WIFI disabled - Greyed out since iOS 7 update on iphone 4s

My 4s has had no WIFI issues until i updated to iOS 7. after the update it worked for about 20 hours then disabled. I noticed my wifi was no longer connected, i checked the wifi was on and it was, still unable to connect i restarted the phone and now the WI-FI button is grey, dim and wont switch on. However Bluetooth does work fine, so I’m thinking it’s not the chip.

network setting reset

factory reset..... itunes crashed while restoring my data so now unable to re-sync my personal data

battery drain

freezer

nothing seems to fix this issue ! after reading forums it seems a similar thing happened when iOS 6.x.x was released, my 4s is out of warranty, apple seem to be taking no responsibility for the issue, clearly caused by the update as had zero issues until that point… which I find “convenient” as it so happens to co-inside with new iphone launches.

Please help anyone in the same boat ?

not a happy camper!

I am also facing same problem . It is a pure software issue . It has nothing to do with hardware. Apple should remove this wifi bug from this firmware . It is not launch a untested software update . I heard some saying that this problem is in one or two case but tell I know many people are facing this problem . Apple should ask its team to work for solution of this wifi bug.

I had exactly the same problem. I tried everything - resetting network settings, restore etc.

My iPhone 4s was also out of warranty but I took it into the Apple Store anyway. The guy plugged it into a computer and diagnosed that my wifi chip was dodgy and that *coincidentally* (he looked a bit chasten) updating to iOS 7 had pushed it over the edge. My bluetooth was also fine by the way, so I think he was right about that.

I was lucky and found out that because I live within the EU, they are obligated to replace my phone if it breaks within two years of purchase. Of course, this only applies in the store where you bought it. My advice would be to take it in and see what they say.

Based on my experience I don't think it can be fixed with an update, it does seem to be an underlying fault in the phone itself.

I hope this helps. Best of luck with your phones.

i have basically given up, the freezer solution works for a bit but fails again, the procedure is Airplane mode, freezer in a bag for 15 mins then start up and network reset.

took it to a 3rd party, they would not touch the chip.... i have dragged out my old iphone 4 (slow as sh*t) but no wifi issues since.

unfortunately i had backed up my 4s phone post updating ios7 , so had to restore this to the 4... still no issues. i think it’s a roulette who gets effected. Hardware flaky maybe, but the software definitely killed it. Apples "the update tipped it over the edge" is not good enough. No software should be known to tip hardware over the edge....

i was unable to get this resolved fully, so switched back to a iphone 4, but when this contract expires ill think twice about getting an iphone.

...also some friend on facebook said an apple guy told him, thoses people who applied the iOS7 update via itunes have not really been effected, it seems to be those who have downloaded over wifi such as myself.... doesnt help me, but may help others if you spread the word. of course this wont fix this issue if its now there, but may prevent it. nice to know this COULD have been avoided.....

i try the hair drier method and it works (touch wood)

- shutdown then use a hair drier to blow hot air (about 10 cm apart between them) to the eairphone hole for about 3 minute

- after 3 minute, i power on the Iphone

- once login i am able to change the wifi button and able to see my wifi, but somehow, it is not conecting.

- I then do a restore, somehow the phone failed and goes in to "recovery mode" and i do a restore from there onwards.

- once the phone was restored to factory default, i restore from icloud all my data.

------ currently is still doing restoring all my apps about 8G
