Require Passcode ios 7

How come the require passcode on my 5s iPhone only has the option of IMMEDIATELY. It will not let me change it to anything else. On my old phone, I could set the passcode to be good for 5 minutes or longer?

Am I missing something here?

@Apple

Please allow users the option to switch to 5 minutes for requiring fingerprint ID for unlocking the phone. Fingerprint scanning should not need to happen every time you open your phone in a 5 minute span.

The fingerprint reader often takes more than a couple attempts if your hands have moisture, there's oil/sweat on the sensor, your hands are prone to callouses, etc. If you're using your phone regularly in a short period of time, say a text message conversation, but you shut off the screen in between messages (don't know how long before your friend replies), it's very annoying to have to make multiple attempts to get into the phone. At the very simplest level, even if it works on the first attempt everytime, users should not have to wait for the fingerprint scan (1 second delay) if they'd prefer the convenience of a 5 minute grace period.

The benefit of the fingerprint was to add security, but to many of us, it was to avoid having to enter a complex passcode (letter, numbers, symbols - and having to switch between keyboards to do so)... which has not been replaced with press finger, try again, wipe button with shirt sleeve, wipe thumb on pants, scan finger, scan finger in slightly different orientation... and finally unlock... or sometimes so many failures you end up having to enter that ridiculous passcode again.

There should be room for the user to determine his or her own balance between security and convenience, and requiring immediate fingerprint detection is not necessary nor beneficial.

Thank you, many of us hope you consider implementing this change in the next software update.

Is it really so bad that some of us enjoy using these forums to engage in a shared complaint session? And given the technical knowledge level of the "Apple Geniuses" that I've met I'd be willing to bet that they read these forums.

This is a user-to-user technical assistance forum. When you agreed to the terms of use of this forum, you acknowledged that, and agreed to follow those rules.

So, yes, because this is not a forum for 'complaints', it really is 'bad' to break the rules of the forum.

Consider this; if you visited a friend that asked you to make sure that you wiped the dirt off the bottom of your shoes before entering, and even provided a 'Welcome' mat to do so, but you ignored that and tracked dirt into his house, is that polite behavior?

You are a guest in this 'house', as we all are. It is simply good manners to follow the rules of the house.
