Phone Numbers for iMessage and FaceTime on iPad

I recently upgraded to IOS 7 on both my iPhone 5 and my iPad 3. Prior to the upgrade, I used my phone number for iMessand for for FaceTime on both devices. It was easier for me to switch between the two and easier for folks to get in touch with me by using just one number. Following the upgrade, I cannot use my phone number for iMessage or FaceTime on my iPad (I can still use it for the iPhone). How do I get my iPad back to the way it was -- using my phone nymber for iMessage and FaceTime? Thanks.

It's best to use an email address like gmail.com
