iPhone 5 is not ringing for incoming calls post iOS 7 update. Have checked the sound settings and everything is in order. The ring tone rings in settings, but does not ring during an incoming call

Might be old news by now, but

Hi

Had same problem-2 solutions

1-on the left side is a swith above the volume control-if" the orange is visible it is set to "SILENT"

2- going to settings-general-accessibillity-scroll to assistive touch and turn it on.

Then you have a white circle on black square icon -tap- tap on device- tap on Mute/Unmute- Try and see if that solved the ringer problem. If it has, go back and turn assistive touch off- that might also solve the problem.

Option 1 is the most likely cause for not ringing I discovered, but option 2 might reveal the hidden muted sound issiue as well.

Hope this helps

Thanks, Ryan. I have one of those wonderful protective cases too but it has recently locked my "silence" switch on the top left of my phone to the "silence" position. When I took the case off and checked, sure enough the switch had moved even though I was getting the message that the ringer was on. When I put the case back on, I had to adjust it a couple of times because the case wanted to put the switch in the silence position.

I suggest that everyone does Option 2 as suggested here - via the Accessibility feature. This constantly resets itself to MUTE when you update the IOS which is extremely irritating.

I don't understand why Apple do not have the standard setting that the phone ALWAYS rings/vibrates when there is a call no matter whether you have the lock on or off. Ridiculous.

Apologies, I realise that it was a lot earlier in the thread! Digger07 explained :

Option 2

going to settings-general-accessibillity-scroll to assistive touch and turn it on.

Then you have a white circle on black square icon -tap- tap on device (icon of iphone) - tap on Mute/Unmute- Try and see if that solved the ringer problem.

If it has, go back and turn assistive touch off- that might also solve the problem.

Sorry about that!

So it has been approximately two days that my phone would not ring on incoming calls. I tried everything from calling and going into a Sprint store and having them do a thorough reboot and updating profile and softwares, subscriber agreement... you name it, they did it! They told me over the phone that it was something with my account and I would have to wait two to three days for them to do an investigation on what may be causing the problem. I was frustrated and decided to see if there was anyone out there with issues as mine. I happen to stumble across this thread and it made my day...TURNING ON THE ASSISTIVE TOUCH WORKS! I don't know why or how, BUT IT DOES! I even try turning the assistive touch to see if it would stop working again but to my surprise it still works.

Thanks to all those who decided to share with us all the different options, Thanks again.

This is not old news to me at all 😁.

Wow thank you! Whoever you are you are such a life saver. I recently had an iPhone4s and this was happening to my phone. But then I bought a 5 because I thought the phone was old and outdated. But the same thing started happening on my new iPhone 5, so I figured iPhones were just crap. But after seeing your post I did that and it started working. Also I went back to check the settings on my old iPhone4s and "Do not disturb" was activated on my old phone too! I wish I could have seen your post sooner I might still be using my old iPhone... But it was time for a new one anyway. But thank you so much I really appreciate, you are awesome!
