Waiting for items to copy stuck iOS 7

iTunes on my Mac is updated to 11.1 (126). I have update the operating system on my iPhone 5 to iOS 7. When syncing the iphone with my PC since the iOS upgrade, it gets stuck on Waiting for Items to Copy (Step 7 of 7).

That happens to me sometimes. Try restarting the phone and the laptop, and it might take some time so leave it. thats what i did.

Hi all

This worked for me - though reading through various threads it looks like this is a multifactorial problem with people experiencing the same symptom due to multiple causes....

Seems on some threads there is mention of a problem with some album artwork causing this issue. I had a think back and relised that problems on my setup started after I uploaded a mix-CD a friend had made for me (11 different singles). I had uploaded the different artwork for each track separately.

When I deleted all the artwork and put the same image for all the tracks on the compilation the problem was resolved.

I can't promise this will work for you but it might be worth a try making sure you only have 1 image per album / complation.

Good luck!

Thanks "P". And I also had to go to iPod in "Settings / iCloud / Backups and turn off iCloud Backups, since in iTunes, the first tab the save to Computer would get automaticaly unchecked and go to iCloud Backups again when clicking "Apply"

This all reminds me of the Mobile Me Mess. Going back and forth and trying a bunch of solutions than never worked.

Unfortunately, all these settings did not work for me and Music and Podcasts are not syncing.

Argh?

I think I'll give up for a while.

Good luck all.

I'm currently stuck on Step 5 of 5 -- Waiting for changes to be applied. I have iTunes on my laptop running Windows 7.

I'm not sure if I should disconnect or what. It's been a good half hour and there is not that much stuff I'm syncing, just trying to get some ringtones onto the phone (another issue that everyone seems to have trouble with). Shouldn't take this long. Something is obviously 'wrong.'

This happened yesterday and I disconnect the phone. As a result of that, I now have 'phantom' icons on my iPhone screens... apps that have been deleted, are grayed out, but still visible. Can't delete them off the phone.

I never had this problem with Android phones.

Grrrrr....

I suppose I can just kill iTunes (which I, literally, wouldn't mind doing. It's the worse piece of software I've ever had to deal with).

One thing we could all use is a bit more patience. We seem to expect things to work instantly because that is what the marketing propaganda promises and, sadly... so many of us believe it hook, line and sinker. Is that realistic? In my experience, we simply need to wait a bit longer and give our patience muscles a workout.

The thing is, Apple needs to step up to the plate and eat their own dogfood too. They need to improve the UX so that users like us know exactly what is going on right now with our machines and devices. That progress bar we have come to believe as a reliable indicator of actual progress is out of date and not nearly accurate enough.

I appreciate the message Apple shared 'waiting for changes to be applied' but sheesh... how about letting us know how long such a phase is going to take? and what ever happened to injecting a bit of humor into the equation?... Afterall, it's a computer and it can calculate time so, why can't the process include something like:

Hey there Ted (afterall, it knows my name and login details)

I know you've been waiting for 14 minutes on this step 5 of 5 but, please don't worry... we completed 80% of the changes and are muscling through the rest right now... It should only take another 2 mins or so.. shall I alert you with an annoying sound when the job is done?

In my experience, this Waiting for items to copy or waiting for changes to be applied issue simply needs two things. A better UX from Apple and more time and patience from your side. Give iTunes a few more hours to complete the task... and let Apple know that you too want more information in the UI so that your expectations are more realistic. peace - out

More patience? Generally speaking, I would agree with your statement and the idea behind it, but this situation was not one remedied by patience, nor was it created by lack of patience.

The evening that I posted my comment (above) I spent several hours reviewing all the various threads regarding this same problem, its similar manifestation on various devices, apparently experienced by many people over the last several years, most of which remained unresolved. All the while I was reading these complaints, my own iPhone was stuck on step 5 of 5, Waiting For Changes to be Applied. My iPhone sat in that 'stalled' state for at least three hours before I finally pulled the plug. Had I not, I might still be waiting. I was not syncing my music library (I subscribe to Match), nor was I syncing photos. There were some updated apps, not many, and most I don't even sync to my iPhone. Basically, I was simply trying to sync some new ringtones. That should not take three+ hours. Or longer.

That said, apparently the latest version of iTunes which I installed the following day--yesterday (with no small amount of trepidation because the previous update had major problems, resulting in a failed installation which required the removal of every single component of the program, along with some other 'through-hoops-jumping,' before being able to do a clean install, this all being very time consuming), has resolved the problem. For me, anyway. The syncing of my iPhone is working well again. Like it should.

