Can't Wifi Connect to iPhone 5 or iPad 2 with iOS 7 without USB Connection to Computer

I updated to iOS 7 last night o both my iPhone 5 and iPad 2. I'm running OS 10.8.5 on my MacBook Pro, and iTunes 11.1 I used to be able to sync by wifi without plugging in with a USB cable. I have all three devices on the same wifi network, and now the iPhone and iPad onlly show up in iTunes if they are plugged in.

I went to Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync and Sync Now only highlights when the devices are plugged in via USB. Then the devises will sync via wifi, who whats the point if they have to be plugged into the compter to do this.

How do I restore the ability to sync on iTunes over a wifi network withoug having to plug into the MacBook Pro?

I was having the same issue with my iPhone 5S not syncing via wifi but was able resolve the issue.

I Quit out of iTunes then restarted my iPhone. After completly rebooting my iPhone, I started iTunes up again. My iPhone appeared under devices via my wifi connection.

It might not work for everyone but if you haven't tried the above, it's worth a shot...

Didn't work for me. It's broken and Apple broke it. As an engineer I always say: If it isn't broken, don't change it. But Appel rather changes everything that works into something that is broken, and then doesn't fix what was broken in teh first place.

OSX is no longer th elean mean OS machine it used to be. It's become WIndows 95...

It looks like there are bugs in iOS 7 involving wifi syncing. I've spent about 2 months with AppleCare support trying to resolve wifi syncing issues with iOS 7 devices and iTunes with various macs on various networks, and it's just broken for some users.

As of Dec 21, 2013, I was informed that the engineers were out of troubleshooting options and they were investigating the problem as a bug.

The bug doesn't seem to affect everyone, but if you are affected, I'd suggest that you continue syncing over USB until a fix is issued in a future build of iOS/iTunes.

Hi! I just called Apple Support and they talked me through the solution.

First, double check in iTunes on your Mac that under Devices, there is no checkmark in the box by "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically".

Then go to your Device, go to Settings, then to General, Scroll down to Reset, and select Reset All Settings. Nothing will be erased. Once you have reset all of the settings, go back and connect to your wi-fi. You will have to put in the password for your wifi. Once you are on wifi, open up iTunes, and wait for iTunes to find your device. I was surprised how long that took. However, my device was found and now I can sync over the wifi. I hope that this helps.
