Wifi not working after upgrade to iOS 7

After upgrading iOS 7 on my iPhone 4S, the wifi is not working. It cannot detect any wifi nor am I able to enable wifi under settings. Is there a way for me to fix this?

After all the updating, restarting, and resetting my iPhone 5 is still quirky when connecting to wifi. It's reception seems to be poor and I still often have difficulty and inconsistency connecting at many different locations. The "solutions" seem to work for a short time but then the problem returns. I just wish Apple would a admit that there is a general problem with the device and/or software and make it as simple and streamlined as it should be.

There's not a 'general problem'. If it was, then the vast majority of users would have this problem. And that's not the case.

Do all the troubleshootingthat are recommended. Then, if the issue remain unresolved, contact Apple Support.

Have you contacted Apple Support?

OK fine. Then it's not a "general problem" but one unique to my particular unit. Then the point is I purchased a product that does not work properly but requires a great deal of troubleshooting followed by your recommended product support. That still speaks to Apple's design and product quality. There are a myriad of other products in the marketplace.

Then choose one of those, and when that device (like every tech device in the world) eventually needs some form of troubleshooting, you'll realize the reality.

Have you done ANY troubleshooting to determine if it is the device hardware, the device software, your data on the device, or something else?

Restore the device as new. Then test the issue. If the issue disappears, then it's NOT the hardware at all. It is something to do with your data on the phone. Corrupt data can get onto any computer or smartphone, and can cause 'quirky' behavior.

Until you restore it as new and test it, you have no basis to claim it 'must' be the hardware. And in fact, if restoring as new DOES fix the issue, then it's not Apple's device. It's your data.

I've seen even a single Contact on a device that had a single corrupted character in the Contact name that caused the device to reset everytime the user tried to access the Contacts, Messages or Phone app. As soon as that Contact was deleted, the device worked just fine.

Now, do you want an in-depth technical explanation on why something so innocuous can cause that kind of problem, or would you rather just restore your device as new and test the hardware properly?

Then you have your answer. Your device is outside of warranty, and Apple is offering to replace your out-of-warranty iPhone 4S for $199, instead of the full retail price of $450. In other words, at a 55% discount. The replacement will have a 90-day warranty.

You can also check with your carrier about an early upgrade as well. And when you purchase your next, new iphone, either outright or as an upgrade from your carrier, be sure to extend the warranty coverage, either with the AppleCare program or an equivelant coverage.

I make sure I have two years of hardware coverage to correspond with my two-year contract. It makes no sense, to me, to have a contract on a smartphone that is longer than my hardware coverage.

Wifi grayed out and or Bluetooth non-responsive or forever displaying spinning wheel:

It has to be some sort of hardware issue and it is extremely common in the iPhone 5. And 4s. I have an appointment next week at at apple store and will let you know what they do to solve it. I have been reading tons of people's posts not only here, but many other webpages with this same issue even before installing the new software. I have not tried it yet, but the temperature change for the phone via leaving it in the fridge or freezer seems most effective when all other options have be exhausted. Trust me I tried everything:

1. Hard reset

2. Reset network settings

3. Complete phone reset and erase

4. Update of new software: (which I will say does run slower with more hiccups and makes my phone die way faster)

5. Repeated all steps above

6. Turn on airplane mode and do not disturb, turn off phone for 5-10 mins. This actually caused my phone to do some thing I have never seen before. Upon turning it back on, the phone began a fritz of a light display where the background lights were flashing uncontrollably. Fortunately it stopped eventually, but very strange nonetheless.

After all this mess, I decided to finally just take it into apple. All the steps I followed were by the recommendation of Apple and many forums. None have worked. I didn't try the freezer technique, because I plan to get the lowdown from apple before taking any extreme measures that may or may not harm my phone. The reason I believe it is a hardware issue is because of the success rate of the freezer technique. Seems to have worked for everyone who has tried it. Also, due to the fact that I had this issue with a brand new, undamaged, iPhone 5 within a matter of months, can only further point to this explanation. Maybe the cold temperature re-establishes the connections that are being lost in these specific areas. Either way, it does cause many problems with running up a bill as a result of not being able to use wifi.

At the time when this issue started my iPhone was 1 year 3 months old. Yes I was out of warranty.

And just like virtually every other product in the world, if you are outside of warranty, then you have limited options.

Apple is one of the few tech companies that offer an out-of-warranty replacement option for a reduced price.

After updating to 7, after the wifi became intermittent, I tried the Freezer Trick on my iPhone and it worked for a few days.
Then it suddenlty stopped finding any wifi signal at all.

After many discussions with Apple, I bought a Fairphone from fairphone.com and then took the iPhone to a repair place in Australia and it seems the issue was the solder on the wifi.
Seems the phone gets hot and melts.
I have heard suggestions that the update to 7 increased voltage and thus the solder melted on some phones.

Cost-60 Australian dollars as opposed to the 160 pounds Apple quoted me.

It still works but gets very very hot if I use it for too long so I barely use it.
Awaiting the arrival of the Fairphone.

Hi there toni198,

Good Stuff! , but it is recommended if the phone gets hot leave it until it cools down as it's working at a fast rate nearly all the time so it will get hot at times if used for long hours and this will also lead to battery drainage issues but try getting a case if you don't have one as this will keep the temperature stable at most , as your hand alone is warm too.

Thanks,

Man, you really have it out for this guy. I can try to back him up and say that I have had an iphone since they began making them and even worked for AT&T from the initial launch all the way up until the iphone 4. I never had an issue like this ever, nor did I have any customers come in with this issue. Trust me, they always come into the cellular carrier first if a problem like this happens. Lay off this guy and go reasearch for yourself how common of an issue this is. Apple is not infallable, but you would think given their reputation of being a tech savy, honest, customer tried and true company that they would have picked up on this issue by now and come clean. I'll keep you all posted on what they say is the issue.
