iPhone 5s Power Button Loose/Rattling Noise

Today I had scheduled a Genius Bar appointment for my loose rattling power button. I can hear it rattle when I record video and move around, the video even records the sound and it interferes with the video. It is also bothersome, in general, to have a rattling noise on my phone. The "genius" had me unlock the phone (since I have a passcode/fingerprint I.D) and he took it to the back to take a look at it, came back and said there's nothing wrong and that it's the "vibrating motor." Yeah, sure. I place my finger on the power button and move my phone and it has 0 rattling, when I let go it rattles like a maraca. I then asked him if he could open it and try and fix it for me, and he told me that he had just opened it and everything checked out fine. Another lie, he gave me my phone back unlocked and into my settings. If he opened it it would have been turned off, and on again which would request my passcode which he doesn't have. My previous iPhone 3/4S/5 has never done this and I see it as a simple fix if they were to really open it. I have fully purchased a new iPhone every year for the past 3 years and when I encounter a problem I'm lied to and told there is nothing I can do about it. I'll be scheduling another appointment soon in hopes I get a different employee that will actually help me.

What I want to know is, is there a fix to this?
When I take videos it captures the rattling noises ruining the video.

I have the Apple leather case and a rattling iphone 5s and I can tell you that it doesn't help at all.

I didn't buy my phone directly from Apple (no Apple stores in my country) and when I tried to exchange or return the phone I was told every single iphone 5s has this rattling "feature" and they won't exchange or fix the phone and won't take it back. 699 euros for this, needless to say I feel I got scammed.

How you can suit apple? and for what? what bad they did to you? if you got a phone you did not like, you had 14 days to give it back, it is not sense at all what you are talking.

Iphone 5s it's great phone and millions of people don't mention this, every day mention this problem less then 5 persons and they make their comments, i have many friends have their iphone 5s and 5 and all rattle they did not know about it until i told them, and i read this here, i had 3gs same problem i kept it 4 years and never mentioned until i read here. just go with it, forward this problem, simply if you don't like it sell it or give it back and buy Nokia plastic yellow phone. im not saying this should be or should not be, i don't know, im not phone designer, but as apple selling all this phone same like this, and they say it is normal, which mean it is normal, then it is up to you if you like it or no.. complains never help. enjoy the phone, take pics videos dont rattle it like a champagne, buy case do something, better than complain and losing time by changing and not using your phone, other wise don't use it if you don't like the rattle thing.. it's a world wide thing, never matter what country you are coming from, as long as the factory is one in china.

I'm not sure who you spoke to but the rattling that I have experienced is not normal. . I have two coworkers with brand new 5s models that do not rattle at all. None of our 5, 4s, or 4 models rattled either.

Maybe your phone has a slight tick....my two new ones (and their replacements) flat out rattled. When I showed mine to my coworkers who have solid, new 5s models. It took them one shake of my phone and told me that they would return them.

Not a single Apple employee told me that it was "standard". This includes tech support and the genius bar employees. They offered to replace it right there...as did the Verizon where it was orignally purchased.

Yes, this defect is extremely prevalent but it is still a defect. Given that the iPhone 5 sleep button has a history of failing after a year, I think we are right to be concerned.

So if:

  1. Apple states that the power button is not supposed to be loose on a brand new phone and offers to replace it.
  2. iPhones have failed becase of faulty sleep buttons in the recent past.

Then we should treat this as a big deal and demand phones that don't rattle and/or move on to another phone.

But to simply say: "deal with it, it was designed that way" is patently false.

If I'm wrong, show me one Apple employee that has gone on record and said "Our newest flagship iPhone was designed to have a loose sleep button that rattles."

Then go change it one million times, and in the end you change one milllion one for iphone 6.

i'm not understand people who complain and crying here, why you don't go and give it back and buy your selves another company? who are we to say how iphone must be? there is offer, you like or you don't like.

no one force you to buy.

if you can not deal with it, trust me millions do. it's your opinion only.

People, don't blame your self cause you bought this phone, i know that this rattle thing bother, or i would not exist here, but all of us waited for iphone 5s release, and we all bought it and changed it many times, and the result still one, so we have no other choice, only to accept it and enjoy it or sell is as used phone.

Apple said this is normal thing, when i connected the apple care, they said it was made this way, i don't know why, but it is, and they will never change it because of this thing. so there is no other choice, argue, who is right and who is not, is non sense. just enjoy the phone as it is, trust me millions of people enjoying and no one care about this thing, my manager at work has iphone 5s and it rattle, and he said to me; so what let it be, i dont take video while i shake my iphone.. some does i dont say no.. but what to do.. this is iphone 5s module.. to turn all the world until find one which doesnt rattle it will be so late, cause there is 8 month and apple will release iphone 6, so enjoy it now and maybe later apple will fix it or i dont know.

simply stop believing everyone, do what your heart tells you to do.

when i wanted to buy a car, chevrolet cruise i read also about it, lots of people say how crap it is,, but if it is crap why people use it? people are negative and some are positive, just listen your opinion, don't care what others said, in the end it is just their opinions.

@lucifer

That is not the point here.
We are just saying that not ALL iPhones have that rattling noise problem, only some do and that makes all the difference.
In return, Apple is doing nothing to fix the problem (exchanging one rattling iPhone with another rattling one is not very useful) nor to show customers they care (like offering them some compensation, such as a free leather case – assuming that really covers the rattling noise).

It is as if you were to go buy a new Chevy Corvette and the one you choose turns out to have a problem, such as the passenger door that does not open or its window does not close all the way or whatever other problem (and it turns out you are not alone having that problem with your luxury car...). In return, Chevy does nothing, it just ignores the problem. Would you still find it fair?

I'm also having the same problem but i have a solution for this rattle noise.....

when you are using your iphones don't care for dust & dirt.....after few months the dirt will stuck by the side of power button and button will become tight.....then it will not rattle at all...............

i don't think that Apple will do anything upon this...remember last year's iphone 5 with scratch issue....

“stop trying make stuff up” ??? WTH are you talking about ?Some or most is not ALL iPhones ! Weird enough don't you think ?
I imagine the engineers at Apple deciding they wanted a power button that makes a rattling noise on the new iPhone (because it’s so cool to have it rattle).

And even if ALL iPhones made that rattling noise, would that make it good for users ?

You are either out of your mind, work for Apple or bought them shares !
One thing for sure, I’m glad not having you work at my company.

Then ok, assuming, as you pretend, that the rattling is “normal”, then I would like a “defective” iPhone that does not rattle. Does this reasoning ring a bell in your twisted mind?
