Bugs in reminder app - iOS 7

Is anyone else having bugs with the reminder app since they've upgraded to iOS7? For background info, I use reminders all the time in the "Today" mode, which is now the little clock icon mode.

Issues I'm having:

1. Sometimes Reminders won't even load. I just get a black screen. Removing the app by double tapping the home button and swiping it closed doesn't even work - only restarting my entire phone fixes the problem.

2. When I add a reminder to the bottom of the day, it actually changes my previous reminder in the list. For example, I'll have the day list like this:

10am Email Fred

11am Pick up dry cleaners

7pm Gift for Nancy

If I add a new task like "Put out garbage bins at 8am" by clicking below Gift for Nancy, I end up getting two versions of "Put out garbage" - one at 7am, and one replacing Gift for Nancy at 7pm. I hope that makes sense.

3. I cannot add a task easily for days past tomorrow. Say I want to add a task for next Thursday. In the last version, I'd click on the date at the bottom of the screen and then just add the task. Now when I scroll down to Thursday, I can only edit the last task in the list, not add a new one. I have to create a new task for Today or Tomorrow and then manually edit it for Thursday. This is an annoying extra step, but not as bad as the first two bugs.

I hope developers at Apple see this - it's a big bummer that my most used app after email and messages is so broken right now 😟

Otherwise, I really like the style of the app and the convenience of the swipe from the bottom access to most common settings! I do get a little dizzy seeing the background move compared to the apps when I move the phone, but I imagine that most people don't get nausea as easily as I do!

True, does seem to fix the problem with Reminders.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, it's a few days too late for me. I downloaded Toodledo, and pretty much love it. It's easily customizable, and can be as simple or complicated as you like. I considered switching back to Reminders, but ultimately, I think I trust a paid app more than I trust Reminders, which can obviously get buggy with various updates. Not something I'm a fan of dealing with. Well worth $2.

I tried Wunderlist a year or so ago, and I gave up on it because while you're supposed to be able to email yourself a list and have it appear in your app, it didn't seem to work.

I want to thank all of you for your posts. Like other users whose comments I've read, I relied on Notes and Reminders as my external brain to manage everything that happens during my day. I have been into my local Apple store repeatedly since I upgraded to IOS7. The folks there have been very nice, but quite ineffective at solving my problem. The last guy I worked with actually suggested that I was using Reminders too much (I sort of thought they wanted us to rely so heavily on their product that we perceive we can't live without it). I am a huge Apple fan, but I have been so disheartened by this experience and the complete loss of functionality that made my day managable, that I am actually considering moving away from my iPhone when I become eligible for a new phone. In the meantime, I will try out some of the apps you all recommended. If anyone finds any other apps they like to take the place of Reminders, please post it for the benefit of us all.

mkgreer - you speak my mind. I think exactly the same. I have been using apple sincs Atari ST times (mid 80s) and never baught anything else. But with a very rough running iMac 27'' and absolutely useless $800 gadget called iPhone (just because I updated) makes me want to explore Ubuntu much more. I am sure they will have great phones and tablets soon and they won't restrict the user as much as Apple tries to control everybody.

In terms of apps: "Awesomwe Note". Kind of a strange name but I downloaded it about two weeks ago and never looked back to "Reminders".

It offers everything "Reminders" did and more plus it integrates iOS Remiders and iOS Calenders so you can create new events as iOS Reminders and if Reminders ever gets usable again you can switch back. It also shows all calendar items of your choice in the same view. A great integration I was always hoping for in iOS: calendar and reminders together.

Adding new tasks is also much easier and quicker than in Apple's "Reminders". It all works very reliably.

The app offers a lot more - but I am only using the "planning part".

I am not in anyway connected to the developers of "Awesome Note". It's just a great replacement for "Reminders" - although not cheap at $4 or $5 ...

JenzV,

I took a cursory look at Awesome Note in the app store just now and it looks like it is missing a key feature for some of us; it doesn't sync with Outlook/Exchange.

I've tried Task-Task in the past which does sync but it's not reliable enough for me and I fear that there's not much development going on with it as their website looks pretty stale and updates seem to be few and far between.

For my personal reminders I've been using ANY.DO and I'm pretty impressed but it doesn't work with Exchange/Outlook either which is important to me.

I'm hoping that 7.1 will fix some of the problems. In the meantime all I do is look at reminders with my iPhone. I don't add or update anything for fear that tasks will disappear.

I have a different Reminder bug.

I use the notes field in various apps to hold large amounts of text, screenfuls of text, about as much as in the original post, above. Now, I can not edit text near the top of my notes.

Click down near the middle of a Note containing large amounts of text, so that you would have to scroll a few screens full to get to the bottom. On my iPhone 4S, the cursor scrolls off screen! A Select-Paste menu appears for the off-screen text and I can not scroll up to it. If I type, I can not see what I enter, it stays off screen!

BTW, as a dev, I think I know the source of the bug! It seems to be the vertical distance of the other fields above the text (about one screen's worth). When clicking down to mark the cursor point, the cursor position is calculated from the top of the whole reminder. When entering edit mode, this value is used for the cursor position in the notes field. The offset due to other fields may not be factored out.

On the other hand, fixing this does not solve the can't scroll while editing problem.

(Could you -Apple- use a hand in fixing this? )

I am having the same issue as HenriS and it's making the Reminders app unusable for me. Apple, please fix!

There is no way to add a reminder (+ sign missing) without scrolling laboriously to the top of my 700+ tasks.

When I search for a task, I find it, but then clicking on it doesn't open the task, but rather just dumps me back at a random position in the list of my 700+ tasks. Scrolling up and down, the task I searched to find isn't visible anywhere nearby.

I left feedback for Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ - if you haven't yet, please do!

This just started happening on my 4S. I updated to iOS 7 a couple of weeks/months ago (whenever it came out) with no problems. But just a few days ago, Reminders just stopped working completely. I had the New REminders screen with the + and the alarm clock up top, but it wouldn't take any entries - manually or through Siri. I tried restarting, resetting, adding 7.0.4 update, etc. with no luck. I was able to turn off the reminders app in icloud and then turn it back on and the reminders I had were re-established (thanks drjustina) and the app SEEMS functional again.

However, in the mean time, I have downloaded Alarmed as a replacement reminder app. It's free, but if you upgrade for $1.99, it says it syncs with iCloud. No luck with Siri, though, which is how I enter most of my reminders. It's not fabulous, but it was cheap and will help make sure I have some reminder functionality.

In case it hasn't been mentioned before, another good option is OmniFocus. It can be used on the iPhone or with the Mac app, it sychronizes among multiple devices seamlessly, and offers more robust functionality than many of the less expensive solutions. I've been using it for a couple of years and rely on it heavily.

Three negatives:

1. Price - the Mac app is $79.99, and the iPhone app isn't free but I don't know the cost

2. No Windows app (having that would make it perfect)

3. No web interface (since the data is in the cloud, why not?)
