Unknown email appears on iCloud restore (ios 7, iPhone 5)

I recently had an iPhone 5 that I reset and restored from an iCloud backup which is tied to my apple ID. Upon restoring the phone I was immediately asked for my iCloud user ID and password but it was prefilled with an unknown e-mail address (a gmail address that does not belong to me). I cleared out the bad address and put in my own info, which seemed to work, but I keep getting prompted for the other address. I discovered that upon restoring my phone, the restore had put most of my apps back, but some of them were stuck on "waiting". I believe these apps were trying to use the other iCloud/AppleID account which uses the unknown gmail address. I don't use gmail on my iCloud or apple accounts, and don't know why or how this appeared on my device. I'm concerned as to how this could have happened. I've been using iCloud paid 20GB for backups on several of my apple devices and have never had this happen before. Has anyone else experienced this before?

No, all of my devices only and ever share one AppleID/iCloud account. I have never seen this gmail address before and have no idea how it ended up on my phone. No one else has ever synched with my iTunes library or transferred apps. Here is something else that is strange. I signed into iCloud using my AppleID which then showed me a list of the restore points to choose. Once I picked the restore point that I wanted, thats when I got the first prompt for this foreign gmail ID. I couldn't change the ID in the prompt so I cancelled it. The restore continued anyway, put back all my settings, wallpaper and apps, but still prompted again for the foreign gmail ID. I was able to change the ID in the prompt once the restore was complete, so I can put in my correct AppleID and password and that seems to work. But then hours later I get the same prompt again. I suspect something is going on with my iCloud account, since I got the prompt for this other ID before the restore ever started. I don't see anything else unusual about my iCloud account, all my devices are there, backups are there, it all looks okay until I did that restore on the iPhone 5.

I'm glad so many people found this thread. However I'd just like to repeat that in my case, I have never traded music, videos or apps, jailbroken or not, with anyone else. The e-mail addresses I found in my itunes library assoiated with my media were all my addresses, and none of them were the ones I was prompted for by my icloud restore - which did not belong to me and I did not recognize them at all. I checked movies, TV Shows, apps, books, music, etc. All of it belongs to me, using my e-mail addresses that have been associated with my apple ID in the past.

I use iTunes match for music, and don't keep copies of my apps in my iTunes library. So I really don't know how this happened to me.

The only way that someone elses apple id could show up when restoring from iCloud is if you have some piece of data (in most cases music) that was downloaded or synced to your device. Or maybe even 1 of the previous devices that you may have had and you just restored the data that was on that device. Only the newer operating systems and software pick up on it. Which would explain how and why you may not remember syncing else where since it could've been years ago.

I am totally confused,

I recently Upgraded from a early- 2010 MacBook Pro to a early 2014 iMac. Some music that I transfer from my iPhone is being transferred under my current Apple id, I have had it since I first became an apple user. The rest of the music I am trying to transfer is coming up with a completely random and unknown Apple id.

ALL OF THE MUSIC WAS PURCHASED THROUGH iTUNES and my iPhone has never been Jailbroken.

I tried to download the music from iCloud, but only 1/4 of my purchased music had been downloaded, the rest is missing.

😕

It has nothing to do with any type of Jailbreak. If you right click over 1 of the songs that's prompting you for the other Apple ID and select Get Info it will show you the Apple ID the song was purchased under. Also if you go to the iTunes Store and Select Purchased beneath Quick Links on the right you can view every song, movie, app etc that was purchased under your Apple ID.

Where I think every one is getting mixed up and confused is because years ago you could sync with whatever computer that had iTunes and share the music. But this is no longer the case. So if there are items on your device that were downloaded or synced you are going to be prompted for the Apple ID they were purchased or downloaded under to be able to share them

I'm also having the same issue with mine (iPhone 6 with 8.1). I had it come up before, but I tried doing a fresh install so as not to have anything tied to it; figured that would have fixed it, but the problem remains. I looked through my music collection and there is on singular track in the purchased section that I didn't buy, but was included in a free to download SXSW artist collection albums, it seems as though iTunes match picked it up and included it in my library. The odd thing is that I"ve never actually used iTunes match, so I'm not sure why that has happened.

This whole issue seems to throw off my restore process, it gets most of the way and then starts stalling. It took multiple reboots and some fiddling to finally get it back up and running. This is incredibly frustrating. (Also pointing out I'm not a jail breaker, nor have I let friends use my phone).

i also have the same issue. Purchased my iPhone 4S new in July have awsts had iphone's and never had this issue before. i restored my phone only to be hit with the screen that says a email I've never seen. ( enter the password for x email address to restore and purchase content to iTune, iBook, and the App Store. i called Apple they instructions me to restore the phone. I've done that and now I think all my photos are lost. My phone constantly says download in them or still restoring from iCloud. Apple said they had never heard of an issue but suggested that I may have picked up data off a neighbors wifi network and that's whre the unknown email address has come from. But it stilldoesnt explain all my photos that seem like they are lost in cyber space now. I'm pretty upset about the photos and don't know what else to do.

So after reading another comment about this issue could be from a song in my iTunes that has another apple ID on it. Sure enough I searched as they said. By purchasing date and started slowing going down the list to check to see if my name and Apple ID where on all the songs. Unbelievablely enough I found a song in my computer that I purchased on my phone from iTunes and syncEd to my PC but SOME HOW had another persons name and another apple ID on it. If I could figure out how to upload the screen shot I would. I'm sure it would help a lot of people. i found this other ID after I restored my phone from my last iTunes back up weeks ago and somehow it also restored my photos I thought I few hours ago where gone forever. I have no idea how this happens but everything seems to be fine now
