iOS 7 USB Vehicle Loses last played location

I plug my phone into my vehicle via USB plug. I can control my iPhone using my vehicle controls. Previous to iOS7 I would turn my car off and when I started it back up it started playing the music from where I left off. After the update to iOS7 it doesn't remember where I last was and starts back at the first song "alphabetically" in my music library.

For example. I start a playlist and when I unplug and plug back in, it doesn't remember that I was 3 songs into my playlist and starts with the first song in my entire library. This is frustrating because every time I start my car I have to select the playlist I want to play all over again. Previous to iOS7, it knew I was playing a playlist and it stayed in my playlist and started off exactly where I left off (in the middle of a song if that is where I was).

I am aggravated, and the only solution I can come up with is to delete all my playlists and delete all songs from my phone and only put the songs on my phone that I want to play. This really isn't a good solution because it will still start over on the same song every time I start the car.

We had an update this morning to fix the bug for bypassing lock screen, and I was hoping there would be a bug fix for this very annoying inconvenience as well but there wasn't. I have not seen anyone else complaining about this.

I called GMC and I was all but laughed at. Apple made a change and suddenly the vehicle manufacture has to fix it? Apple said it's not compatible? Well it plays just fine, everything works. It's the iOS that loses it's place and forgets where I left off. It has nothing to do with the compatibility of my car.

For example, If I am playing a song on my phone (while plugged into my car) and then unplug my phone and click Now Playing, there is nothing there because my phone lost it's place. According to my phone I was not playing anything at all, but I was.

How is this my vehicle?

I didn't say it was the car's fault, just suggesting a different interpretation of the response from Apple Support, one that didn't involve you spending a pile of money.

We know Apple changed something, but without looking at the code and the definition of the relevant Bluetooth profile we can't say whether their new code might itself be faulty or might have triggered a fault in the car's code.

Sorry for the USB/Bluetooth blooper. I presume there must be a protocol definition somewhere, because cars present a much wider range of control and display opportunities than the typical USB "speaker" device. I don't know how responsibility is divided between the parties.

I'm not a developer any longer, but I recognize what you mean about compatability. However, if all you do is use the same portions of the same interface in the same way, you may never move forward. When there are multiple possible partners (car audio/control systems), and you may not be able to test with all of them, the best you can do is program to the standard, hope that your partners did also, test a range of partners for compatibility, and maybe pander to some of their foibles. If one side or the other misses compensating for some of the foibles, we get into finger-pointing like you saw between Apple and GMC.

i have a chevy malibu with the USB connection. same problem; very frustrating.

sadly it was working great in iOS 6.1.3; now i'm constantly losing my spot in playlists.

when i don't notice the exact song i left off at, i am having to use the app SmartPlaylist to find my last played song and then manually restart my playlist where I was.

i have noticed that it doesn't happen all the time when plugging into the car, try starting playback before plugging in the cable.

i plan on submitting a bug report on the apple feedback page.

i have also been finding the Music app randomly loses my spot in the playlist when I am switching between other apps, especially apps that have audio content - streaming radio stations, videos, etc.

I had this problem with the previous OS but with version 7 its worse, before it would play back from the firt song it started. Now with the new OS its not even stayin in the playlist, and to make it worse the cell is locked, ucant double press the button to start the player, Always having to slide up is very annoying!

AND i do NOT use a USB i use AUX thru the head phone jack!!!

This is a BUG in the OS. My old ipod touch dont have this issue on and older OS using the same AUX cable.

Compability issues, I dont think so.

HOPE apple fixes this! And brings back the player on its own on the lock screen i hate the swipe up to get to it, esp in my car when driving then u realize its not in the playlist anymore what a pain in the $&@&

I haven't noticed any problems when just listening with headphones, just when using USB. For that matter, Bluetooth has also been working fine *except* if I have my iPhone plugged into the car stereo to charge. That is, even if I'm in Bluetooth mode on the stereo, if I'm also plugged in via USB the position is lost every time I get in the car.

FWIW, sometimes the iPhone will start playing the first song in my Songs list, while other times it will play seemingly random songs.

This was never an issue prior to upgrading to iOS 7.

I've had the same problems recently with my iPhone 5 and a newly purchased Sony car stereo, random interruptions during USB playback, completely fine before IOS 7.

It seemed to happen in certain locations on my journey into work & after a couple of days I noticed that "IPD" appeared on the stereo display briefly when the music stopped.

I assumed it was trying to connect to something & remembered from the keynote speach that with IOS 7, certain actions would occur while the phone is being charged & has Wi-Fi!

I've since turned the Wi-Fi off while driving and no problems since.

I hope this helps!

I am also very ill with the fact that apple cannot come up with a way to correct this issue. Not only will it lose its place but it freezes 10 seconds after playing my library. I have a brand new Chevrolet and I also work within a General motors dealership this is something that apple has created and need to correct because trust me we are not the only people running into this issue. In my eyes, Apple would be very smart as to correct this. If not expect a decline in sales due to the fact that this is something not only gm but all car manufactures are putting on their vehicles as an option. The news will spread that apple is not compatible. Bottom line if apple will not make a software update to correct this issue there are other options for us as consumers. They're many devices that have the capability to listen and enjoy music with streaming audio it doesn't have to be APPLE!! 😠
