This was actually the most useful answer.

To anyone having this issue: Make sure only ONE mail is turned on. For my case, I had a yahoo and Gmail account's "Mail" turned on both at once - it automatically turns them on if you ever create both. Simply only have one account with mail turned on.

My assumption is that once one has both turned on, it doesn't know which account to send mail from, or it tries to send from both at once and seizes up.

Thank you (very, very, very much!) I've been messing with my settings on my phone; the mail and photo apps, and general settings, and couldn't figure out why my phone suddenly was ostracizing the Mail app. I was counting on having this to send some important photos I'd promised my work mates. After trying other suggestions, and getting no where, I was about to head to an Apple store, but read your message, and parceled out the photos through several e-mails instead of just one. This is exactly it; I used to be able to select quite a few photos, and then e-mail them, with no restriction it seemed (at least not on my phone's end, though my e-mail server may've kicked the message back due to quota limitations), but once I split them up, the Mail icon became available again in the Photo app. Either I have a bad memory, or this is a new feature.

Ever since I've uploaded Yosemite on my Mac and iOS 8.1.1 on my phone, it's been one struggle after another. I can't thank you enough for your post!!

As a general PSA, I was having this issue where "Email" was not an option from the share menu when selecting from the Photos app. I note that the Photos app did not offer Email as a sharing option when the number of photos selected was over 5. I'd advise attempting to share a single photo from the Photos app to see if this is your problem and you've tried rebooting, checked your email accounts, etc. already.

Hi, I had the same issue. The solution is quick and simple. I went into "Settings" then "Mail, Contacts, Calendars", then into my main email account. In my case it is "Gmail". There under "Account" I noticed I did not have my Gmail password. So I entered it, touched "Done" and backed out. From that point on my photos were able to be sent without a problem. I hope this answer works for you too.

I have the same problem. I have the latest iOS on my iPhone 5. Strangely, I'm suddenly unable to forward photos through my native Gmail. After I select my photos, the email message box appears and disappears in a flash. I did several thing suggested by users here including resetting the network settings, soft reset, deleting the Gmail account, adding it again, resetting stuff. I'm able to send just one photo now. Just one! And then the email app has changed - I don't have the DELETE box in it anymore. How sophisticated does one have to be to find a simple fix for this? How much cash does Apple need before it can address a genuine problem? Or, at the least, have an Apple rep respond to users' concerns?

I'm appalled at Apple's indifference. Not a fix after several updates. Not even one response since the FIRST POSTING in Sept 2013! There have 64,212 Views as of April 04,2015. That must be a fraction of the total number of people actually facing the problem. It's a downright shame!

Around the same time I did an upgrade to 8.3 and also had to reset my hotmail password - so when I realised that photos I was sending via mail were not arriving - I wasn't sure which was the cause. Note that I had no error msgs and I could still send photos via message. I tried:

- Going to settings, deleting my hotmail account and reinstating it with the new password.

- Did a soft reset (hold down Home and Sleep button)

- Did a Reset Network Settings

None of the above worked.

So I went into the mail app on my phone. I prefer to access my mail via the internet so hardly ever look in here. I could see that the mails were sitting in the Outbox with an undelivered alert by them. When I clicked on this it said that "the user name or password were incorrect". Made no sense as I'd already checked and reset my password. But I clicked a link and it took me to a page with the password info. I input the new password and that was it! Problem solved! So it seems to me that the password was also being stored in the app, separate from the settings mail info.

Hope that helps someone else.
