Bugs in reminder app - iOS 7

Is anyone else having bugs with the reminder app since they've upgraded to iOS7? For background info, I use reminders all the time in the "Today" mode, which is now the little clock icon mode.

Issues I'm having:

1. Sometimes Reminders won't even load. I just get a black screen. Removing the app by double tapping the home button and swiping it closed doesn't even work - only restarting my entire phone fixes the problem.

2. When I add a reminder to the bottom of the day, it actually changes my previous reminder in the list. For example, I'll have the day list like this:

10am Email Fred

11am Pick up dry cleaners

7pm Gift for Nancy

If I add a new task like "Put out garbage bins at 8am" by clicking below Gift for Nancy, I end up getting two versions of "Put out garbage" - one at 7am, and one replacing Gift for Nancy at 7pm. I hope that makes sense.

3. I cannot add a task easily for days past tomorrow. Say I want to add a task for next Thursday. In the last version, I'd click on the date at the bottom of the screen and then just add the task. Now when I scroll down to Thursday, I can only edit the last task in the list, not add a new one. I have to create a new task for Today or Tomorrow and then manually edit it for Thursday. This is an annoying extra step, but not as bad as the first two bugs.

I hope developers at Apple see this - it's a big bummer that my most used app after email and messages is so broken right now 😟

Otherwise, I really like the style of the app and the convenience of the swipe from the bottom access to most common settings! I do get a little dizzy seeing the background move compared to the apps when I move the phone, but I imagine that most people don't get nausea as easily as I do!

It's true. I can't believe they STILL haven't fixed it months later. I cannot use the iphone version of the app at all; it screws up everything. I have to open my laptop every time I want to check off or a reminder. Not ideal. Pathetic, really.

Sold my iPad; Nexus 5 on the way to replace the iphone. Ios7 just killed the whole workflow.

It is definitely pretty bad that Apple has yet to fix this and that I've had to force myself to stop using this app as it it deleted some of my data on more than one occasion. With that said, I downloaded the Fantastical 2 calendar app onto my phone. This app also integrates the iCloud reminders. It works AWESOME for my calendar, and integrating reminders into the app makes it all the better. It has resolved all of my issues with the reminders app, and for the most part I'm not sure I'll ever go back to the Reminders app. Since it uses icloud data, I'm still able to access my Reminders on my Mac, via SIRI (adding new ones), and via the iCloud web site. For those having this issue, this seems like a great solution -- you get a better Calendar app and no Reminders bugs.

Maybe there is hope. I had opened a bug on the Apple Developer bug tracker back in December and just got a response asking if this is fixed in the latest 7.1 beta released yesterday. Glad to see they are working on this! Here is what I had reported, does anybody have a way to reproduce this every time? For me it was always sporadic and not something that would happen every time.

Summary:

While adding a new reminder under the "schedule view", the reminder save replaces an existing reminder AND is also added (so it is now duplicated)

Steps to Reproduce:

1. make sure there is a reminder under "today" and go to scheduled view

2. On calendar view, under "Today", add a new reminder by tapping white space below an existing reminder already there.

3. observe that on occasion the reminder is duplicated because the previously existing reminder has been replaced.

Note: I'm not able to consistently reproduce, but I have witnessed this multiple times. I think it might have something to do with reminder times (adding a new reminder before after the existing reminder)

Expected Results:

The existing reminder is not touched by adding a new reminder

Actual Results:

the previously existing reminder text is replaced by the new reminder text. The new reminder is also added so it is now added twice.

Version:

7.0.4

II gave up on Reminders and instead I downloaded the Toodledo app and am using that. The nice thing about Toodledo is that it syncs with the Reminders app. So I can still use Siri to create reminders, and Toodledo will automatically sync to pick up new reminders. I'm not totally sold on Toodledo, but it's the best replacement I could find. I will absolutely not use Reminders again until it's completely fixed. I'm just not willing to waste my time screwing around with it anymore.

It's ironic, I switched to the built-in Apple Reminders app in IOS6 FROM Toodledo, because it was a more streamlined, simple task management system. Now it is truly garbage, completely unusable in IOS7. I can't believe they haven't fixed it yet. All they had to do was take the IOS6 version and stick a new skin on it; but it's this completely new, broken app that screws up your reminders in iCloud if you even open the app.

Apple is just killing me with this current joke revision of reminders.

I have an iPhone, Macbook pro, and iPad. I use reminders synced across all of them, and they are vital to my daily workflow (I work as a project manager, and in real estate). I have so many things going on at any given time, I have to have a reliable assistant. Reminders in iOS6 was a rocksolid one. Since iOS7, its become a total joke.

Since iOS7, reminders regularly faily to sync properly. Oh, they may sync..but it may be after i deleted that reminder on a different device (IE, I delete it on my phone, later it shows up on my laptop). Then sometimes that will re-sync it to my phone.

Regularly, I have a whole days worth of completed reminders that i have deleted suddenly come back. Just as regularly, I have reminders not ever pop up on my lock screen (though they do appear as incomplete within the reminders app).

