iOS 7 USB Vehicle Loses last played location

I plug my phone into my vehicle via USB plug. I can control my iPhone using my vehicle controls. Previous to iOS7 I would turn my car off and when I started it back up it started playing the music from where I left off. After the update to iOS7 it doesn't remember where I last was and starts back at the first song "alphabetically" in my music library.

For example. I start a playlist and when I unplug and plug back in, it doesn't remember that I was 3 songs into my playlist and starts with the first song in my entire library. This is frustrating because every time I start my car I have to select the playlist I want to play all over again. Previous to iOS7, it knew I was playing a playlist and it stayed in my playlist and started off exactly where I left off (in the middle of a song if that is where I was).

I am aggravated, and the only solution I can come up with is to delete all my playlists and delete all songs from my phone and only put the songs on my phone that I want to play. This really isn't a good solution because it will still start over on the same song every time I start the car.

We had an update this morning to fix the bug for bypassing lock screen, and I was hoping there would be a bug fix for this very annoying inconvenience as well but there wasn't. I have not seen anyone else complaining about this.

Yep, this not only happen when USB devices is connected.. It can also happen anytime. Like you said, that's the music app the problem. It forgot the position where it was left because they remove the option or maybe a error in the code in iOS..

Sometimes, I'm saying the new control center could be the problem... It may have a bug somewhere than the app and the control center fight between each other..

It appears there may be (or have been) two similar, but not necessarily related, issues:

1) Plugging or unplugging via USB could (would?) clear whatever was in Now Playing in the Music app, causing the first song in your library to start playing. This was an issue in some cases (playing from Artist view) but not others (playing a playlist). Since 7.1 this hasn't been an issue for me.

2) When playing audio/video in another app (I've verified with Safari and Chrome; not sure about others), that app never gets cleared out of the global player, even after it is done playing and/or the app is closed. For an example, if you play a YouTube video in Chrome, then close the page and quit Chrome, "Chrome" is still displayed in the global player in the Control Center. Hitting play there won't do anything. However, it seems that when you plug in via USB, it really wants to start playing *something*, so it starts playing the start of your library. What's interesting, though, is that until you do so, Now Playing in the Music app isn't affected. That is, while the Control Center will just say "Chrome", Now Playing in the music app will show whatever had been playing before, and if you press play there before plugging in again via USB, playback will resume where it should. It seems like in theory this could affect playback other than USB, but so far, in my experience, trying to play via Bluetooth or hitting play (either in the Control Center or via the headphone remote) doesn't result in anything happening. That is, playback doesn't actually start.

Here are the situations I've observed:

1) I've never had the USB-induced issue, so I'll take lukpac's word on this one.

2) When I pull up the control center and there is an app other than "Music" listed, then when I try to play audio in my car, nothing starts to play. Either that, or the app that is listed will begin to play audio, if it still can. For example, I may have played a video in Safari, so Safari is listed, but it will remain silent if I've closed the window that had the video. This does not trigger the problem this thread is describing for me. Nor is this new - all my iPhones have behaved this way since my first-gen model. They didn't have a control center, of course, but if I'd been playing YouTube videos, for example, then I had to manually go start playing music again from the iTunes/Music app, at which point it remembered where it left off.

3) THIS is the problem that continues to drive me nuts in 7.1.1: Control Center does not list a particular track, but DOES list "Music" as the active audio app. If the phone is in this state, I can open the Music app and go to Now Playing, and it will be at the right track, but probably at the start of it. It does not remember its place. But if I try to press play from the control center, or via bluetooth, then the app completely resets and begins playing my entire library, not even limited to the playlist I had selected before, much less remembering the track.

The weird part is, there's no repeatable way to get myself into situation #3, or to avoid getting there. I've opened simple apps that have no audio or video and sometimes that will make the control center forget the track and simply show "Music" as the active audio (having checked both before and after opening the app), and other times the same app will not trigger that. Other times, I've had it happen without using the phone at all. It's literally been in my pocket for 6 hours, untouched, and still ended up in that state.

My best guess at this point is it has something to do with the Music app not properly handling some aspect of power management or multitasking, but that's just an educated guess. I've never found a way to work around this annoying glitch, even force-quitting all running apps to ensure that it isn't a multitasking issue with a third-party app. All I've been able to do is to check if there is actually a track listed before I try to play audio, and if not, then manually go into the Music app and go to Now Playing, and press play from there. That does avoid it every time, but what a hassle...

I figured out the issue: i was in the gym and disconnected my phone but when i went back to my car and connected, the last song i played was playing again..surprise!!! When your phone connects USB it ignores any play list you put together, but if its a smart playlist, it will go to the song you last played in that list. So for instance, if you create a smart playlist of an artist or have your purchases automatically set in your phone, those playlist will allow for last played song as opposed to a playlist that you create in iTunes or by your phone. I know it doesn't help the issue that iOS7 disregards the use of iTunes with all your songs, but if you notice they took out that option in settings under music, that allowed you to select 'resume last played' or something like that.

I also have this issue with iOS 8.1 and an iPhone 6 Plus. I have a main smart playlist that includes all songs except for Christmas and comedy which contains about 2600 songs. I mostly just plug this into the usb port on my radio in the car and hit random and go. What happens is that as soon as the song gets past song 30 of 2600 per say or later when I shut the car off my playlist will reset back to song 1 which since its on random wont always be the same song but I begin to hear songs that I have recently played. I notice this will happen when I open the music app and its not on the now playing screen from what it was last playing but instead will be on the all songs view. When I see that i know that upon disconnect or shutdown of the car it will reset back to 1 of 2600. This is getting quite annoying to say the least. When I plug it in it will resume play from what I was last listening to but it will reset when unplugged. Even hitting next track keeps it going 60, 61, 62 of 2600 but unplug it and bam back to 1 of 2600.

SO I know this is old post but I needed to put my 2 cents in. When I plug in my new iPhone 7+ to my radio all of the sudden a Christmas radio station starts playing, with no music app open. When I open the music app it doesn't show anyt play and Christmas station is no where on my radio listings. Also I can't use the radio buttons to advance to next or go back to other things or else it automatically starts play Christmas music again. I've had this radio for 3 years and never had this issue until I updated my iPhone 6s+ to iOS 10, and I thought it was a fluke. But then I got the iPhone 7+ and it still happens! This just seems really weird to me so please let me know if you know what this is.

THank you
