iPhone 5s 'This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably...' help?

What is happening here?

I keep getting this stupid message even when no charger is plugged in!

I'm using the official charger that came with the iphone 5s box. I have other lightning connectors and thought maybe switching them would fix it but it hasn't.

Is there something wrong with my 5s? Do I need to clean the port on the bottom of the phone? I've only had the 5s for about a week. I am using official apple chargers.

This started happening after my batter drained and I put the phone on charge. Is it a software bug?

Any help would be appreciated.

P.s. The message ONLY appears when it is not on charge. Which is studpily weird.

Well said. Completely agree.

Apple's small mindedness has just lost me as a loyal user and investor. I recommended Apple products to many people in the past for "it makes our life simpler". Now everything becomes so complicated. They have different connectors for close versions of iMac, iPhones, iPad - and different ones for iPhones and iPads. These are just connectors, many people needs a few for office, home, car, other stations we may need. It's obscene to force people to by them all for $39 each at Apple. When asked why they like to make things so complicated and not backward compatible within its own brand, Apple's representative say "so that you will always get the latest and best". This is just an insult to people's intelegence and right of choices. This is a manifesto of Apple's greed.

Apple's connectors are doing a much better job to use standard accessories. I now can see how Apple will be brough down to its knees by its own greed and arrogance. I'm selling my shares tomorrow.

Sounds like the same thing that's happened to me. That's what is going to make me go to a product like a Samsung, where open sources is the name of the game. It is a very nasty move to block charging cords. I wonder if it is illegal, or protectionist.

Sorry to hear that Love Shawn, I am experiencing the same thing, and I too am a very unhappy Apple customere.

None of the above things actually work to stop this stupid pop up from coming up again and again and again and again. This is bogus!! At least I can still charge my phone with 3rd party yet even with my original cables I use at work and at home and even WHEN I DONT HAVE ANYTHING PLUGGED IN I will still get the ERROR MESSAGE....I do use a 3rd party cord that I use in my car every once in a while. I think apple needs to update software and make the FIX PLEASE!!!!

Seriously? So the fact that peopel that aren't using 3rd party cords and are still getting the message, or people are using 3rd party chargers and are having no issues means nothing to you? That tells you that Apple is blocking cables that aren't genuine Apple products? Come on.. the very fact that you mention Samsung products 'where open source is the name of the game' on an Apple support forumn makes me doubt you even own and Apple product.

Oh and the protectionist part.. that was just funny. I needed a laugh this morning...

I have yet to see this error on my iPhone 5. My whole house has iPhone 5's and my roomates GF has the 5s all using 3rd party chargers some of the time without issue. Yet my friend at work keeps having the same message when no charger is plugged in, and she uses only Apple chargers...?? Not sure what to make of this. Maybe a good clean out is the way to go.

The original poster and content indicated the problem is this message shows up when NOTHING is even plugged in. That was my experience as well. I don't see a problem if apple is protecting its support by preventing $2 Chinese cr@p from being used. But this thread has nothing to do with that. I'm glad I was able to fix mine after discovering it was caused by the case. Hopefully others will figure there issue out.
