie + TV), my wife, my daughter and myself. All three libraries work flawlessly with our 2 mac mini, 3 macbook, 1 imac, 3 ipad, 2 iphone, 2 apple tv and 1 ipod. After itunes 11.1 updated, home sharing doesn't seem to work. No problem, if anyone have problem with home sharing, simply do the following

1. turn off home sharing in itunes

2. turn off library sharing under itunes preferences

3. deauthorize your computer under "store" tab.

4. quite itunes

5. restart itunes

6. authorize your computer

7. turn on library sharing

8. turn on home sharing

After all these tinkering on the computer. ALL my apple tv and my 1st generation ipad (iOS 5.1.1) work perfectly. remote app works (ALL iOS), video app works (iOS 5.1.1). All my iOS 7 devices work..................... kinda,

After another hour of tikering, here is what I learn. Only 2 out of 3 libraries show up on video app (iOS 7). Libraries show up randomly without any order. If I shout down the app and reopen, I might get different libraries. No matter what, video app only display 2 libraries.

There is a "show all videos" option under setting -> videos which able you to watch videos purchased from itunes store. If I disable it, I only get 1 library show up on my shared. Rarely, I got 2 libraries show up in the video app, but mostly just 1 library.

From my point of view, there are definitely bugs crawling everywhere under the app. If anyone encounter the same problem, or anyone resolve this situation, please share your knowledge.

Just one conclusion, the app LOOKS GREAT! Execution............. not so great.

BTW Good luck on deleting videos from the app. The video app will quite unexpectly everytime you delete a video.

First I want to thank wilfred and TruTexGuy. I've been following these posts and while I'm not having any luck getting shared vidoes on my iPad 4 I want to share why I visited the Genuis Bar.

First some background: Viewing TV Shows using the Video App and Home Sharing on the ipad has had its problems since the OS 6 upgrade. Immediately TV Shows would not sort and it would inset photo covers of movies along with your TV Shows. There were many suggestions to cure this and once implemeted there were occasions when it would display correctly. Those of us who have large video collects suffered in silence as our numbers are to small. With the release of OS 7 the problems of displaying our TV Shows were solved and we were vindicated, or so I/we thought.

Immediately I found that a TV Show watched on the iPad waw not updating iTunes as having been watched. Also TV Show descriptions were not displaying on the iPad as well as Movie Plot Summary's. With the OS 7.0.2 update Home Sharing will not enable and while wilfred has found one solution, it does not work for all of us. Like TruTexGuy I'm using a iPad 4 and my library is stored on an external Thrunderbolt 6TB drive connected to my Powerbook Pro 2.6 GHz i7. So I packed up all Powerbook, hard drive and iPad and when down to the store.

Long story short, they told me that many of the tech in back were having the same problem, but that there were few complaints and they did not think Apple would do much to fix it as it was most likely not high on their list. Great, thanks guy! I have done many searches about my descriptions not showing up and it was not until I did the 7.02 update that I experience the Home Sharing Enabling problem and found these posts. I'm curious if your having any issues with descriptions and plot summaries?

This also is effecting access from iPhones 5S as well, but not Apple TV.

I experienced the same issue , after upgrade ios7, iPhone 5/ iPad2 unable to access library (home share only) on my iMac. Two additional points, I noticed library loading took a long time and when it did load, all content was not accessible. Received the following error message " You do not have permission to access this resource"

I reset iMac and iOS devices, and exited and logged in for home sharing with no resolution

I took wilfred steps and basically deauthorized my iMac and now I can access the content. I seems if you get the permission message, reauthorize computer will do the trick.

I think I have solved my issues. Since moving my library to my MBP I have had no home sharing issues at all. All my devices see the shared library at all times.

When I was having the issues I was on a desktop running windows 8.1 and I think that was the problem at least in my case.

Guess my desktop became even more useless now since it can't even act as the library. At least it makes cool whirring sounds and possibly helps out with the airflow in the room.

My issue is that although the library shows up in the video app when I select it, the timer keeps spinning for ever. After multiple tries eventually the library loads on my iphone. This whole process can take up to 30 minutes before i have access to the homeshare library on my imac. I have other problems with iTunes 11.1 and I think this update is totally screwed.

I'm having the same problem as Manie88. I have 4 home shares. I'm lucky to see 1 or 2 on the iPhone or iPad, both on iOS 7. It varies which ones I see depending on what I've reset although it appears to be random.

Once I select one, the vast majority of the time I just get the spinning broken circle of death. I've waited 15 minutes. When I cancel and retry then it always says, "Unable to start Home Sharing." For those extremely rare times I get to view the list of content only once in countless times has it shown thumbnails. Usually I only get generic icons.

Since iOS 7 was installed, I have yet to be able to watch any media from any home share. iOS 7 has totally borked video home sharing.

I've reset every device multiple times, logged out of home sharing, turned it on and off, quit and relaunched iLooneyTunes and the Videos app, and followed the troubleshooting steps Apple and this thread offers. No joy yet the Music app works fine.

It's really sad that the other video media apps like Netflix and EyeTV work vastly better than Apple's own Videos app.

I have the same issue, iTunes running on windows 7 pc, iphone4 and iphone 5 on iOs7 and apple tv running lastest software.

All was working with homesharing till the lastest iTunes update to 11.1.1, no none of my devices will connect, thay all see the library as an option but will not connect and get continual error messages.

I have reset all devices still won't connect.

signed out of homeshare on all devices then back in still none will connect,

reset my wireless router, no effect

deleted iTunes then reinstalled it no change.

Absolutly pointless having all these devices if the simplest of functions apple can't make work properly, just glad i didnt upgrade to a 5S and waste more money on a new device that wouldn't work properly either

Bear in mind that it can take ages for a shared library to show up. I just waited 12-15 minutes for my music library (30k songs, maybe 100 playlists) to appear on my iPad but it eventually did.

Unfortunately even after that wait, it doesn't have an accurate count of songs or most album artwork. And it took close to a minute to respond when I selected an artist. Another minute after selecting a track - the animation started showing next to the track name but no audio started playing until about 30 seconds later.

Now playing button took about 10 seconds to respond. Turning off shuffle took another 10-15 seconds. But now, about twenty minutes after I connected my iPad to Home Sharing under ios7 , I do have music playing, with the track info. on the now playing screen. The progress meter just jumped from 2:28 to 2:54 but now it seems to be working properly, too.

Hopefully this will all be faster on subsequent connections! As it is, it is practically unusable.

I just installed iOS 7.0.3 and the Home Sharing bug is still present. This tells you a lot about how much Apple really cares about their customers.

I've given them official feedback … again … (because that works so well).

Worse, I have video in iLooneyTunes that can be viewed there or on the Apple TV, but not in iOS 7. It can't even be downloaded to the iPad. iLooneyTunes allows me to sync but the sync never occurs and there are no error messages.

The iPad is a media consumption device and I can't use it at all for viewing video.
