Bugs in reminder app - iOS 7

Is anyone else having bugs with the reminder app since they've upgraded to iOS7? For background info, I use reminders all the time in the "Today" mode, which is now the little clock icon mode.

Issues I'm having:

1. Sometimes Reminders won't even load. I just get a black screen. Removing the app by double tapping the home button and swiping it closed doesn't even work - only restarting my entire phone fixes the problem.

2. When I add a reminder to the bottom of the day, it actually changes my previous reminder in the list. For example, I'll have the day list like this:

10am Email Fred

11am Pick up dry cleaners

7pm Gift for Nancy

If I add a new task like "Put out garbage bins at 8am" by clicking below Gift for Nancy, I end up getting two versions of "Put out garbage" - one at 7am, and one replacing Gift for Nancy at 7pm. I hope that makes sense.

3. I cannot add a task easily for days past tomorrow. Say I want to add a task for next Thursday. In the last version, I'd click on the date at the bottom of the screen and then just add the task. Now when I scroll down to Thursday, I can only edit the last task in the list, not add a new one. I have to create a new task for Today or Tomorrow and then manually edit it for Thursday. This is an annoying extra step, but not as bad as the first two bugs.

I hope developers at Apple see this - it's a big bummer that my most used app after email and messages is so broken right now 😟

Otherwise, I really like the style of the app and the convenience of the swipe from the bottom access to most common settings! I do get a little dizzy seeing the background move compared to the apps when I move the phone, but I imagine that most people don't get nausea as easily as I do!

I definitely have had the same issues. The app's design is less intuitive, for one thing, but that's another topic I guess.

I've had the same problem where adding a new task will actually overwrite the one before it; and one seems to "steal" the properties of the other (eg repeating settings).

I've had to re-add a daily repeating task about 5 times; it used to work just fine on the previous version, but now will disappear.

Overall it just seems really buggy.

I can hardly use the Reminders function since upgrading to iOS7 on an iPhone 5. I use Tasks extensively in Exchange, and the previous version of Reminders did an adequate if unimpressive job of managing Exchange tasks. iOS7 is hopeless. Problems I've encountered:

1. After searching for a reminder and finding the relevant record, tapping on the reminder or swiping it from right to left doesn't open it as one would expect. Instead, the entire Reminder list is displayed in a seemingly random order - not chronological, not alphabetical.

2. Reminders can't be opened from the pull-down screen showing today's calendar and tasks. Tapping on a reminder here has the same effect as the above (launching a list of all Reminders in random order), which is useless.

The only way I've found to use the Reminders function in iOS7 is to open the app, tap the header bar so that the clock icon appears, then tap on the clock to see Reminders sorted by due date. Reminders can be opened from this screen by swiping from right to left, but you'd better hope you have a short list of reminders or the one you are looking for is at the top of the list because you'll never find it otherwise. I have over 800 Tasks in Exchange, so until Apple fixes the Reminders app bugs, iOS7 is a huge disappointment.

Totally agree. What were they thinking? I always used the Today view and the calendar and now they've made the date/time system meaningless, not to mention all the other bugs. I switched from a third party app to Reminders because of its simplicity and ease of use. This version is a poor design and feels like its in alpha stage to boot.

I have a different Reminder bug.

I use the notes field in various apps to hold large amounts of text, screenfuls of text, about as much as in the original post, above. Now, I can not edit text near the top of my notes.

Click down near the middle of a Note containing large amounts of text, so that you would have to scroll a few screens full to get to the bottom. On my iPhone 4S, the cursor scrolls off screen! A Select-Paste menu appears for the off-screen text and I can not scroll up to it. If I type, I can not see what I enter, it stays off screen!

BTW, as a dev, I think I know the source of the bug! It seems to be the vertical distance of the other fields above the text (about one screen's worth). When clicking down to mark the cursor point, the cursor position is calculated from the top of the whole reminder. When entering edit mode, this value is used for the cursor position in the notes field. The offset due to other fields may not be factored out.

On the other hand, fixing this does not solve the can't scroll while editing problem.

(Could you -Apple- use a hand in fixing this? )

I have the same issue! This is a big problem. I use Tasks and the Notes section the same way. As my running To Do list. But I can't get to the top of the list to edit it!

Problem 2. This is more of an inconvenience. The previous version of Tasks allowed you to select and edit the Notes section with one click. Now it requires two clicks. Which is annoying.

Tasks are no longer usable for me, and this is a huge part of the value of the IOS for me.

Apple: Please fix these two issues.

I am having this same issue and am SHOCKED at the bugginess of ios 7 reminders when used with Exchange.

I am a power Outlook user and the only thing that kept me using the iPhone after all these years was the seamless compatibility with Outlook/Exchange Tasks.

When I create a new reminder in the app, it often overwrites the last reminder, creates a duplicate in title and keeping the parameters of the last reminder on the list. This is a disaster!!! I am losing reminders, all of which could be critical to the running of my business and personal life.

I am also unable to create new lists at all, i.e. when I click on the "+" button, I am not able to tap on "New List," when I do so it simply returns me to the list of tasks.

Also the fact that I have to scroll to the bottom of my list of tasks to add a new one ... what???? I have hundreds of tasks as well, this is completely ridiculous.

One of the things I loved about ios 6 was how easy and quick the reminders app was, I use it all day and with the old version I could very quickly open, create a new task, and save. With the ios 7 version all of this efficiency and ease of use is gone.

In my opinion, ios 7 reminders is completely useless to business/Exchange users right now. I am HUGELY dissapointed and must find a third party app or am even considering switching to Android if this is not resolved.

C'mon Apple!!

I totally agree with a few others here. I was so impressed with ios 6.X. While some of the UI enhancements they made via ios7 look attractive, and easy on the eye, the OS has become quite slow. I am regretting the upgrade on my iPhone 4. Agreed that the new version usually may not be ideal for the old hardware, but even the Apps have been quite erratic in their performance. The new reminders app is both, confusing and completely missing the old clean and intuitive flow. How do I get to view the reminders for a whole month. For example, how do I view future reminders? In ios 6, there was a full monthly view towards the bottom of the screen. The calendar app also is not as good as its predecessor, I opine. I seriously hope someone at Apple is listening!!

Your post is exactly the issue I have so no need for me to repeat. Very disappointed with the app in iOS7. I first had the issue on my iphone 5 and now the 5S over icloud.

And I tried using the "reminders" tab instead of the "Scheduled" tab but the Reminders tab is just a long list and is not in chonological order, or any logical order for that matter.

Oct 1, 2013 11:09 AM in response to Corms79

To expand on my point further I'll point out these specific things

  1. App crashes intermittently, often times when trying to A) create a new task; B) mark an existing task as complete
  2. Marking an existing task complete is inconsistent: sometimes I mark one task complete, only to find it has marked a different task complete. Makes things very confusing.
  3. Slow performance - when marking a task complete, often takes 4-5 seconds for it to "refresh" - which someitmes make me accidentally mark another task complete

Note: I am running iOS 7 on a 32GB iPhone 5

Also this may be for another topic, but I'm generally dissapointed with the new interface. Especially the "Scheduled" view - why can you only add new tasks under today's date heading? Then I have to go manually change the date. Wish I could add new tasks to tomorrow, next week, etc.

Oct 2, 2013 2:19 PM in response to yip4yaks

Same problem for me and it is driving me nuts!!! I keep losing my recurring reminders because whenever I create a new one time reminder, it over-rights whatever recurring reminder I have setup for today!!!

Apple please fix this bug ASAP! Makes me want to throw my phone against a wall.
