iOS 7 USB Vehicle Loses last played location

I plug my phone into my vehicle via USB plug. I can control my iPhone using my vehicle controls. Previous to iOS7 I would turn my car off and when I started it back up it started playing the music from where I left off. After the update to iOS7 it doesn't remember where I last was and starts back at the first song "alphabetically" in my music library.

For example. I start a playlist and when I unplug and plug back in, it doesn't remember that I was 3 songs into my playlist and starts with the first song in my entire library. This is frustrating because every time I start my car I have to select the playlist I want to play all over again. Previous to iOS7, it knew I was playing a playlist and it stayed in my playlist and started off exactly where I left off (in the middle of a song if that is where I was).

I am aggravated, and the only solution I can come up with is to delete all my playlists and delete all songs from my phone and only put the songs on my phone that I want to play. This really isn't a good solution because it will still start over on the same song every time I start the car.

We had an update this morning to fix the bug for bypassing lock screen, and I was hoping there would be a bug fix for this very annoying inconvenience as well but there wasn't. I have not seen anyone else complaining about this.

Update on my "Show All Music" settings fix from a week ago - Glad it worked for someone else too. It has mostly worked for me. Twice however the problem briefly returned (lost last played postion and started first song in library after plugging into my car via USB) and went away again as soon as I restarted my playlist. I'm not sure what causes it, but it's not what Darth_Maul said as I have been able to switch applications, at least some anyway. I just ran some quick tests in my car with Mail, Calendar and Solitaire after seeing his reply with no problem. Perhaps for me it's only a certain application or combination of events that causes the return. Hopefully 7.1 will finally fix it if Apple stops worrying about making their apps look pretty and starts fixing the problems. Last week AppleInsider said the first beta was out to developers.

In case it matters, I'm using an iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.4 syncing with iTunes 11.1.3.

So, things had been working fine for me, but the other day I rebooted my phone and I started having problems again. As with before, playlists worked fine, but playing from the Artist view resulted in Now Playing resetting when plugging and unplugging. I normally keep repeat turned on, and for some reason thought I would try turning that off and back on. And now it works again.

So, it looks like there are still bugs, but turning repeat off and on may be something to try.

I have this exact problem too, except over bluetooth.. I have some additional troubles though.. When I start my car again, I can have one of three scenarios.. ( I have iTunes Match)

  1. My phone will either start playing my previously selected playlist, from the beginning, alphabetically, excactly as described.
  2. Nothing starts playing. I have to open iTunes and select a song or radio station all over again.
  3. MOST Annoying. upon reconnecting with bluetooth, a random song will play. When I get the random playing song it will be a song with is NOT currently downloaded on my phone. It 'might' be a song that I have in my iTunes Match collection and be streaming, or it might be something playing from a random radio station (I haven't figured out yet if all of the songs are something from my own collection or not.

The third is most annoying because it's not any choice of my own. It never plays from one of my created playlists, and not from any of my favorite stations. I do have some music that I own that I don't like much and listen to once in a blue moon. This is why I have iTunes match and do not have the songs downloaded on my iphone taking up space.

I've had similar problems. Before iOS 7, my iPhone worked really well (apart from automatically choosing and playing the first album/song upon plugging in USB...I'm getting really sick of the opening riffs of Black Cow from Steely Dan's Aja!) but since the iOS update, audio in music, podcasts, or anything else will cut out randomly when driving in certain areas. The playback continues, so I lose what was playing, sometimes as much as five or six seconds of audio, so I lose punchlines or lines of dialogue in podcasts. Once I unplug the iPhone 5, it loses its "Now Playing" and anytime I take a Bluetooth phone call (I have a Sony MEX-BT3100P) the music playing will reset upon hanging up and start again with Aja.

Podcasts are better, remembering my spot and playing properly when I plug in the USB connection. I imagine this is because they run in a separate app. But once a podcast ends, instead of moving on to the next one, it starts playing the Aja album again.

I won't use Bluetooth audio. It's pointless in the car. If I can charge my phone and get better audio quality by using USB, I'm going to choose that 100% of the time. I only use the Bluetooth for phone calls.

I have the most recent iPod nano and this has never happened with it. It doesn't cut out audio, doesn't lose its place upon unplugging, and doesn't force me to listen to Abbey Road every time I plug it in. I'm going to try turning off WiFi on my iPhone when driving and see if that fixes it. Resetting the settings on my phone seemed to slightly modify what was going on, but the problems persist. It keeps me from ever wanting to play music from my phone, but I don't always have my iPod on me so it gets really annoying.

This is not your car the problem but the iOS 7...

I have the same problem with my Honda Civic 2012. Each time I turn off ignition it restart from the beginning. Factory reset or anything will fix not the problem...

Remember in iOS 6 and down, when you go to Setting, music, you had an option to save the state and the position of the song. Apple remove this option in iOS 7 so that's why each time to cut the power or remove the key, it always restart from the beginning and also restart to the first song.. If you still had a device on iOS 6 and down, go to Settings Music and you can see an option to enable, last played or save position. My device is in French so I don't know how is in English.

I don't know why Apple remove this option. That's totally ridiculous..

If you go to Setting Video, you can see the option "Last played" Apple remove this on music options..

Hope Apple bring back the option. That's totally annoying!!!

Its not just happening with the USB i get that issue when playing music on my head phone, i also get it when playing music right out of the speakers at the bottom, with no headphone. The option the previous user said is the only thing by far that makes sense!

I have also many friends with the same issue and they too have it with anything to do with playing music on the phone.

What you dont genis the usb issue is not just a usb issue! This thread is to share the issue that started with usb but obviously its more than that! Let ppl share all the issues around it, thats the only way to eliminate tue cause. Clearly if its just usb for u than u are a rare one cos most of us here realized that not only its a usb problem but an issue with the music app altogether. End of story, if u dont like it well its no ones fault on here.
