ios 7 proximity sensor not working

Since upgrading to IOS 7 on my Iphone 4s there seems to be problems with the proximity sensor. Taking calls with handset no longer locks the screen and contact with face inadvertently presses keypad numbers resulting in dial tomes mid call. Never had this issue with IOS 6. Is there a setting I can change to rectify this or will I need to wait for next update of IO7 and the problem is sorted.

NOT fixed in iOS 7.0.3 here.

My wife has iPhone 5. She has had face-triggered hang-up and facetime launching issues ever since updating to iOS 7. Some thing on iOS 7.0.2 and 7.0.3.

This NEVER happened prior to iOS 7. Not once. It is not a hardware issue, not a case issue. We have tried everything in this thread to fix it. Including resetting phone, Reset-All, Siri on, Siri off, Siri on raise on and off, etc.

BTW - I did confirm that here sensor works by calling her phone and placing my finger over the speaker slot and sensor window. Her screen will go blank when I do this. The problem is either intermittent or is a timing issue - I am willing to believe that her habit of answering the phone *quickly* may be triggerng the bug, but the fact remains that she NEVER had a problem prior to iOS 7 update and has a chronic problem now.

I hesitate to say iOS 7.0.3 has fixed the problem with my phone, especially since it wasn't mentioned in the update info. I can say that my phone has been acting fine since I updated.

I went back and quickly read through a majority of the posts and noticed that no one, myself included, ever mentioned what carrier they have service with. This might be a stretch, but I wonder if there are differant issues depending on your service provider. Several people have said that "this" worked or "that" worked, but there hasn't been one solution for everyone. As for me, my service is with Verizon.

Yup. iPhone 4S with Verizon over here. Ever since the iOS7 upgrade my cheek/ear/face will trigger buttons in the touch display while the phone is still against my head.... Most commonly turns on speakerphone. Great feature for public places!

Never had this problem with the previous iOS. I even updated last night to 7.0.3 but it did not fixe the issue. It seems the main purpose for this update was support for the new Macericks release on MacBook.

I wrote about my problem with proximity sensor on page #5 of this tread.

I went to Apple Store, they test my proximity sensor with a special device and it was OK; then they erase completely IOS 7 and they reinstalled it from scratch.

This seems to FIX finally the problem.

I restored my backup, I installed 7.03 and now, after a lot of incoming calls, I can say the issue is gone.

I can suggest to everyone to download again IOS and to reinstall with Itunes from scratch and to test it; later, after some test calls, restore your backup.

This workaround was good for me.

Good luck...!!

I am experiencing the same problem on my iPhone 5. Since upgrading to iOS7 the proximity sensor soes NOT work. When I put the phone to my face it turns on one of the screen buttons (Speaker phone, Mute and number pad). This is an ambarassment and Apple should issue and immediate correction.

With Samsung this was never and issue. I switch from Galaxy IIs to iPhone 5 and I am NOT happy.

So. I reset my phone (all settings). This may have actually helped! I haven't had any serious issues in over a week, and I used to have problems constantly.

TRY DOING A FULL RESET OF ALL SETTINGS! I reccomend backing up your apps and everything with iTunes before you reset so that you do not need to manually edit settings emails etc afterwards.

My wife's iPhone 5 64Gb (white) proximity sencor works only from about 2mm away, so it's too close for most (I mean anyone) users. Also it's too late because, well, 2mm movement is FAST when you answer call. My old iPhone 4's sencor works from 1,5-1cm away, giving enough time for screen to shut off, even if it's slower than iP5. That's easy and simple to try by your finger. Just open a call and slowly move your finger on top ofthe sencor. iP5 has it on the left side of earphone and 4 (and 4S I suppose) haev it on top of it.

Both phones have 7.0.3. in which is too scary. So, APPLE, you need to adjust the sensitivity if it's possible in iOS.

Phone company didn't find anything wrong with the phone. I need to go there by myself and show them the problem. Super SUPER annoying.

I think I finally found what's causing the problem:

When you answer the phone, there's a short animation displayed before the phone call begins and it starts to display 0:00. If you answer the phone and cover the proximity sensor before the animation ends, the screen turns black for a second and then turns back on. As if the animation end turns it back on.

To fix the problem you should disable all animations in IOS 7.0.3 by setting "Reduce Motion" Off.
