Vibrate not working at all with iOS7

I updated to iOS7 the day it came out and thought all was going fine but only now, I'm realizing that the vibrate feature hasn't worked once since.

Prevoiusly, I just thought that it doesn't vibrate when my phone is plugged in (when I'd receive text messages) but it just dawned on me that it hasn't vibrated at all since. When I switch from Normal mode to Silent mode, no vibration. When I go to settings and try out the different Vibrate modes, I feel nothing. My phone doesn't vibrate when I plug it into my laptop as well. I'm wondering something happened between when I upgraded to iOS7?

Is there any way to troubleshoot this problem?

I just reset my iPhone today (all content and settings) and restored it to a recent backup but still the same issue.

Do you think I should just take it to an Apple Specialist at the Apple Store?

on my new iphone 5c the problem started after i installed a tweak to disable parallax effect (without disabling the animations) i haven't updated the OS as it was already up to date, i fixed the problem by softly pressing in the upper left side of the display (the opposite side of the rear camera) while the phone is ringing and all the vibrations are set to ON , no whacks or what's ever , good luck guys 🙂

here's my conclusion: it's a hardware problem caused by a software bug

HI all. Need to write this here because something strange happened. I had this same problem with used 6 months old iphone 5c. Vibration worked sometimes and sometimes not. I installed ibrate app, and put it on constant vibrate. When I hit the phone on the bottom vibration started, but when I switched it off and on again I had to hit it to make it vibrate again. Phone was on constant vibrate on for about 10 minutes and same time I was reading this topic. Suddenly I heard vibration sound coming much louder and more powerful. Now my vibration works all the time. I think that vibrator was maybe stuck a bit and didn't get on full and it needed to get that conatant vibration for some time.

Hi!! I've noticed today the same problem when I was setting up my girlfriend's iphone 5s. I noticed vibration setting touch id and many other things, and I start wondering about mine. I looked up every sound setting and make sure that vibration was on at every time. I told her to call me and text me, and nothing happened. I've tried that slap on the back, reset, ibrate and many other things. But in this thread someone wrote a couple of instructions:

Go to Sounds

Turn Off vibration on ring and silent

Turn Off the phone and then back on

Go to Sounds

Turn On vibration on ring and silent

I must say that until now, the phone is on silent and it's vibrating when I get notifications. So I am wondering if it is a bug instead of a hardwear issue. My phone has been on a case since day one, now it's 4 months old and I've never hit it against anything or dropped it.

Hoped I've helped to clear some ideas.

iPhone 5s, 13 months old, no AppleCare

iOS 8.1

I too suffered the complete loss of vibration sometime in the last 24 hrs...

No updates applied or drop/water events of significance.

Double-checked all Sound settings and sub-settings... normal.

Toggled & rebooted variously, no luck.

Found this thread, read it all...

Listened for the faint clicking upon vibrate... AHA!

Whacked the back of the phone twice... no luck.

Downloaded iBrate app.

With vibrator on steady, resumed the beatings... YES! Working again!

I had to use more than a palm tap... more like knocking on a door with my knuckles.

When it vibrates now, there is a brief, loose, rattly noise at the end of each bzzt.

I'm suspecting the vibrator motor has vibrated loose...

I live 1500 km from my nearest Genius Bar; next I am near, I will go pay them $35 to repair.

This is my 16th Apple device and 3rd minor hardware issue... I've never paid for more warranty and don't mind opening a case or paying a reasonable repair fee on these (for me) rare occasions. 😐

Thanks for the tip. Score 1 in the Pure Hardware column.

I am also having the same issue. My phone is iPhone4.

Tried all the solutions provided in this post.

1. restarting after changing the vibrate settings.

2. tapping on the back, front etc..

3. checking the vibration settings in SOUND menu.

None worked.

phone vibrates fine, when a new WhatsApp msg come or even if I change any setting..

It only doesn't vibrate for incoming calls.

Hi iPhone users,

I have had the same problem with the no sound issue. I got the solution that will gain all sound back on any iPhone. It worked for me.

Here is what to do,

1. Go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility

2. Scroll down "Assistive Touch" click on it when you get the white dot click on it

3. Now you will have 4 icons click on the "Device"

4. You will then see "Volume Up" and "Volume Down" and also have little "Bell"

5. Make sure volume is up and the bell is not muted there you have a quick fix for sound

also you dont have to keep the assistive on, you can then turn it off. You will have all sounds incoming call.

Enjoy, hope it helps!

Yes.. so look back to page 7. Hew656 posted about removing the screen and checking the motor which creates the vibrate.

It is located at the top left of the phone next to the front facing camera. I removed my screen to see it had become clogged with some dust etc. Removing this made it work instantaneously. See link for video of motor location:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLtzOLuq-A8

If you can't remove your screen, try knocking that area of the screen to try and dislodge any debris. It's a long shot, but unless you can get your screen off, it is the only solution I can think of.

Hope that helps - It is bloody infuriating! Especially after exhausting a lot of the completely irrelevant iphone manual style posts from this blogs 'pond life'.
