itunes not syncing since IOS 7

Since IOS 7 I cant sync my iPad 3 or iPhone 5

First it appeared to be just photos so i turned off syncing to a folder in the photo tab but it now get hung on Determining tracks to Sync step 5/6

The sync appears to go fine until it gets to step 5 as above and iTunes still appears to be accessing the drives for a while but the barber pole progress bar is static and eventually the external drive access light stops and ITunes just drops out of syncing no error messages no sync

ITunes does not sync anything, no my new audio books, no new apps etc if I look under the app tab iTunes thinks it has installed the new apps becuase they have remove by each new app name, but it has not as the apps are not on either device, same with audio etc.

My old Iphone 3g (IOS 4.2) still syncs ok so i can listen to my new adiobook on that, at present, but neither my iphone 5 or my ipad 3 will accept new items.

This happened since i installed IOS7 and iTunes 11.1 my mac is running Mac OS10.8.5 and unfortunately Apple Does not allow you to go back to an older IOS

i sync via USB to my devices as i alter alot of the details in my books etc like Book series, book number in series and narrator etc and it means i only need to download the books once and sync the ones i want to itunes.

I have done a warm reset (power button only) and cold reset (power and home button) on both devices but still the issue exists.

I hate IOS 7 its hard to read (yes i know about bold print) and this issue does not make me warm to it.

Also does any one know how to shut off auto play of podcasts in itunes 11.1 even the ones you have marked as manual download are auto uploaded and played.

Itunes Radio for those that are looking for it outside the US should stop looking as it is US only.

Any help on the syncing issue would be appreciated sending Apple emails appears to fall on deaf ears . . .

Since the updates, have you power cycled your computer and your iDevice?

If that does not work then Reset your iPhone. If that does not work, call AppleCare or 800-MY-IPHONE and have them troubleshoot your iPhone.

Since this is your first post in this thread, I have no idea what you have already tried or the iPhone or computer you have. The updates helped me so the best I can suggest is the power cycles and reset. Or call Apple.

Hi

I take it you have powered down and also have tried a power home reset on your mobile device and have tried to isolate which item(s) eg audiobooks/photos etc that are stopping the sync.

So i suggest you should try the following if you have not already.

Shut down your computer

Restart your computer and launch/run nothing at all

Goto your iTunes folder on your computer and duplicate/copy your "iTunes Library.itl" file this will save a copy of your old library file.

Next move/delete/rename the "iTunes Library.itl" file

Holding the option key when starting itunes will also give you the option to create a new library file but i prefer the method above and it gives you a chance to make as may copies as you wish.

Start up/run iTunes, it will rebuild your library file (note if you have altered or added things to iTunes that is NOT PURCHASED FROM APPLE, info/or extra info will be lost, but not the actual files. For example movies you added from dvd's might lose their cover image and be placed in home movies, TV shows you have added from DVD's might end up in home movies, mp3 audiobooks will end up in music ect, you will have to change the info/media type again to place them where your want them)

DON'T WORRY BECAUSE IN STEP ONE YOU SAVED THE ORIGINAL LIBRARY FILE AND ALL THAT INFO THIS IS JUST A TEST AND YOU CAN GET THE INFO BACK AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THAT DUPLICATE FILE

Try and sync your device and see if this fixes the issue.

Also if the sync seems to be endless and the sync button is not greyed out click on sync again and it should finish the sync properly

IF THE ABOVE DID NOT WORK OR YOU WANT YOUR OLD INFO/LIBRARY BACK SIMPLE QUIT ITUNES. THEN GOTO TO THE ITUNES FOLDER & DELETE THE iTunes Library.itl file. THEN RENAME THE COPY/DUPLICATE FILE back to iTunes Library.itl . THEN RESTART ITUNES IT SHOULD BE BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS BEFORE YOU STARTED.

I routinely copy/duplicate the iTunes Library.itl file because if iTunes hiccups and writes over it by rebuilding it i still have a copy of the original and can retrieve all my changes without a painful rebuild. I have been doing this for many years after iTunes finding so called corrupt library files and thus writing over all my painstakingly entered extra info. I have also found that iTunes sometimes thinks the library file is corrupt and it is not

Hope the above is of some help

twohounds,

Then you seem to have a different problem than I did. When I had problems with syncing, I got to the next to last step, either Importing Photos or Analyzing Photos. I narrowed my problem down to syncing audiobooks with DRM-restricted audiobooks. Upgrading those two items worked for me.

What have you done to try to fix it, or to narrow your problem down?

Macblues has given you a good place to start.

Since doing the latest IOS update and Itunes update at the same time I am unable to sync the music to my 5S.

I have checked manual sync, unticked all songs and they stay on the phone and when I tick to sync again it doesn't add the additional ones I tried today.

When I plug the phone in all I get is to the stage of checking songs to sync and it hangs for ages before just completing with no changes

Annoying to say the least