Just as regularly, I have to actually open the app and wait for reminders I put in on other devices to actually appear. I could put 10 things in on my computer at the start of the day, and by 1-2PM I realize im not getting anything popping up, so I open reminders on my phone and wait until they arrive. Sometimes they do, sometimes they dont (and yes, i have app refresh and everything else on).

This is just issues with the functionality of reminders..the new interface is a whole new set of problems.

1 - When reminders pop up on my lockscreen, I need 4 options: Delete, Snooze, Mark Complete, and Dismiss. Those are the 4 things I am likely to do with any given reminder, and having to go INTO the app to mark them as complete is really annoying. This is simple UI here.

2 - When I go into the app I have a list of 10 reminders that need to be marked complete (because ive been dismissing them by closing my phone). I mark one complete and when I start to mark another, the whole list re-organizes to slide the completed one up, causing me to incorrectly mark complete a different reminder. Also, sometimes the reminders I mark off disappear and then come right back and then disappear again while im trying to mark them off. THIS IS AWFUL AND NEVER HAPPENED IN iOS6.

3 - There is no distinction between reminders that will go off later that day and reminders that have already gone off. They are just lower or higher in the list. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT REMINDERS I NEED TO CLEAR..and I need to see them quickly. Again, this is UI 101 Apple. You are SO much better than this. This also constantly makes me clear out incompleted reminders when I click one that ive done and it reshuffles them all ALA complaint #2 above.

Now all of you can blast John and I for daring to call Apple out on issues, you can criticize our tone or otherwise nitpick, but instead I would encourage you to either help if you have an answer, or just let it be. We're writing like this because we are experiencing seriously annoying issues and we need anwers. We don't need to have a fight picked with us for no good reason.

Reminders move as you delete them! - SIGH - that is such an old basic basic UI design issue.

(Your seeing it means they didn't test!!)

Suggestion for you. Scroll the reminder list so the last one you want to delete/complete is on the bottom of the screen and the first one you operate on. Then, when you perform the action on it, the ones below move up but the next one you want to act on hasn't moved (one hopes).

I've noticed that there is little mention of how editing an item is messed up. This is most visible when you have a lot of text in something. Click in the text and extra unnecessary scrolling occcurs. Some times I've needed to type blind because the edit cursor and what I type is off screen!

I also believe that this text problem can directly connect to some of the operational issues people have been mentioning.

BTW: You may not want the lock screen to perform actual functional operations like "Delete, Snooze, Mark Complete, and Dismiss". If it does, you may pocket-delete items if the lock screen accidently is enabled.

I am also waiting to hear from Apple on the issues I've raised with them. And my offer to join in and work on the solutions still stands.

Jan 9, 2014 8:36 PM in response to HenriS

Yes I have the same text scrolling problem when I have a lot of text in a reminder and while I have been typing blind the real problem is trying to select text for copying or deletion because you just can't because you don't have access to the cursor on the text you want to select. I have no choice but to wait until I get to my desktop computer to update if I remember.

Also can the individual task lists have an option to be sorted by date as well. I have no idea what the ordering paradigm is now (not date nor alphabetical nor, it seems, order of creation although maybe that is it)

So to show my displeasure I am going to use the nastiest insult in the Apple universe. Apple your reminders app is (cover your children's eyes) "inelegant". There I said it. I feel SO DIRTY!!!

Jan 12, 2014 6:10 AM in response to yip4yaks

As Steve Jobs would say... "Its Magical"

I have been using reminders for a week and today they all dissappeared..

not because I completed them all, they have simply dissappeared from the app.

The reminders have also been removed from my Mac reminders and icloud.

This app is super shoddy.

I cannot believe the great Apple cannot get a simple reminder app to work.

Jan 24, 2014 9:56 AM in response to yip4yaks

Wow, absolutely dreadful app, good to see I'm not alone in having issues.

My primary issues is a little different but I suspect related. When creating a calendar item I typically set two alerts, the first alert two days out and the second alert one day out. What happens when I do this is that alerts flip-flop, ie the first alert becomes the second alert and vice versa. At that point neither of them work. I suspect a pretty basic logic error in the coding but who knows how convoluted it is behind the scenes.

On another note, the interface is terrible. It's sterile looking, hard to read and just doesn't work well. Too bad the decided to waste programming resources in making special effects of dubious value rather than insuring that they produce a product that enhances productivity.

I told my wife not to upgrade to IOS 7. Maybe I can talk her into trading phones.

Feb 4, 2014 6:41 PM in response to yip4yaks

I have all of these issues too. In addition, when I view my reminders in iCloud while on a PC the screen constantly crashes and closes and asks me if I want to send data to apple. It happens daily. Hey apple what are you doing with all this data of crashes I keep sending you? And what's with me having to snooze every pop up at the top of the screen three times before it does away! Three times for each! I have 30 reminders daily! This is insane and really disappointing coming from a company like apple. The reliability of this app is pathetic.

Feb 8, 2014 8:54 AM in response to yip4yaks

I'm still having all these problems too— line duplication, items deleting or reordering on their own, not reordered when I try to make them, app not updating from icloud (if I make changes/new reminder notes on my iMac) unless i shut my phone off completely then turn back on. It's very frustrating this is still not fixed— seems like a fairly simple app so surprised it's taken so long to solve.
