Lost all my pictures thanks to the ios 7 update

I have an iphone 4s, and I'm pretty sure all my pictures are now completely gone.
I plugged my iphone into my computer, and itunes had to update. (Ok, that took forever, but whatever).
So I let my iphone update to ios 7 while I went to sleep last night (dumb move on my part, should've just not updated at all).

Anyway, so I wake up, and itunes told me it couldn't finish updating due to some error, so I click ok. Then it somehow DID update, so now it's stuck on the 'connected to itunes' screen. I restored it numerous times, since it's just doing nothing even though itunes says it's all good to go.
After I restored it at least 10 times, I decided to just select "Set Up as New Iphone".

Well, that got me to the homescreen, I fiddled with some apps and then noticed that ALL my pictures are GONE! Cool, right????? (no).
So, I googled how to get them back. Ok, apple suggests that I do a backup on itunes and that should restore my pictures. Ok, if it'll get my pictures back, i'll do it. ( I ALWAYS plug my iphone into my computer and sync it with itunes, and it says it's been backed up periodically).
Anyway, NOPE. Nothing. No pictures, and now my iphone is ONCE AGAIN stuck on the 'connected to itunes' screen, and no matter what I do, NOTHING HAPPENS.

All I want are my pictures back, so can someone PLEASE tell me if there's any hope of getting them back?????

They'd have tobe in the computer in iPhoto to download them, or in the Cloud if you're using that. You always need to download your photos into iPhoto from your camera. Then you can edit, adjust them and email them.

When you update your phone they'll take everything from iPhoto and put them into your phone. You can edit what you put into the phone by going to iTunes, go to Photos on the top banner, and just select the ones you want in the phone. The wording is odd and looks like it will remove them from iPhoto and put them into your phone. But they remain in iPhoto. Besides, they are always in your LIBRARY, even the ones you think you've deleted.

Does anyone know if there any advanced method to recover the Pictures? I did the backup just before the update to avoid that situation, but anyway the pictures are gone!

I found the folder that the backup is saved on windows7 - C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

But the files are all technical and the size from the whole folder seams too small (1,5 Gb) to contain all my 29 Gb of data (that used to exist), Any information would be greatly appreciated.

iOS backups are designed for restoring to an iOS device.

If the pictures were in the camera roll and the backup was restored to the device, they should still be in the camera roll.

Ideally, and the way the device is designed to be used, prior to any iOS update the user would copy all pictures from the device to the computer for safe-keeping. Those pictures could then be synced back to the device at a later time if needed/desired.

Hi for some reason my backup did not restore my photos. I had tried every app that was available to the old 4. whatever OS I had on their previously (I had given the ipad to my son so I ddnt really use it) and none would allow me to transfer the photos off even FTP, bluetooth, clouds etc. Finally I gave up bc very few APPS worked on the old OS and just upated the software crossing my fingers. Some of the APPs allowed only a few of the pix in one album that were all screen shots from some kid app to be seen but all of the actual phots were not discoverable from any APP or hardwire. Anyways ALL the pix were gne after the update.. anything I can do to restore everyhting back to what it was. I had over 4k pix on their and I guess I would have just emailed a few had I thought this would happen

Hey!

Ive recently undergone the same destressing process. Not fun is it? If you have backed up your iPhone once before then you might have a chance of getting your photos back:

1st Way:

Download itunes photo backup recovery software. (Expect to pay ££)

2nd Way:

First find the backup folders:

Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

Windows: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

Then you will be listed with your backups which are usually named randomly,.

(You will have to guess which is the one you want. Hopefully there wont be too many!)

(If you there is nothing, then the files are hidden. No worries. rightclick>properties>attributes>click on hidden)

Click on your folder and then you will be listed whith even more random file names. Sort them by file size. You photos will be whithin the 2000-50HB mark. Copy the files you want then paste them in a new file. Rename them to .jpg . And your done!

Anyway, hope this helped you.

I have been using a new iPhone4 (replacement phone) for 2 months. Yesterday I connected it to my laptop to copy over photos. iPhoto said only 1 photo of 500 was imported. So I went to iTunes to import, selected "import all" hoping it would pick up everything. I chose the option "Keep Photos on iPhone" since I wanted to share a few recent photos yet with friends. No luck with the transfer of photos. So then I asked it to sync. Still nothing transfered to the laptop. After I unplugged my phone I noticed the photo library on the iPhone had changed. All the pictures I had taken were simply gone, and photos from prior to 2 months ago were in their place. It had restored a previous backup rather than transfer the new photos. I hadn't clicked "delete" photos but I think it just did it as part of restore sync. Is there any possible way to recover the pictures now — after a restore, without any previous backup?

Try installing it, it may have backed up your pictures to iCloud

When you say you have the "connected to iTunes screen" do you mean the screen with a picture of the USB cable and the itunes logo? If so then that is not a screen to say it is connected to iTunes, it means you need to connect your iPhone to the computer because there is a problem.

I'd plug your phone in and try to restore it using a backup from a date before you updated to iOS 7. You may have caused a problem by selecting to set it up as a new device as iTunes sometimes deletes older backups when you do this. If you can't restore it to an older date in iTunes then try to retrieve photos from iCloud and again select a date from before you updated to iOS 7.

Thanks so much for this guy. What he said is very reasonable and useful.
