iOS 7 wifi "unable to join the network"

I have an iPhone 5 that I upgraded to iOS 7 on 9/18/13. My phone and wifi connections worked fine until this morning 9/21.

Now when I have tried connecting to 2 different wifi networks, my phone is giving me the message "unable to join the network." I don't know why this is happening, has anyone else had this issue?

Wifi has worked the past few days since I completed the update to iOS 7. It has shown as connected a few times today, but no data will load when this happens. I am hesitant to restore the entire phone unless I am sure it will fix the issue.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

OK, the same day that my iPad 2 stopped connecting to my Wi-Fi at home, I was working on my laptop at home, and as soon as I shut down my laptop, the iPad connected to Wi-Fi again. So, maybe my issue had to do with some problem with my router, or too many devices connected at the same time, or maybe it had to do with iOS7 being fritzy.

I have 3 iOS devices with me visiting an in-law whose router is an early Linksys. I started to experience this problem after I connected a second iOS device to the network, and although the devices showed they were connected, they would not download any data. Then, when I tried to reconnect the devices in various ways they would not even connect to the network, until I rebooted the router. Once the router was rebooted, I could connect a device and download data, until I tried to connect a 2nd device, when the problem re-appeared. Finally I rebooted the router, and have only kept one device connected to it for several days with no problem on that device. Have not tried to connect a 2nd device since then.

Just fixed this today. It has been bugging me since I updated to IOS7. Worked with my wifi liberate in about 1 minute.

1. Change network to open.

2. Connect with your I device

3. Change network to WPA2, change password

4. Enter the new password on your device.

5. Done!

I have been able to connect with multiple devices, no problem; posting this from my laptop while my iphone is connected! Very easy fix to a very annoying problem.

Hi all, the one thing I have not seen a lot of here is the suggestion to reset the router.

I went through about 20 attempts with my ridiculously long password and all the tips and tricks about forgetting, resetting etc. Wasn't until I reset my router that it just connected without issue. Turn off, wait 5 sec, turn on ... or "power cycle" if you're in the biz 😝

Cheers,

Brad

I was away from home last week, staying with a relative whose router is an early Linksys. I could only get one of my iOS devices (iPhone, Pad and Pad Mini) to join at a time. As soon as I tried to join a second device, the router "locked out" all of them, and a reboot was necessary to get any of them to join. As long as I only tried to join one device, the connection stayed active for days. All other Windows devices logged on with no problems all week.

Once I got home, I had no problems with all of my iOS devices on my Linksys router, which is pretty old, but not as old as my relative's.

I love your enthusiasm for the router not being in anyway related to the issue.

Any idea why after trying every suggestion it just refused to connect and then it suddenly had no issues ONLY after the router was reset? Could be a once off but certainly worth a try if it's worked once.

I should have mentioned that at the same time I had 3 iphones (4s, 5, 5s) and 2 ipads (mini, gen2) connected without issues - just the new ipad Air that was having the unable to join problem.

Cheers again!

Undeniably the problem I describe is in no way router related unless you want to say certain routers are not always compatible with IOS 7 as some devices may fail to connect.

You however may have a different problem.

In my scenario if dozens of Iphones and Ipads connect to the same router now and my Iphone used to connect to same router but can't it just aint the router.
