I FINALLY FOUND A SOLUTION! After reading through all these fixes continually corrupting the backup and trying the spotlight search delete conversation method i gave up and ended up going through one picture at a time deleting them. Now i wish i didnt because I found a much better solution. If i tried to delete the conversation it wouldn't clear up any space, but if u go into the conversation and delete all from inside it clears up all that space!!:)

1. Click a conversation

2. Click and hold any message

3. PRESS MORE

4. Click DELETE ALL at the top left

5. All the pictures and data will be deleted from that convo!!!

6. Do this with each convo and space cleared!

No restore, no backups, no

Restarts!!!

Just wanted to let you know:

I tried turning off iCloud....turning off iMessage, and redoing the steps you provided and still no luck.

I think what I'm gonna end up doing is:

  1. Back Up my iPhone using iTunes.
  2. Make duplicate of that BackUp File using iBackUpBot
  3. Follow the procedure with iBackUpBot to delete all SMS attachments.
  4. Restone phone to Factory. (Or Delete enough applications to clear up at least 3.5gb) Since I can't restore the Back Up on my phone without doing this, due to lack of space.
  5. Restore the previous edited Back Up to iPhone.

I'll do this and see what my results are.

This is such a nightmare. Losing almost 5gb of space for some ghost data. Ugh!

I had 10.5GB of saved messages! Yikes!! Haha! I tried the restart process, probably 10 times and and hour and a half of my time, you described after several backups, 4.

I broke down and downloaded the ibackupbot. I followed your steps to a T. I was able to delete all the information you mentioned and somemore I found was useless, don't worry, it was from an app that I regularly delete info out of.

I was able to restore my phone from iTunes as I had 4.2GB of free space available. My phone has since been restored and restarted. Give me a minute and I'll see if it has worked...

Please hold...

GRAND NEWS!!!! I have no more saved message data!!! I'm down from 9.1GB used and 4.2GB available to 6.1GB used and 7.2GB available!!!

I'm disappointed I had to download a 3rd party program to remedy a simple problem that Apple should fix in an iOS update. Although, it did work and my phone seems to be running faster.

Thank you for your continued help and through write-up. I'm sure my wife's phone could benefit from the same treatment.

THANK YOU AGAIN, Kurty999!!!

I've done some research around this issue (as I had 9.6 GB of memory used on the messages app). You just have to have some patience. I didn't download any 3rd party app. I just went into my messages, deleted EVERY text I had. And then kept going back into settings->general->Usage. I'd let the usage load. Then exit out of settings and keep going back in. It's repetitive I know but it just takes your iphone awhile to register that all those messages have been deleted.

Just DELETE ALL of your messages (you'll have to do it one by one as I could not find a way to select all then delete all).

It'll just take some time for your iPhone to register that all of them are gone. I went from 9.6 GB being used to 217 MB in about 10 minutes.

Hope this helps!!!

It will unfortunately come back that is thing. You will have to rely on a 3rd party app to actually get rid if these saved messages. The corrupted file stills exists on your phone and since using backup bot I have actually seen the saved messages increased at a faster rate then before! I have two phones one for work and home. I still cannot understand how apple lets something like this continue to be a problem for many users. My personal phone is a android and the work phone an apple. So unfortunately I have to actually still deal with this *******-t-y product.

People this is taking up 19!!! Yes NINETEEN GIGABYTES of space on my phone!! Tried the ibackupbot crap and it didn't work!!! Obviously the restoring doesn't work. And for some reason won't work on my phone. And i went through 2 online chats with Apple customer service and they both disconnected from our conversations! So irritated with it!! Can't wait to upgrade so I can get an android!! DONE with apple!!!