I doubt I'll ever be a fan of iTunes. I am sick & tired of the constant updates to it, too; they seem to come weekly now. But I'm obviously tied into it until such time I return to the Windows environment and then I'll have to redo everything, which I did many years ago when I converted from Windows to Apple. That is not likely to happen any time soon, given the number of Apple devices I own, and like. They are very good products, all considered. It's too bad iTunes can't be as good a program as the devices it serves to support.

I'll post in all discussions I previously posted in or read about this matter as no solution have worked for me.

Even though iTunes and iPod music and video syncing are the essence of having both, it's obvious since iOS 5 that Apple has no intention of fixing this bug (well, lets be optimistic and just think it' just taking lots of time like some previous posts say). So in the mean time, or maybe forever:

I think I have a temporary "alternate solution" which many people probably already do, but which I just thought of. Here goes.

-Forget about "Syncing" music and videos and use "Manually manage music and videos" in the Summary Tab in iTunes when your iPod is connected to your computer.
-Uncheck "Sync Music" in the music tab.
-Uncheck "Sync Films" in the film tab.
-Now sync the iPod.

-When you hit the iPods triangle (drop down) in iTunes side pane, you can click on "Music" and see if it has all been erases. I my case, some of the music was still there (since syncing doesn't work) and I had to take song by song and hit "Command - Delete". Same for videos.
-Then, drag and drop either the music you want directly from iTunes to the iPod icon in the left pane of iTunes or even playlists. I think this works with genres too. The additions will immediatly start to transfer without syncing and you'll see them adding to the iPod. Same for videos.

-Resyncing then worked without any latency with messages like "Waiting for changes to be applied" or "Waiting for items to copy".

Of course, if you make changes in iTunes (add music, delete, change genres, stars, etc.), you'll have to make them manually in the iPod or manually delete the old content in iPod et drag again back in from iTunes.
Hope this helps a few people.

I'm going this way for a while.

As for Podcasts that were also not syncing, I also found a workaround although a bit different.

Having this issue as well as the 0x80092013 I can't connect to the iTunes store to update the apps in iTunes.

stalled on waiting for items to copy for a few hours now, I left the house ran errands and still waiting

I have tried all of the suggestions and nothing, some say it's a windows 7 issue. But this only started happening when I updated to iOS7.x

I did not do it right away, finally just updated last week...

step 5 of 5, waiting for items to copy is where it is stuck.

Hi All,

With regards to error 0x80092013 – this relates to a failure of iTunes to correctly reference a valid CRL (which prevents the establishment of an SSL connection to the iTunes store).

Now, a large CRL endpoint recently moved locations, interesting just days after HeartBleed hit (see here: http://www.lyncblog.info/2014/04/update-your-firewall-now-with-this-new-crl-endp oint/). It would seem that iTunes requires access to this specific CRL.

For home users, your router, computer or browser may have cached the old CRL location, thus causing the issues with your iTunes connection – this is why the users attempting DNS changes have had some success.

For corporate users behind a proxy or firewall, the issue will relate to the new CRL location not being whitelisted. This connection is not proxy aware (sigh) which means you won’t be able to authenticate to enable iTunes to access the CRL – the only way is to whitelist the new URL.

So do yourself a favour and add sa.symcb.com to your firewall’s whitelist.

With sa.symcb.com whitelisted, iTunes should be able to successfully obtain a valid CRL and your iTunes connection should now succeed.

It would have been nice if Apple could have provided a little more assistance in this matter – especially for enterprise customers. But hey Hopefully this post helps some users out there. 🙂

You know, folks... the sync in iTunes is really terrible. I can't believe it's so slow and resource hogging. And all the errors, especially the waiting for items to copy and the infamous error -54. This pice of software has been bugging me since 4S, and it has really become a potentially unwanten program.

The discussion forums is full of tips of what you can do fixing your sync problem, one stranger then the other and blaming everything and everyone but Apple iTunes itself. And the fixes is totally random, the lastest being updating your firewalls whitelist. But there seem to be one trick that always win: reset the iTunes library and your iPhone. Really? It's like "Can't open Notepad? Reinstall Windows.".

iTunes has been like this for years, it really makes you doubt the programmers use iTunes themselves.

I don't know why I bother to write this post anyway. In Apple forums, nobody can hear you scream.
