Just got an Space Gray 64g to myself and a 64 Golden to my wife, both came with the problem but after 9 days my wife's power button collapsed, it does not work with a case and is very hard to get it working without any case.

Is that what Apples calls top quality products? Are they realy proud about their manufacturing...

Note.. We live in Brazil, no apple store here.. Apple did released it here a month ago, I bought ours on the Mobile carrier store.. hope they can solve our problem..

Hello everyone. I live in Paris. I just received an iPhone 5S (white and gold - 64Go) that has a power button that rattles. My previous iPhone 4 (black - 32Go) did not rattle at all (I had it for nearly 2 years). The rattle seems to come only from the power button as when you hold it down, you do not hear any other noise as you shake ot tap the phone. I believe we are facing a clear product quality problem. Customer satisfaction and product quality should be on top of Apple's agenda, just like Steve always wanted. Apple should do something about this, given the company's mission statement and the impressive profit they make from their sales: replacing the new defective phones with NEW flawless ones would be a good start. Meanwhile, we could also use our iPhones as maracas to play latin american music...!?

Same here. Purchased a gold 5S 16gb, power and Volume rockers rattle. Volume button is not at bad as power. I have had every generation iphone since 3G and never had this issue. Took it to the apple store and they said the same thing "its normal". When I finally spoke to an apple genius he started talking to me like I had no idea what I was talking about. He said its normal for 5S to make this rattle sound because the new processor and new gyroscope. He had no idea and was pretty much just trying to make stuff up. I didn't buy his explaination since the rattle is clearly made from the power button. As soon as I lightly hold power button rattle goes away. He brough out 1 replacement and it did the same thing. I checked the the few display phones and they all do the same. This is a manufacturing defect. Apple needs to fix this. I am afraid since the power button is so close to the top microphone, it might make popping sounds during phone call or video. Phone works fine for now. Quality control needs to improve since apple calls its product "perfect" and "absolutely gorgeous"

Gold/champaign 16gb has the rattling too. When I record audio or video the sound is picked up, even when I simply point the phone up. I have a spigen tough armor case and the case eliminates the rattling noise in the video and it's a high quality case, highly recommended.

Same with me. I can confirm the rattling issue is not only still there but appears to be extremely widespread, at least here in Canada and the US. My wife iPhone 5S bought last October has no rattling issue (serial starting in DN..). I've tried at least 8 different iPhone 5S, black, white, 16GB, 32 and 64 GB (all serials starting with F and manufactured before Xmas). Each and every time the same rattle is present. I can confirm it affects video recordings, as the mic is really close to the power button. The issue can be solved by using a case with some stuffing around the power button to reduce movement but I feel Apple should acknowledge this. I can't believe more people aren't noticing the issue in their videos. Another problem that often crops up is lint under the camera lens, but that's another issue altogether. Not sure what's going on with Apple's manufacturing at Foxconn, but the phone is no longer worth its price tag.

Today I had scheduled a Genius Bar appointment for my loose rattling power button. I can hear it rattle when I record video and move around, the video even records the sound and it interferes with the video. It is also bothersome, in general, to have a rattling noise on my phone. The "genius" had me unlock the phone (since I have a passcode/fingerprint I.D) and he took it to the back to take a look at it, came back and said there's nothing wrong and that it's the "vibrating motor." Yeah, sure. I place my finger on the power button and move my phone and it has 0 rattling, when I let go it rattles like a maraca. I then asked him if he could open it and try and fix it for me, and he told me that he had just opened it and everything checked out fine. Another lie, he gave me my phone back unlocked and into my settings. If he opened it it would have been turned off, and on again which would request my passcode which he doesn't have. My previous iPhone 3/4S/5 has never done this and I see it as a simple fix if they were to really open it. I have fully purchased a new iPhone every year for the past 3 years and when I encounter a problem I'm lied to and told there is nothing I can do about it. I'll be scheduling another appointment soon in hopes I get a different employee that will actually help me.

Just got my 5s gold...the lock/power button rattle was so loud it made me jump this morning when I put it in my pocket as I thought the phone was turning on.

So I got to thinking...I just got my Spigen Tough Armor Case...I was eating and Organic Apple and before I bit into the apple, I removed the Organic sticker that they put on the skin...

Did some more thinking and removed the Case on my 5S (as it did not remove the rattle, took the edible apple sticker and folded it over onto itself lengthwise so that the sticky side was out, placed it over the lock button, put the case back on and Viola...no rattle.

Just saying, sometimes an elegant solution is right there in your refrigerator...peace.

Recently, I've noticed with my Verizon iPhone 5 that I've had to either push the power button really hard or push it a few times in order for the screen to go on and off. I've had this phone since a few days before it's release (Verizon customers got it early). I noticed when fiddling with the button to see what my problem was that there was a rattling sound. I looked the issue up on the internet and this thread appeared. Whenever I shake my iPhone, the rattling is there, just like a lot of you are mentioning. My phone isn't under warranty anymore and I'm not going to pay for a little problem like this, so I'll leave it as it is. But I do want to achknowledge the issue as many people are having it. My guess, a small design flaw. Other than this, my phone works great.
