ios 7 proximity sensor not working

Since upgrading to IOS 7 on my Iphone 4s there seems to be problems with the proximity sensor. Taking calls with handset no longer locks the screen and contact with face inadvertently presses keypad numbers resulting in dial tomes mid call. Never had this issue with IOS 6. Is there a setting I can change to rectify this or will I need to wait for next update of IO7 and the problem is sorted.

Have had the same problem with my iphone 4 after updating to ios7. None of the solutions in this thread have worked for me. I even took contact with apple support and they promised to investigate if it was a know problem and got back in few days just to that no one else seems to have had the problem after the update.
They said it is a hardware problem and that nothing can be done with that since the warranty is over.

Great customer service...

Rick D from Apple Care Customer Support actually contacted me "to gather information for the engineers" - he made me set up my phone as new (without restoring the backup) and promised that if that didn't solve the problem they would replace the phone because the engineers supposedly wanted it to find out what caused the problem. After I set up the phone as a new phone and it still didn't work he told me that he'll talk to the engineers and get back to me about the replacement - but suddenly saying that he wasn't sure anymore if they would replace it since it's an "old" iPhone (4) and has no more warranty *(well well, he knew that from the outset!). As he didn't get back to me I contacted him again (as he had told me to do) and asked whether he got to talk to the engineers. I got back a rather rude email saying "No and I probably wouldn't" and that I would need to speak to "the advisor who originally sent up the escalation to the engineers" - obviously not telling me who that was and not replying anymore now. Right they obviously just want me to buy a new phone...! But my phone - in as hardware - is still perfectly fine, it is the Software that undermines its primary function...!

So - Apple is well aware that there is a problem...but if they just call to gather the data that they already got from reading that thread they'll never solve the issue, and they do not really seem to be genuinely interested in solving it..! Very disappointed (I've been using Apple products since the very first computer I had, and over the years I have convinced many to switch to Apple too - but these days when someone asks me I can't really recommend it anymore...) 😟

I like many here also have an iPhone 4 and also have the same issues. I went to the Apple Store and they actually claimed it was a hardware problem, even though I had zero issues with my phone until the upgrade to iOS7.

I have tried the following to no avail:

- erase and restore from backup

- erase and set up as new phone

- reset all settings

- reset all network settings

I haven't tried anything to do with animation because those options don't work on the 4 anyways.

A new upgrade to iOS7 was released today, but I bet you it's not going to help this problem. I am very disappointed with Apple since they have always been helpful and accomodating to me in the past with all of my Apple devices, but not this time. I am pleased now that Canadian cell phone contracts can't be longer than 2 years since that is how long Applecare lasts and how long an iPhone generally lasts anyways. Lesson learned: if you have the oldest model "supported" when a new iOS is released, DO NOT upgrade!!!
