Unknown email appears on iCloud restore (ios 7, iPhone 5)

I recently had an iPhone 5 that I reset and restored from an iCloud backup which is tied to my apple ID. Upon restoring the phone I was immediately asked for my iCloud user ID and password but it was prefilled with an unknown e-mail address (a gmail address that does not belong to me). I cleared out the bad address and put in my own info, which seemed to work, but I keep getting prompted for the other address. I discovered that upon restoring my phone, the restore had put most of my apps back, but some of them were stuck on "waiting". I believe these apps were trying to use the other iCloud/AppleID account which uses the unknown gmail address. I don't use gmail on my iCloud or apple accounts, and don't know why or how this appeared on my device. I'm concerned as to how this could have happened. I've been using iCloud paid 20GB for backups on several of my apple devices and have never had this happen before. Has anyone else experienced this before?

No, all of my devices only and ever share one AppleID/iCloud account. I have never seen this gmail address before and have no idea how it ended up on my phone. No one else has ever synched with my iTunes library or transferred apps. Here is something else that is strange. I signed into iCloud using my AppleID which then showed me a list of the restore points to choose. Once I picked the restore point that I wanted, thats when I got the first prompt for this foreign gmail ID. I couldn't change the ID in the prompt so I cancelled it. The restore continued anyway, put back all my settings, wallpaper and apps, but still prompted again for the foreign gmail ID. I was able to change the ID in the prompt once the restore was complete, so I can put in my correct AppleID and password and that seems to work. But then hours later I get the same prompt again. I suspect something is going on with my iCloud account, since I got the prompt for this other ID before the restore ever started. I don't see anything else unusual about my iCloud account, all my devices are there, backups are there, it all looks okay until I did that restore on the iPhone 5.

This is amazing! I just discovered something.... if u sorte the items by Purchase date, and select all of them (which have purchase dates) and right click and Create Mp3, the purchase info is not displayed anymore on the file.... so this may solve issues when restoring items, since they will not have Apple ID's linked to them anymore.... I guess. Well, it's worth a try. :-D

I know the answer.

I got the same problem with my iPhone 5 with the newest software, IOS 9. I could type myself what Apple Care told me, but I choose to qoute something from the internet that is comparable and very easy to understand:

"With a bit of Googling, I've found the root of this issue and it's not a corruption in iCloud.

If you've received "purchased" items from anyone, even if these items are DRM-free, the original purchaser's Apple ID is stored in the file. Check "Get Info" for the file in iTunes. Also see Doug's AppleScripts for a method to see all Apple ID's from all files in your entire iTunes library...

http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=trackdownpurchases

So for example, you have some MP3 files you downloaded from a torrent or received from a friend... for this thread, let's assume you own the CD so having an MP3 version is not a legal issue. If those MP3 files are considered "purchased" from Apple Store, then you are required to enter the Apple ID credentials for each of these items in order to download a new copy from the Apple Store. That's why it's asking for multiple logins and when you "skip" each one, you'll eventually see your own Apple ID. By skipping these "unknown" Apple ID's, there does not seem to be a downside, since presumably you still have the originals in your iTunes library. If you were to provide the correct passwords, these items would be downloaded from the Apple Store otherwise.

The fix is to find and remove these various "purchased" files that contain the unknown Apple IDs. If there is no copyright issue, you could do a "Create an AAC version" in iTunes which makes an identical copy minus the "purchased" status and Apple ID. If you don't already have these items in your iTunes library, then this is a moot point since you wouldn't have been able to re-download these "unauthorized" files from the Apple Store."

Sollution: skip all the strange Apple ID's and the iCloud restore will begin

I'm trying to restore my iphone 6 to an icloud backup. As I go through the various screens to complete the process, i come to a screen that asks me to enter my apple password. An Apple ID is already listed, but it's not mine. And there is no way to delete the incorrect ID and enter my own.

When I hit "skip" to avoid entering my ID, I'm told that I will have problems with purchased items. The whole reason I'm doing this restore is to restore all my music, books, and apps to iTunes on my phone since my computer HD crashed and they're not on my computer anymore.

Does anyone know what to do in a case like this?

I ran into this exact same issue when I was doing a DFU restore via iTunes. I assume you are talking about the "Activate iPhone" screen where this a foreign ID that it wants you to enter along with the password.

First - look here: If you can't activate your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch after installing iOS 9.3 - Apple Support

Follow those steps to see if you can clear it.

If not, call Apple Support, they will want proof of purchase. Once they have that they will send it to the team that will "unlock it." It can take up to 7 days to get back to you. They updated their database 42 hours after my request. No reason why the foreign Apple ID was there - it was an T*****@yahoo.com address. My phone was bought directly from Apple and was never in anyone else's hands.

I initiated the DFU and set the phone up as new at Apple's direction since I was having severe battery drain.

CORRECTION: You are not having the "Activate iPhone" issue - please ignore my comments above.

Heyqaisqm, thanks for your post! I tried to restore my iPhone 5 from an iCloud back up and freaked out when a random email address appeared on the page where you sign in to authorise purchases. I used your method and found that same email address under "Purchased by" for a song in my iTunes.

For others: skip this step and sign into iTunes purchases once the phone is set up using your email address.
