iTunes 11.1 is freezing constantly. I have to force quit. I then run Disk Utility to repair permissions on the volume and it finds a ton of incorrect iTunes permission. When I open iTunes again, it freezes and changes the permissions again. It doesn't seem to matter what I am trying to do in iTunes.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I join the list of people with this problem. I am finding that ITunes does respond, but after very long delay. It also seems to help to switch context to another program and back. These are not legitimate solutions, but are helpful to me.

Does Apple test their software before they release it?
I think the last several updates to iTunes would indicate they are not doing adequate testing or consumer research. Several major misteps that will eventually cost them.
I turned off the iTunes Match and that seemed to solve the problem. I left it off for awhile and then turned it back on. I haven't had it lock up in the last couple of days.
I'm having the same problem. I hadn't had a problem for months on the previous version, and now every time I want to use my Apple TV, I need to force quit iTunes and restart it before I can stream anything.
I'm seeing the same problem. It's really really bad. Everything is on an external non-AFS drive.
Same problem here, freezes multiple times per day. I don't have iTunes Match turned on so that is not my issue
I thought initially that my freezing was caused by my AppleTVs. But that is not the case. Today, mid-song, iTunes stopped playing the song and froze.
Having the same problem. Did anyone find a solution? I'm on the latest version now (Oct 2013). Seems to happen particularly when syncing my iPhone (5, iOS 7) and I click on Podcasts within the iPhone sync window. Sometimes if I wait long enough, it'll wake up, take a step, then stop responding again.
This issue happening to me too. Seems to happen mostly while streaming to AppleTV. Video keeps streaming though. Happens with iTunes Match on or off. Using OS 10.8.5 on Late 2011 13" MacBook Pro.
I'm also having an issue with iTunes 11.1 freezing up. Seems to happen anywhere between one and four times in a two to six hour span of time. I'm always streaming music (just music, nothing else as of yet) to the AppleTV when the freezes occur. Doesn't seem related to any particular track or album set that I've noticed.
I'm using 10.8.5 on a Mid 2010 iMac; Match is not on.

Same problem here. iTunes is useless. Can't do anything, it is frozen immediately upon launch.
