My Photo Stream is empty with iCloud Control Panel 3.0

I've got iPhone, iPad and PC (Windows 8) in sync with iCloud Control Panel 2 properly before.

Days ago I upgraded to iCloud Control Panel 3.0, Other shared photo streams and iCloud bookmarks are sync perfectly but "My Photo Stream" is not sync on PC anymore. I've cleaned up iCloud Photos sync folder completely and signed in to the iCloud Control Panel again, but "My Photo Stream" is just not sync.

Any idea?

Hacksin86 suggestion of unclicking "Photo Sharing" when signing into 3.0 Panel has worked the best for me. I usually have to sign in twice, because the first time, the screen shows "iCloud is not enabled." I did not have to delete any folders--although at the beginning of this discussion I did save all the pics and move them to a different folder, but I really didn't need to. As a precaution, I am directly downloading my iPad and iPhone pics directly on my computer, as well as copying and pasting my iCloud pics to another folder (overkill). But the pics load into C Drive\My Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream, as well as to My Favorites at the top of the screen. A few days ago the iCloud Panel signed me out without my doing anything...perhaps it signed out due to a Windows update. Anyway, I'm thinking more and more that it is really a Microsoft Issue. ..(or a "shared Apple/Microsoft issue)...that the iCloud 3 panel on some PC's can really only handle one stream at a time...either "Photo sharing" OR "My Photo Stream.". When both are clicked, I get duplicate versions of the shared photo folders, and very few regular Photo Stream pics. Shutting off "Photo Sharing" is not perfect, however, it is much, much better than only getting a few Photo Stream pics. Overall, with Hacksin86 suggestion of unclicking "Photo Sharing" the situation is livable, (even if I need to sign out and in a few times). My new pics populate in a timely manner. I wish this temporary "fix" would work for everyone....Thank you again Hacksin86!

Sort of worked for me. I now see photostream material but not all of my pictures that were added to the photostream in the last 30 days were downloaded (there were less than 1,000). I also didn't see the new pictures I took post to the photostream but will check that separately.

Not downloading all the pictures observed on two computers.

This explains why it appeared to work on one computer and not the other. To save internet bandwidth I didn't activate shared folders on the second computer.

Getting closer.

To Ratfinkle: Photo Stream still appears to be working....new pics are added in a timely manner----not in order necessarily by date or the order taken, but at least added. And, I have both folders now marked on the iCloud 3.0 panel.....I'm taking a test pic daily. I hope it continues. I have not added any shared photostream pics to see if that option is working, but right now it's not my priority since the regular photos are populating. If I sign out and then in again, the last 30 days don't populate (only aboput 1/2), but also not an issue since they have already downloaded into my default C drive folder (Libraries, Pictues, My Pictures, iCloud Photos, My Photo Stream, November 2013). Thank you again Hacksin86, unclicking Shared Photos seems to have jolted my PC to populate pics....I will add a pic to the Shared Photos to see if that will populate also....time will tell.....and of course, there's no telling how long this fix will last. I wonder if any of the recent Windows Updates may have addressed the iCloud 3.0 Panel????

This worked for me as of right now. Photos are up to date. However I just took a new photo and it's not updating. Will I have to go through this process each time to get it to update????

I tried everything and this was the only thing that worked for me:

  1. Open Task Manager (ctrl, alt and delete) and end ApplePhotoStream.exe and AppltPhotoStreamDownloader.exe if they're running.
  2. Go to your Users folder and navigate to the following path: C:\Users\Dean\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MediaStream\ - Obviously my user folder is Dean but yours will be the user that you're logged into Windows as.
  3. Delete everything in that folder.
  4. log out of icloud, and then log in and re-activate the photos option
  5. it should start downloading again your photos

Sorry you still are having problems....I did not have to go through your current "solve" process....just signed out of the iCloud 3.0 panel; signed in again and unchecked photo sharing...alobeit I had to do this twice because the message on my favoites/iCloud Photos Panel said "not enabled." But the 2nd time was the charm....All of the pics I take with my iPad and iPhone populate fairly quickly.....and now I have both folders checked in the iCloud 3 Panel....and everything seems to be working fine, including the shared photo streams....Sorry this easy fix has not worked for you.....why don't you try it again?? You never know. But at the same time, I don't know how long my Photo Stream is going to continue working.....still checking everyday by taking "test" pics... Good luck!

