Thank you Nick! I had 6.8 gb stuck in my messages which was, of course, driving me crazy. When I first tried to use the iBackupBot I just kept getting messages saying I didn't have enough space on the phone then same happened when I tried the icloud/itunes backup method. So I unsynced all my music to free up a good chunk of space, did the backup and the icloud/itunes still didn't work because I didn't have enough room so I tried the iBackupBot and it did work that time. I've just put the music back on and it's all good. So I've recovered all of that space, and I have to say it's nice to see over 7 gb free on my phone 🙂 So thank you Nick for sharing that work around.

I totally agree with everyone that is dealing with this issue, it is definitely frustrating. However, the amount of space being used by saved messages for myself is much larger than most peoples... 13.5 GB... did I mention how frustrating this has been? I've read through pages of this discussion, tried numerous solutions that were mentioned but nothing has worked so far. I am contemplating restoring my phone completely but the number of contacts that I would have to re-add into my phone is a daunting task. Maybe an Android wouldn't be such a bad idea afterall...

Hey,

I tried to do that with icloud, like others although I had only selected mail and contacts to be saved onto icloud, with 4.3GB free, it still said I needed 9.6GB more space to be able to back up onto icloud... at that point I had literally deleted everything off of my phone (music, apps, podcasts, pictures, videos, etc). I've already decided to switch to Android, it's just a matter of a few days. Thanks though = )

Ok guys, so it may have been just a stroke of luck or I did it right.... kinda. I did use Nick's information and the only thing I did differently was used "file quit" when I was done instead of just hitting the X. The back up did work and the memory that was being taken was back... BUT I lost all my current messages as well, not just ones I deleted. Nick if you have any info on this let me know!
