WIFI disabled - Greyed out since iOS 7 update on iphone 4s

My 4s has had no WIFI issues until i updated to iOS 7. after the update it worked for about 20 hours then disabled. I noticed my wifi was no longer connected, i checked the wifi was on and it was, still unable to connect i restarted the phone and now the WI-FI button is grey, dim and wont switch on. However Bluetooth does work fine, so I’m thinking it’s not the chip.

network setting reset

factory reset..... itunes crashed while restoring my data so now unable to re-sync my personal data

battery drain

freezer

nothing seems to fix this issue ! after reading forums it seems a similar thing happened when iOS 6.x.x was released, my 4s is out of warranty, apple seem to be taking no responsibility for the issue, clearly caused by the update as had zero issues until that point… which I find “convenient” as it so happens to co-inside with new iphone launches.

Please help anyone in the same boat ?

not a happy camper!

Can I just say that what kooa just said is exactly right and I agree with kooa 100% and I also saw that same YouTube video a number of weeks ago and have conducted the fix twice now( each fix was done right after doing a software update which then greyed out my wifi icon and caused no wifi) my wifi is still running strong after I completed the same fix as shown in the video (except I used my stove to heat the phone cos I don't own a hair dryer...lol)

I'm currently running on 7.0.6

Hello there, I had the same problem with my iPhone 4S. The WiFi button is disabled, the bluetooth is scanning without giving you the option to toggle it on or off. And even,Settings > General > About > WiFi Address you will find that Your WiFi Address is (N/A)!

After replacing the Wifi chip 2 times (My warnaty is expired by now), it worked for days and it was back to disabled Wifi and Bluetooth. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings did NOT help.. neither restoring the device.

THE SOLUTION IS SIMPLY RIDICULOUS, I SWEAR THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!! YOUTUBE AND GOOGLE IT TO CHECK IT IS TRUE!

I used a hair dryer (as mentioned by several videos on YouTube) and simply raised the temperature of my iPhone until it said "iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it."

You will notice before this message showing up that your iPhone will start to dim the brightness to lower power consumption in order to cool down... DO NOT FREAK OUT!The message WILL BE displayed WAY before reaching a temperature that could ACTUALLYdamage your phone.. so CHILL OUT!

STEPS TO DO THIS FIX THAT HAS NO EXPLANATION

  • Use a hair dryer to heat up the phone. (Place it on top of the phone, and make a gap between the phone and the hair dryer that is at MAXIMUM five centimeters)
  • WHILE USING THE HAIR DRYER! Keep your phone from going to sleep. When you notice the screen is starting to dim.. flick through the home screen to keep it active and on.
  • ** "iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it." WHAT NOW?! Turn off your iPhone and place it on a cool surface in room temperature (e.g. stone-surface Kitchen's counter)
  • Leave your iPhone to cool down for 15 minutes.
  • Turn on your iPhone... your Wifi should be back!

PLEASE UNDERSTAND!!

This method fixed 90% of iPhone 4S models that suffered from WiFi being disabled. The method does NOT have a clear answer to "Why does it fix this problem?"

Do NOT put your iPhone in front of the hair dryer and LEAVE IT!! Stay in front of it waiting for the message to be displayed! If you leave and forget about it, and the message is displayed and the hair dryer is STILL blowing hot air... it WILL damage the device!

I HOPE THIS HELPS 🙂

OMG - I can not believe that heating my phone to the point of a thermal meltdown would fix anything. You'd expect the exact opposite. However, after seeing all the "melt your phone to fix it" posts I said what the **** and tried it. Son-of-a-ditch if it didn't work. My favorite all time IT laugh used to be "no keyboard present, press any key to continue". Gonna have to change that to "iPhone problem, pre-heat oven to..."

Thanks. You da man zane ... crazy that this works, but it saved me from bringing my son's iPhone 4S into the 'shop'. Also crazy to think that Apple knows about this software glitch and hasn't done anything about it. Next challenge is figuring out to get out of a group chat in iMessage. Ah Apple ... thank you for reminding me why I remain a satisfied android customer.

Well, good luck to you all, and Adios, Apple! I have just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4 and expect to have a much better experience. I also ditched AT&T for Credo Mobile so some of my money goes to causes I support. Best of luck out there to all you disgruntled iPhone users. Apple, you have lost a loyal customer due to your lousy customer service. I will look for alternatives to Apple for any electronics products i purchase in the future.

Thank you everybody for visiting my thread. I am unsubscribing to it now that I have found my better option.

It happened to me too. I challenged the "geniuses" at apple and apparently it would cost you 200$ to get your ios7 installed on your 4S - that because you have to repair /change it after the install. I guess they want to make their research on their products reliability on the customer's money.

If it would have lasted for 3 yrs I would have said ok this is what one usually expects from a phone but for them to fail right after iOS 7 install ... is pure BS. It looks like Apple is not anymore what it used to be. Me for one I won't buy ever another iPhone.
