After upgrading from a 100% functional iphone 4s from ios 6 to ios 7.

wifi stopped working. after reboot, wifi setting is greyed out. bluetooth button is shown as busy circle...

done: network reset, backup restore, dfu mode with fresh ios7 file....

turning wlan on in new config bar is available, but does not turn on wifi....

apple diagnostic tool said that I have a charging problem, but everything is fine with charging batteries.

I can not believe that there a so many coincidences with hardwareproblems?

Same problem here, 4S working fine, upgrade (?) to iOS7 and problems with wifi. The problem is not constant, but intermittent, which suggest to me it is not hardware problem. If iOS 7 had blown the wifi chip, that would be it, no more wifi, but a lot of people have said doing certain things restores it, but only for a while.

This is pointing to a software problem.

At times everything in Settings will be frozen or blanked out. I have not tried the re boot yet, but I have let the battery run out, left it for a while then re charged, which has brought it back to life. The OS appears to be hanging itself. Something like this can easily be fixed by Apple with a software update, at no cost to you.

Doing nothing is loosing you customers.

Apple, please please do something to explain what is happening to so many 4s's

I sent in the below product feedback for iPhone on apple main site

Like many others experiencing this dreaded wifi failure on iPhone 4S, I was one unlucky person. Apple is raking in money in some cases where the phone is out of warranty. This problem happened after an iOS 7 upgrade. I took it to the apple store and the so called "GENIUS" said it is normal for the phone to be hot and the wifi antenna to fail 😠. I was not convinced by the answer, I have a 5+ year old phone that has never had a wifi failure issue. While I was in the store another customer came in with the same problem. I asked why all of a sudden are people experiencing this problem? And the so called "GENIUS" said it is a total coincidence. But now do you think all these (thousands maybe millions) experiencing this problem is a coincidence? If so, I demand that Apple release a statement that "All you people experiencing a wifi failure after an iOS 7 upgrade - it is a total coincidence". I bet Apple is not brave enough to do that.

So for me, in order to get the problem fixed I had to pay a replacement cost ($200+Tax) as my phone was out of warranty by about 30 days!

So last week I just ordered a mac and now I am considering to return it. If this is how you treat your customers who make your company's profit and earnings growth, shame on you people!!!

I demand that apple accept this as a flaw in ios 7 and rectify the affected people's phone without fee even for people who are out of warranty.

I know the problem is due to heat generated during and after the upgrade which toasts the wifi chip as proven by a few of the people who worked out a solution. I asked the so called "GENIUS" and he said the heat generated is NORMAL. What the heck, he was lying to me.... Everything is normal and if you are out of warranty, bad luck and pay me big bucks.... I am really really mad at that "LYING GENIUS".😠

See, the problem I have with your post is that you are demeaning. I honestly just didn't read what you had to say. This "Genius" is an employee of a company, and he has certain regulations and rules he has to follow. It's not his fault. And I can just imagine how you treated him in person. This attitude is the main reason I don't particularly care about your issue.

I want to add my name to the list of people whose Iphone's 4S wifi chip has "died". Went to the apple store, my 4S isn't even 2 years old yet. They are telling me the only options I have is to either pay 199$ to get a refurbished Iphone 4S or shop for a new phone. I updated to iO 7.0.3 and then a few hours later I notice that I'm no longer connected to the wifi, I ask my wife if she's still connected and she says yes, I then reset the router, still no wifi. On my iPhone I could still see the green wifi switch so I toggled it a few times, attempted to connect manually. I then rebooted the phone and that's when the wifi switchgot greyed out. Onto the net to find a resolution, I follow the technote from Apple's support site, yay it works. 2-3 hours later I'm disconnected again. redid all of the above steps, this time, nothing to be done, the wifi is staying greyed out no matter how many time I reboot and reset settings 😟

I'm hoping Apple makes it right for me and others having similar problems that are out of warranty, similar to Microsoft made it right for the xbox owners who's xboxes were overheating and getting fried. For now though I have to settle with a 3G connection with my cell provider and closely watch my bandwidth consumption..

I can't help feeling cheated.

I learned about this thread from DSLReports.com. I have updated two iPhone 4S's and an iPad 2 to iOS 7 and never experienced the problems described here. I upgraded all the devices through iTunes and every single time there was some kind of glitch in the upgrade process that wiped my phone/iPad and required me to restore it from the backup as part of the upgrade. Perhaps that prevents this bug from rearing its head.

Just throwing it out for information.

Yeah, don't hold your breath getting a reply with that approach. That is one of the most insulting and demeaning posts I've ever seen.

Let me just say that, as a shareholder, I really, really don't care if you don't buy another Apple product again.

Hey guys, check out another thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5328365), the discussion of the wifi disease has been going on for weeks, alas still no solution in sight.

Weeks? Much longer than that. It's been years.

It's not because of the iOS directly. Never has been. This is a hardware problem, not a software problem. Software will never solve it. Software doesn't cause it directly. It's a side-effect, a by-product.
