In iOS 7, Safari crashes often, especially with YouTube videos

Since iOS 7 upgrade, Safari crashes on a regular basis. I notice this especially when going to a page with embedded YouTube videos. Sometimes it happens just by going to the page, and if not then almost always when trying to play the video. I have tried rebooting, resetting, turning off iCloud, etc., all to no avail. I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad 2, and this problem occurs on both.

P.S. I updated to iOS 7.0.2, and this problem, which was happening before, still happens.

Thanks, but I'm not talking about the YouTube app. I'm talking about Safari, the browser. Safari itself crashes, especially on web pages containing YouTube videos, and especially if you try to play said videos (i.e., hit the play button on an embedded video).

The YouTube app itself does crash somewhat frequently too (I have the most up-to-date version installed), but this post is directed at Apple and it's own Safari browser.

Am I really the only person having this problem? I find that hard to believe since it's happening on two different devices. I came here mainly to try and make Apple aware that this needs fixing. (I have not been able to find any other way of communicating such problems to Apple. If is way exists, that would be nice to know also.) I'm pretty sure this is a bug in need of fixing by an Apple update, rather than something that can be fixed by tweaking a setting or something.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. Safari is crashing on a regular basis when I am browsing and visiting pages with embedded you tube video. As long as you select the play button on the video window Safari is freezing and after ~2 or 3 seconds crashes and close.

Eg. Visit www.newsbeast.gr which is a Greek news portal and hit a theme with embedded video. It is very easy to reproduce.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi,

My problem is related: i have to click red and then grey play button three times before embedded youtube video plays - unbelieavable. Two plugins i ve been playing youtube videos with are not working now - worked like a dream before ios 7. Now i m bewildered: should i stop playing youtube videos on my site or wait for some apple bug fix...such a pain!

Yes - this happens on Safari and Chrome on my ipad mini - noticed it mostly with Guardian pages (which probably have youtube videos embedded - I'll keep my eye on this). No question - before ios 7, never had a browser crash ever - now it's two or three times per session, together with a kind of sticky-jumpiness when scrolling the pages. Answers welcome. Though let's be honest - we're just waiting for a bug update.

I have an iPad mini. Sorry, I don't know what version. I got it last Xmas. Ever since I downloaded IO7 I am having the hardest time watching videos on YouTube. They won't load. Doesn't matter if I access YouTube through the app, through a link on Safari, or a link in Facebook (which might be considered accessing it through safari). Dang videos just won't load. I have to back out of them, then try again. Then again. If I just sit and wait often they won't load at all. Driving me crazy. The lag makes my mini unusable for YouTube.

I have the exact same problem .... Particularly with the guardian website! I have tried turning off I cloud sync - resetting - and so on. To no avail. I like the new userface but this crashing whilst reading comments especially is so frustrating .... and it is so "laggy" too.

My iPad was perfect before this. Has anyone got a solution????????????

Exactly the same problem here (iPad 2, 64g).

Tried it all, shutting down all background apps, restore, you name it.

I believe it is a YouTube app problem.....I installed Jasmine to watch YouTube videos now (you need to favourite them in your YouTube account to access them easily). Absolutely no problem watching them using the Jasmine app. No video crashes (on YouTube, anything longer than 5 minutes would crash).

Other than that, it is very frustrating having it constantly crash. Hopefully this is fixed soon.
