I called my mobile operator and they put me through to Apple support. They did a hard reset and setup the phone as a brand new phone and the vibrator still didn't work. They reckon I need to go to Apple store and pay £126 for a replacement phone that will come with 90 day warranty.
I still think its an OS bug because it was working right up until the OS update to iOS 7 and all that been proved with the conversation with Apple support that the iOS7 doesn't like my phones vibrator. They haven't actually proved the vibrator has malfunctioned. the tech support guy reckons that some times an OS upgrade brings up underlying hardward faults. I dont believe that, its like filling a diesel car with petrol and saying the car doesn't work because the original engine had a fault. Either the OS has a bug in which it cannot communicate with the device or its caused it to malfunction by over excerting it.
I have google iphone 4 vibrator parts and found a place selling the part for £5 now being appl even if they charged £30 I could understand and maybe willing to pay for part to be fixed.
Amasing how I cant official downgrade to iOS6 until recently to prove that it was and still is working.
Update:
Right like others I had checked the settings in options and tapping trick etc and did a clean installation as my previous post said. I wasn't prepared to pay the £126 to replace the phone. I went and ordered the vibrator motor and tools, which came to under £10 inc P&p.
Before I continue, I know that by opening the phone myself I loss my warranty blah but my warranty had expired and I've had this phone since Oct 2010. I opened the phone and replaced the motor only to find that it still didn't vibrate. So clearly a software issue unless I've received a faulty replacement. So I swapped the motor back with the original motor.
After putting the phone back together I was seriously thinking of thorwing it against the wall. As a last measure I thought of the following:
1. Go to Settings > Sounds
2. My "Vibrate on Ring" and "Vibrate on Silent" where turned on (which obviously wasn't working) I switched them both off.
3, Switch off your phone
4. Switch it back on
5. Switch the two settings back on.
6. Test the phone, Put it in "Silent mode" and back into "Normal Mode"
I tried the above and I nearly sh@t myself when the phone actually virbated.
So what has this proofed?
1. Clearly a software bug.
2. Doing a "Hard reset" clearly doesn't clear all settings unless iOS7 has faulty default settings,
I've just saved myself £116 (£10 for the initial test) hopefully this will save other people from paying unnecessary charges for something that isn't broken in the first place.
I would actually like someone to take legal action against Apple for not investigating this and clearly charging customers for their "faults".
