Vibrate not working at all with iOS7

I updated to iOS7 the day it came out and thought all was going fine but only now, I'm realizing that the vibrate feature hasn't worked once since.

Prevoiusly, I just thought that it doesn't vibrate when my phone is plugged in (when I'd receive text messages) but it just dawned on me that it hasn't vibrated at all since. When I switch from Normal mode to Silent mode, no vibration. When I go to settings and try out the different Vibrate modes, I feel nothing. My phone doesn't vibrate when I plug it into my laptop as well. I'm wondering something happened between when I upgraded to iOS7?

Is there any way to troubleshoot this problem?

I just reset my iPhone today (all content and settings) and restored it to a recent backup but still the same issue.

Do you think I should just take it to an Apple Specialist at the Apple Store?

p.s. the iPhone is less than a year old

Hi guys,

like I said, Apple isn't going to come onto here and offer a solution.

I went to the Apple Store and only real thing you can do is replace your Vibration Motor which cost me $40.

I wasn't in my 1 year Apple warranty nor did I have the Apple Care plan.

Hurry up and do this as quickly as possible. They won't care if you say it happened "right after the iOS7 update" like it did for mine. They'll deny it and say that it's not a software issue, it's a hardware issue and only warranty can cover that if you're in it.

Apple service was quite disappointing with this

I called my mobile operator and they put me through to Apple support. They did a hard reset and setup the phone as a brand new phone and the vibrator still didn't work. They reckon I need to go to Apple store and pay £126 for a replacement phone that will come with 90 day warranty.

I still think its an OS bug because it was working right up until the OS update to iOS 7 and all that been proved with the conversation with Apple support that the iOS7 doesn't like my phones vibrator. They haven't actually proved the vibrator has malfunctioned. the tech support guy reckons that some times an OS upgrade brings up underlying hardward faults. I dont believe that, its like filling a diesel car with petrol and saying the car doesn't work because the original engine had a fault. Either the OS has a bug in which it cannot communicate with the device or its caused it to malfunction by over excerting it.

I have google iphone 4 vibrator parts and found a place selling the part for £5 now being appl even if they charged £30 I could understand and maybe willing to pay for part to be fixed.

Amasing how I cant official downgrade to iOS6 until recently to prove that it was and still is working.

Update:
Right like others I had checked the settings in options and tapping trick etc and did a clean installation as my previous post said. I wasn't prepared to pay the £126 to replace the phone. I went and ordered the vibrator motor and tools, which came to under £10 inc P&p.

Before I continue, I know that by opening the phone myself I loss my warranty blah but my warranty had expired and I've had this phone since Oct 2010. I opened the phone and replaced the motor only to find that it still didn't vibrate. So clearly a software issue unless I've received a faulty replacement. So I swapped the motor back with the original motor.

After putting the phone back together I was seriously thinking of thorwing it against the wall. As a last measure I thought of the following:

1. Go to Settings > Sounds

2. My "Vibrate on Ring" and "Vibrate on Silent" where turned on (which obviously wasn't working) I switched them both off.

3, Switch off your phone

4. Switch it back on

5. Switch the two settings back on.

6. Test the phone, Put it in "Silent mode" and back into "Normal Mode"

I tried the above and I nearly sh@t myself when the phone actually virbated.

So what has this proofed?
1. Clearly a software bug.

2. Doing a "Hard reset" clearly doesn't clear all settings unless iOS7 has faulty default settings,

I've just saved myself £116 (£10 for the initial test) hopefully this will save other people from paying unnecessary charges for something that isn't broken in the first place.

I would actually like someone to take legal action against Apple for not investigating this and clearly charging customers for their "faults".

So, after you replace your vibration motor, is it working fine? with no doubt at all?

I sent my phone to the United States because i'm still on my one year warranty and i think all Apple is going to do is to change the vibration motor, so i would like to know if after you did that you didn't have more problems with your iphone?

Thank you.

Ok, this was an issue for me to. Upgrade made vibration stop working. Feel sorry for all those who were told it was a hard wear issue. Reset home bottom + power button didn't work for me, all settings were checked and do not disturb was not on. The only thing that worked was a reset all settings, going through the settings/general/reset. I know this is supposed to be the same thing as the home & power button reset, but the difference paid off for me. Mine is vibrating again

Absolutely bizarre but I found a solution to my problem! I was testing the vibrate from a landline and I finally figured out that when I went to the caller histoiry and looked at the number. I noticed that against the number, just this particular number, I had for some unknown reason the vibrate turned off! How random is that!?! So if you guys are getting vibrations for some numbers and not others, this could be the cause!

Merry Christmas al!

Hi
my issue was different. but it may help if I explain how I correct it.

after I have updated my iPhone 5 to IOS 7 I realized that my phone didn't vibrate in silent mode when it rings.(but I still have had vibration in sms or emails). it doesnt matter if I select setting>sounds>vibrate on ring on or off or else setting>sounds>vibrate on silent on or off.
so I decided to change the ringtone in case it could help then that was the time when I realized there is another vibration setting in setting>sounds>ringtone>vibration. So when I change Vibration setting to alert mode it starts to vibrate in incoming calls.

Just decided to get iOS7. Got it 2 hours ago, noticed the same problem. Fixed it. Settings > Notification Center. Scroll down to see a list of all application that send notifications. Click the ones you want to vibrate, turn on sounds. Not sure if your problem is with texts and calls as well but I mainly use Facebook and Skype. Works fine now.

I don't think Apple cares about the low ringtones or not being able to vibrate. I agree with everyone and have tried everything 3 times and nothing. I even checked the speakers and had the dock changed...nada. Apple is busy making money and they don't care about their old phones. Before this one I had a 3S and that one went bad too on their last major update. So I figured I'd try again with the 4s. Well, they seem to do it again. Someone told me its a firmware issue. I took it to the apple store and they could not help either. So, I'm changing my phone to an android.

I just wanted to add to the thread that I have the same problem. I bought my iPhone 5s on Saturday. On Sunday I got a note that ios 7.0.4 was available, so I updated it. After that I lost the vibration on my phone. Occasionally it would come back if I lightly tap or hit the back of the phone as others suggested, but that's not a viable solution. I've checked the toggle switch on the side of the phone is on. The Do Not Disturb feature is not turned on. I've gone into Settings > Sounds and checked that Vibrate on Ring and Vibrate on Silence are turned on. I've gone into Settings > Sounds > Ringtone and made sure that Vibration was turned on. I've turned off the phone and turned it back on. I've reset all settings. Occasionally vibration would come back, but it would disappear after vibrating once.

Fortunately my phone is only three days old, so I plan on taking it back to Best Buy to see if I can exchange it for a new one. This is my first iPhone and a few of my friends who have had iPhones for a long time told me that I should always wait until some of the bugs are worked out before I update any software. If this is a software issues.