I just realized that the service Applephotostreamdownloader.exe wasn't running.

So I went to Program files (x86), Common Files, Apple, InternetServices. You'll find the .exe that I just mentioned there. Double click it, and it'll start running. I headed for the photo stream folder and now pics are downloading!

But I'm sure it'll stop working next time I reboot the PC, so while I was in that folder, I right clicked the .exe and created a shortcut. Then I went to the Startup folder (Press the button on the bottom left of your screen, then choose all programs, you should see it there.). I pasted the shortcut there.

No idea if it'll work, but in theory the process should now work every time my machine turns on. Hopefully this issue is solved at last.

After I updated iCloud I thought I wasn't getting anything in my PhotoStream on my computer anymore either. (Windows 7 Pro) Looks like it now is going to >Pictures >iCloud Photos >My Photo Stream instead of >Pictures >My Photo Stream. I found the missing photos in there. 😮

If you open the iCloud Control Panel you can change the place it puts the photos whereever you want. (Photos >Options)

This is a reply to Classic Jeff's solution:

It may have worked for you -- but not for me.

Of my icloud picture folders, the stream is empty, and only one folder (called shared) uploaded pictures from the cloud.

Worse yet, I made the choice to keep the old outlook calendars on my version of outlook and my old contacts. When I set up after turning on and off, the contacts did NOT duplicate, BUT I have duplicate entries for all calendar entries.

I have also tried re-installing the I cloud 3 control panel -- which did not help.

Hoping that Apple will realize that there is a glitch some where.

I hope things come around for you.....Mine has been working fine for at least 2 weeks. I'm not sure what exactly happened to turn the corner, except that Hackins86 suggestion initially worked for only the photo stream part, but now even the shared streams are working also. I have Windows 7 and iCloud 3.0. As I posted earlier, an independent computer tech said that it is a Microsoft issue and that Microsoft has been trying to fix the iCloud PC version to work for several years. It seems to be idiosyncratic to individual PC's. Given that, my 3.0 iCloud Photos Location is C:\Users\(my name)\Pictures\iCloud Photos. This is in addition to the iCloud Photos which load under Favorites at the top left of my screen: Under favorites are the following folders with icons: Desktop, Downloads, Recent Places, Dropbox, iCloud Photos (with the pinwheel). The path is Computer>iCloud Photos>My Photo Stream. If I was to sign out of iCloud 3.0 Panel, the Pinwheel iCloud Folder disappears, but the previously downloaded photos remain in C: drive Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream. I am no longer signing out of the iCloud Panel because things are working. But, if I was to sign out and then sign in again, my experience is that random photos show up---definitely not 30 days worth. However I don't need any prior pics that are already on my C drive folder. Just to play it safe, I'm copying and pasting those pics into a different folder....and downloading directly from my iPhone and iPad. Like I said, I don't know exactly what turned the tide for me---or how long it is going to last. Unless Apple can replicate your particular situation, they will say it is not an Apple issue. The Apple engineers (who I was told design the iCloud Panel), could not replicate my case....thus I was told it was my problem, to reinstall my Windows 7 OS, etc.....I did not reinstall Windows 7. Additionally, I was given a test mode password which enabled them to use my Photo Stream on other computers....and they said they were able to access the photos on other computers. Good Luck.....

To resume the broken My Photo Stream (which was working properly at least for a while), it's my workaround:

  1. Kill these processes:
    ApplePhotoStreams.exe , ApplePhotoStreamDownloader.exe , APSDaemon.exe , iCloudServices.exe , iCloud.exe
  2. Delete this folder:
    %AppData%\Apple Computer\MediaStream
  3. Launch iCloud Control Panel. You will notice that Photos is not sync. Enable it and apply it.

It should be resumed and work... for another while.
