5c screen glass seems loose?

I got the green 5c on launch day (UK) , however its only today i noticed that the glass on my screen seems slightly loose on the right hand side?

It doesn't seem to have affected the functionality of the phone, but if i press the right hand of the screen i can feel it moving up/down and it sort of clicks. I was debating taking it back to the apple store on my day off to ask them and maybe get a replacement, because its kind of annoying, plus I did pay nearly £470 for it..

I know the 5c is more cheaply made but I wasn't expecting to have this sort of problem 3 days into owning the device?

My replacement iPhone screen pops in the same place, left-middle-side. I am probably going to see if it will "settle" by itself for a few weeks. The glass, LCD, backlight, Touch Matrix grid is a once piece unit.

I still think the middle left and middle right sides are not re-enforced enough. Creating two small squares as opposed to one large rectangle would be a flatter surface for this screen to sit one.

Wow I am having the same issue with my iPhone 5c Blue as well. I have been speaking with Apple Care for 5 days now. I am asking for a replacement of a 5S because this seems to be an issue for many people. But according to Apple its an expected issue do to them using a plastic casing. They have said they have not seen an issues arise from this but if you Google it its all over the place. All over the internet. Gonna copy all these links and email the Apple Care person I've been speaking with. Now I have proof!!

That's interesting. So yeah, you can tell AppleCare that's there more than one iPhone 5c owner with this problem. My screen is loose in the bottom-left corner. It kind of click/creaks when I press on it. It's definitely doesn't "feel reassuringly solid in your hand." It feels poorly made, as if it's falling apart.

The good news is, Apple have agreed to replace my iPhone 5c (White, 32GB) with another one. I hope the second one doesn't have the same loose screen problem, but if it does, I'll give up on the 5c design and ask for a 5s instead.

My replacement 5c pops and it seems worse with a new Apple 5c black case. Since the case does not overlap the screen's edge there is nothing that stops it from misaligning. Both the 5c and Apple's own case hinder the problem. A Frenchman from across the street who is an avid Apple fan calls the 5c, c for cheap. He uses his 4s and to be honest I miss my 4s such I lost, too.

I can get my screen to stop popping by rubbing my hand across the screen but one should not have to do this. Styluses help too. You gotta think. Is this something Steve jobs would have wanted? Is this what customer's wants? I wanted a 5s and needed a new iPhone because my 4s was lost. But the Apple store was sold out and I needed a phone right away. I got a 5c along with one for each person in my family. It's ok. So far I am the only one in my unit who notices it. But Apple should do better. Was it field tested? If you type for more than 2-3 hours you will get a pop.

I'm so glad I'm not the only person with this issue!

I have a blue iPhone 5c and the screen randomly pops up on the left-hand edge, and sometimes makes a clicking sound when I lightly press the screen in the middle - basically, when I'm using it normally I can hear the "click" or "pop". As others on here have noted, this is basically the screen pushing back into the plastic casing.

I'm surprised no one else has come to the conclusion I have - this is related to heat. I had the exact same issue with my Nexus 7 tablet, when the device becomes hot internal parts expand slightly, and that seems to cause the screen to rise ever so slightly - which is why it pops back into place when you press on it.

Last night I had been using my 5c and it was hot, and the clicking was so bad that I could repeat the click ten times in a row. However, this morning - when the phone hadn't been used and was "cold" - the clicking is impossible to replicate.

I got my 5c from Carphone Warehouse and not Apple, but I'm tempted to return and ask for a full refund, and show them a print out of this very thread. This appears to be a design problem with the phone itself, I'm not sure it can be rectified. If your 5c isn't making this clicking noise, then it's probably because you got lucky and yours has more glue in the case, or something.

Very shoddy workmanship by Apple - didn't the iPhone 5 also have a "clicking" screen? These phones should be designed to cope with changes in temprature during use.

I'd say that is very likely indeed.

I think why people have missed this being the trigger (heat) is because you might leave you phone alone for an entire day and then it sudden has to do something which is quite power-intensive, and it heats up - but then it cools down again. You might pick up your 5c three hours later and "click" the screen goes in - but the reason it was raised in the first place is that heat build up from earlier. The screen won't pop back into place unless you press down on it.

I have to admit, at first I thought I was just being picky with this but the problem has gotten worse over the past few days - presumably the constant process of expansion and contraction is loosening the glue inside the phone?

I would put money on heat being the cause as I've just done a quick test - 15 minutes on Infinity Blade - and the clicking is back.

Whatever the reason, I'm unhappy with thev product and will be returning it for a full refund this week.

I have been dealing with Apple for 6 days now trying to get my phone taken care of. I personally asked for them to replace it with an iPhone 5s. Do to the fact I dont want to run into and issue again.Per a Senior Advisor( this is a possible issue do to the plastic casing!) The rep I have been working with set me up to go to Apple Store which is an hour and a half from where I live. Everything was set up for me to get my replacement. Management was aware of the circumstances and had agreed to do the exchange. The minute they found out my phone was bought from At&t and not Apple Store, they said the could not give the exchange. After this I have spoken with several Apple Reps. Just to be told I have to wait for the original person who set the expectation to be the one to fulfill it. So I sit here with a broken phone waiting for Friday to come and who knows how long it will take to get the replacement if they do it.

When Steve Jobs died so did Apple!

I too am having this problem with my white 5c which is just over 2 weeks old. It is incredibly frustrating and definitely affects my enjoyment of the phone. All the reviews say that the 5c is robust and creak free; if that is the case then why are all of our phones clicking and creaking like cheap plastic? I already have an appointment at the Genius Bar this weekend but I am doubtful about a replacement given that so many units seem to have the same fault. This really isn't good enough! Losing faith in Apple...

Nov 19, 2013 2:57 PM in response to cjl27

I took my phone back to the store I purchased it from and although I was initially given a replacement, I emailed the head office and obtain a full refund. In my eyes, this is a design fault. The internals heat up and this causes them to "rise" inside the plastic casing, causing the clicking sound when you tap the screen - it's basically the phone's internals pushing back against the casing.

Bought a the yellow 5C for my daughter and I am having the same problem described here with the clicking and loose screen glass moving on the bottom end of the phone. I am disappointed in Apple....everything had always been of great quality and workmanship until this. We got the phone on launch day so we are out of the 14-day window I hear people talking about. We'll be visiting the store soon to understand our options.

Don't worry about 14 days, Apple provide a one year warranty on all their products which covers poor workmanship so they should replace it for you. I've had mine for 3 weeks and am taking it in to ask for a replacement on Saturday. What concerns me is the amount of people having the same problem, which leads me to believe it is a design fault. I also have noticed that the screen is looser and more clicky when the handset is warm.
