Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. IPod 4th gen cannot install iOS7, since it does not have the technical capability to handle iOS 7. That's why you're getting the "your software is up to date" message.

ok so I can understand the 'Ipod 4th gen doesn't have the Ram to handle' ordeal but I was wondering... Can I have the 2000th generation please?

I know if I buy the new generation (5th gen or soon to be 6th gen don't really know when that comes out) The next generation is going to be released and then it'll be the same problem with the gurrent generation.

(confused?)

The biggest problem for me is that I can't get the apps i want because I can't update, so I think they definatly need to make a different version of iOS 7 for Ipod touch fourth gen. These apps aren't just games but also the podcast app and other of the same sort of apps, or perhaps make a special app store which only has apps for the latest iOs 6 and lower.

Anyone thinking that it is stupid and dumb that iPod 4 cant get iOS7 must think about the real world before getting angry. 1) Your iPod cannot handle it because it is old and when you bought it you must realize that it will go out of date. (No company can fix this issue, it will happen to android too). 2) There are toned down versions of iOS7 for other old devices like the iPhone 4 that don't have all the features and so apple cannot tone it down much more for the iPod 4. 3) It is not apples fault that some apps are unavailable for iOS6, talk to the developers about that if you find it an issue.

I Find your comment not only ridiculous, as other users have, but also hilarious. It is ridiculous the simple fact that an old device is not as powerful as a new one causes you to become infuriated, and it is hilarious you think switching to android will make a difference for the better. In truth, android is much worse when it comes to software updates. The number of android users with the latest software is tiny, especially compared with apple. In addition to the ridiculousness and invalidity of your statement, a support forum is not the place to voice your petty rage. If you were so concerned with getting the latest software, maybe you should have researched the software available for the iPod touch 4th generation.

For those that say it will happen if you buy an Android, I can assure you it will not! I have a Galaxy S3. They now have atleast 3 or 4 newer versions of this phone. I receive and am able to download EVERY update that comes out. I dare say if it were an IPhone, my luck would not be the same. I understand if I don't have enough memory available to download an update, but to flat out refuse loyal customers updates unless they buy the latest edition is just bad customer relations. I know have a IPad & 3 iPods that Apple has decided my loyalty & money wasn't worth.

IOS 7 is available for iPhone 4 and newer. iPhone 4 was released in 2010. Galaxy s3 was released 2012. I daresay your luck would be the same. Ios 7 is available on all iPads but the first generation and all iPad minis. The iPod touch is an unfortunate case of lack of device support. However, it does not give cause to vilify Apple or claim that lack of support is common to all their devices. In addition, the latest model of the Galaxy series is the Galaxy s5, released just two months ago. There are not "at least 3 or 4 newer versions of this phone."

I know, my Apple II can't run Photoshop. How dare they! Do you folks even understand how software and hardware work? And that some hardware just can't handle the newer software? Mindboggling. No wonder PC/Android users make fun of Apple users.

I fully accept that technology is always moving forward, but my complaint is that I bought my iPod about a month before the 5th gen came out

I actually purchased it in an Apple store and asked if it was worth waiting for the new version, but was told the 4th gen would do everything that I wanted

It's too old - yes I realised it would go out of date, but not after such a short time.

I’ve read the comments about Windows, well XP came out in 2001, was replaced by W7 in 2009 but support continued for 5 years. With Apple its only 18 months since my purchase

The issue is memory – so maybe a memory upgrade could be offered for the device (don't mind paying), I'm sure a replacement SIM would be the same physical size due to technology advances. But I doubt Apple are interested - after all I should buy a new iPod (perhaps to throw away after 2 years)

I'm not that bothered about the IOS7 features, but each month more of my apps become unusable as the need IOS7, this may be due to the app designer but Apple have created the issue

Change to a 5th gen? OK, but I then need adaptors for all my accessories (will Apple supply free?). And on my BOSE it will stick up above the top

I was given an iPod Touch 4th gen. Since then I have tried to make it useful with no success.

1. Wanted to mount a USB flash drive so that I can review pictures in the field. (Apple has removed this possibility with the latest updates).

2. Wanted to run mlb at bat on it. (Requires iOS 7 which Apple will not port to the 4th gen iPod.

3. Wanted to run Siri but Apple has removed that capability.

Luckily, I can accomplish everything using Android. I've got a Razr Maxx which has "Google Now", mlb at bat and can mount usb drives.

So the iPod is in my gym bag and I use it as an mp3 player.

And to top off the silliness, I have been logged off of the support pages while trying to post this message.

Guys.. don't get all mad because your iPod can't get iOS 7! I mean sure, you can be disappointed, and I completely understand that. But think about it, they can't push an OS onto something that can't run it. And even if they released iOS 7 for your iPod 4, do you know 1. how many features they'd have to take out and 2. how laggy it would be? Fact is, the hardware in the iPod 4 simply can't run iOS 7. It was made what, 3-4 years ago? The iPhone 4 can barely run iOS 7 as it is. If you really want iOS 7 so badly, sell your iPod 4 and go grab an iPod 5. (It's not worth it in my opinion. I like iOS 6.)
