Mother in law auto updated to 7.1.1 on her iPad2, back camera no longer works, front camera freezes...

This is obviously a software / firmware update issue, apple needs to step up and push a patch, or replace out of warranty iPads (if the firmware can't be patched).

She went to the Genius Bar, who conducted a reset, then said that there was nothing more that they can do.

I've been an apply customer since the late 80's, never in my life have I seen such lack of regard for customers from this company.

Consider this customer (and my extended family) lost - Nice work, geniuses

I had the same problem after upgade to IOS7.1.1. Don't use the camera feature to often so did not realise had problem for sometime. Took my Ipad to nearest store, they did 2 resets back to factory spec, no good did not rectify problem. As my Ipad only 18 months old but purchased in USA so out of warrenty by 6 months advised to telephone Applecare by store technician. Gave them a call and explained the situation and they agreed to replace free of charge. Replacement working fine but have not done update to 7.1.1 yet. Thank you Apple.

Hi sharonfromqld really sorry to hear you have been affected by this upgrade. My ipad 4 was bought in USA November 2012 so not covered under EU regulations, out of warrenty by 6 months. Technician at Apple store in Glasgow advised I should call Applecare "they may be able to help". He gave me the number to call. Tel. 0800 048 0408. Hope this helps and best of luck with Apple. magpie121

iPad 2,1 (64GB wifi only)
Current OS is 7.1.2
Rear facing Camera worked with 7.1.1 and all previous iOS versions used on it.

Have tried Restore iPad in iTunes, multiple restarts with various combinations of sleep and home buttons. It appears that some aspect of flashing the firmware has caused the camera to fail. The unit, itself, has lived almost its entire service life within a LifeProof case, so I am quite certain the camera failure was not due to shock or immersion. Front facing camera works fine in PhotoBooth; but switching to rear facing causes PhotoBooth to lock up. I have also tried deleting every installed camera app (no joy) as well as reset to defaults (multiple times and no joy). I am presently pulling down the current iOS 8 beta in order to see if it has any effect, and will report back once that is in place.
