ios 7 proximity sensor not working

Since upgrading to IOS 7 on my Iphone 4s there seems to be problems with the proximity sensor. Taking calls with handset no longer locks the screen and contact with face inadvertently presses keypad numbers resulting in dial tomes mid call. Never had this issue with IOS 6. Is there a setting I can change to rectify this or will I need to wait for next update of IO7 and the problem is sorted.

I just sent a mail on Tim Cook's public id:

Dear Mr. Cook,

Seems that Apple's engineering team in US has left iPhone 4 to die on it's own. I am facing two issues since I upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 7 (my phone is in warranty).

1. Proximity Sensor does not get activated in time leading to my cheeks turning on speaker, putting me on hold, call other people randomly.

2. "No Service" after you goto low signal area. Then when you come back to high signal area, you still keep seeing "No Service". The only option is to turn on Airplane mode and then turn it off.

These issues are reported on the community and by other iPhone 4 device users in my office who unfortunately upgraded to iOS 7.

New customers do look at how you treat your old customers especially in India where I reside. In the past 2 months alone since I have been running around pillar and post to Apple Service Centres and Apple Call centres, other people decided not to buy iPhone (including ones who were using Apple products).

The Apple Service centre and Apple Call Centre have informed that they have no option but to raise their hands in despair as the engineering team in the US is not ready to accept the problem and fix it.

I will approach the consumer court in India as I informed the Apple Service Centre today if they can not solve it. They said they can not solve it. What do you want me to do now? Ruin the fun of owning an Apple product. I am an apple fan but disregarding old products just because you don't want to support them is heights.

I also have an iPhone 4 which was working fine until the ios7 upgrade. Now the proximity sensor doesn't seem to be working and I keep muting my calls mid-call.... I guess the button you 'press' depends on the shape of your face!! Well, I'm a Muter. It *****.

It seems ridiculous that Apple can't come up with a bug fix for this after so many complaints: it's quite clearly a software problem.

Since upgrading to 7.1.1 we have had significant problems with both our 4s and 5s phones. Calls disconnecting, call muting, FaceTime activation, speaker activation etc. The 4s phone has basically been rendered unusable! I have just performed the Settings/General/Reset/Reset All Settings on the 5s and disabled SIRI so we will see if this does the trick. Apple - really? Fix this!!!! I convinced my 84 year old parents to purchase iphones because they were user friendly.....maybe time to switch to Samsung.

Hi everyone. This is my first post here and cant believe how many people are having this proximity sensor problem.

Exactly the same problem here on a 4s on 7.1.2 so just thought I would add myself to this thread which now seems more like a novel.

Hopefully we will have a happy ending at some point.

My sensor works sometimes but mostly not. If I look at the sensor through a digital camera however it does seem to be working (infra red can be seen on some digital cameras).

I tried a DARK WALLPAPER (specially darker towards the top).. my sensor started working again. The logic behind this is the screen lets some light fall on the sensor which creates the problem.

No it isn't.

The proximity sensor is an infrared emitter (like your TV remote control) & detector which senses objects close to the earpiece of the iPhone.

The amount of light is irrelevant as is the wallpaper on the screen.

I have the same problem. Tip (allthough only a temporary patch): when calling, before bringing the phone to your ear, slide down to pull down the info screen. This works like a pulldown-screen to cover the touchscreen so you can't initiate any functions with your cheak.

Hoping Apple will solve this soon. Seems to me a phone is primarily meant for communication...
