Require Passcode ios 7

How come the require passcode on my 5s iPhone only has the option of IMMEDIATELY. It will not let me change it to anything else. On my old phone, I could set the passcode to be good for 5 minutes or longer?

Am I missing something here?

OK...I found it. It took me a lot of searching.

If you use the touch ID, this is what Apple says about it:

Using Touch ID sets your Require Passcode setting to Immediately. You still have the option of entering your passcode simply by sliding to unlock.

I guess I should have searched a little more. Now I know and maybe this will help someone else.

Thank you Lawrence for your help.

I also had this problem. Here is how I got it working.

1. I deleted the passcode and fingerprints.

2. I powered down.

3. When It came back up, I activated my passcode and fingerprints again.

4. I selected 15 minutes for locking.

5. When turned it off and came back on, my auto-lock was now 5 minutes and has stayed that way.

6. Fingerprints and auto-lock both work fine.

Cool cool.

I guess I just don't understand why people are upset about it "immediately" requiring a passcode for everyone that's not them. I mean, if you're not having to type it in, who cares, huh? You just wish the phone didn't have to read your finger every time or that OTHERS wouldn't have to enter your passcode immediately?

I'm having trouble seeing the inconvenience.

Eh well, if my first comment wasn't helpful maybe this one will be:

It's Friday! Have a great weekend everyone!

I am a big apple fan and have purchased almost every product released from Apple tv's to each gen iphone & iPad and a new imac and MacBook Pro annually. This is my first complaint and I consider it major.

When your prompted to have your fingerprint read in the middle of a conference call to access other apps on your phone it's a problem.

Not sure why the passcode when using the fingerprint scan is only available as "immediate" opposed to 4-hour for actually keying in the passcode. Sometimes to end a call I even need to run a fingerprint scan to access the end call button. Hope they make a change soon so I can enable this feature again.

If you'd like to help please see if you can replicate the issue on your 5s and post the result.

I too was annoyed by this at first, but when you think about it, unlocking your phone with touch ID would be more confusing if it didn't require it every time. If you use touch ID the way apple designed it (by pressing the home button and leaving your finger there for a second), it is quicker than waking the phone with the sleep wake button and sliding to unlock. If you were able to set a time delay for touch ID, you would'nt know whether or not touch ID was working until you woke you phone, and by then you've wasted a second by trying to slide to unlock.

The problm with this is.

Using Touch ID sets your Require Passcode setting to Immediately. You still have the option of entering your passcode simply by sliding to unlock.

Note: Touch ID cannot be used for purchases if Require Password in Settings > General > Restrictions is set to Immediately.

so basically you can use Touch ID to unlock your phone. or buy stuff, but not both!!? *** Apple.

somoene should be fired over this...

Why would you set a RESTRICTION to Immediately? That is not the same as setting Passcode Lock to Immediately. Presumably if someone other than the regular user set a Restriction requiring a passcode immediately they had some purpose for doing it, and requiring a passcode for purchases is a reasonable extension. This would most likely be used by a corporate security profile where the business wants clear identification of who made the purchase.

If you just enable Touch ID and passcode lock and don't set a Restriction you can use Touch ID for both access and purchases.

This is a huge inconvenience for 5s users. If I turn my display off and then someone texts my 30 sec later I want to be able to swipe the text notification to unlock without trying to get the fingerprint scanner to work. I've just turned the fingerprint scanner off because of this odd restriction. I don't live in an area where someone would grab my phone out of my hands while it's on. I use the passcode lock in case I leave my phone somewhere and it gets swiped. I'm that case a 5-30 minute delay for passcode would protect me. Apple should allow users to set any passcode delay time they desire. Anywhere from immediately to daily would be much more reasonable.

@Apple

Please allow users the option to switch to 5 minutes for requiring fingerprint ID for unlocking the phone. Fingerprint scanning should not need to happen every time you open your phone in a 5 minute span.

The fingerprint reader often takes more than a couple attempts if your hands have moisture, there's oil/sweat on the sensor, your hands are prone to callouses, etc. If you're using your phone regularly in a short period of time, say a text message conversation, but you shut off the screen in between messages (don't know how long before your friend replies), it's very annoying to have to make multiple attempts to get into the phone. At the very simplest level, even if it works on the first attempt everytime, users should not have to wait for the fingerprint scan (1 second delay) if they'd prefer the convenience of a 5 minute grace period.

The benefit of the fingerprint was to add security, but to many of us, it was to avoid having to enter a complex passcode (letter, numbers, symbols - and having to switch between keyboards to do so)... which has not been replaced with press finger, try again, wipe button with shirt sleeve, wipe thumb on pants, scan finger, scan finger in slightly different orientation... and finally unlock... or sometimes so many failures you end up having to enter that ridiculous passcode again.

There should be room for the user to determine his or her own balance between security and convenience, and requiring immediate fingerprint detection is not necessary nor beneficial.

Thank you, many of us hope you consider implementing this change in the next software update.
